Still A LOT of work to do, I got the basic mood of the artwork down (I realize the shadows are screwed up):

I trashed the other one, I knew it wasn't going to work.

OMFG....
Did you really make this???

No offence, but It looks kinda picture-ish photoshopped....
But it is amazing...

it is photoshopped.

I've been wondering when you were going to get back to work. Hope I wasn't too harsh about the other one. It is looking good, and I think that it would be good to start off with an image that has less details to work on (lighting/shadow - wise). Keep it up, can't wait to see more stuff!

Glad to see you're back to work! :tmb:

Hm the shadow of the table shouldn't be directly beneath the table, if you get what I mean. It's a gorgeous piece, if you had a face in the mirror, it'll be freaking creepy! :tmb: ;)

I knew that, but i was wondering if it was a photo, or if he/she made it with own hand....

Looks gorgeous so far. The atmosphere is warm yet spooky. Can't wait to see it finished. :tmb:

I think she takes other people's images and uses photoshop to manipulate the photos, and blend photos together. Many people think this isn't art and doesn't require skill. But it does require quite a lot of knowledge and can be just as tricky as drawing something by hand.

Anyway, great work. :tmb:

I am a he btw. :p

But yes, photo manipulation is EXTREMELY hard in my opinion.

Thank you for the warm compliments guys!

@rowanlim and spikejones, as aforementioned, I realize the shadows are not right, but thank you anyways. :jmp:

Oh and you weren't harsh spike, I like an honest opinion and critique, and I really appreciate that. :D

Anyways, here is another WIP, the lighting on the woman I haven't started yet (well a tiny tiny tiny bit), like the concept, the painting on the wall isn't finished, and a whole bunch of other stuff:

Oh boy that woman was hard AS HELL to crop out of her original background.

I'm awful at photo manipulation, and I think that you've shown us all how it should be done! Its and excellent piece, and I love the atmosphere: have you applied a filter or something to it? The "texture" it has is wonderful.

Tombcool
07-07-08, 02:57
@trigger_happy, the texture is something I made using pictures of various materials around my house, I overlay'd it at 40% with "Soft Light".

Thank you guys! Still a lot more work to go (about 30% done), I added the headless man, and just started the lighting:

Ok, well, I finally finished the lighting on the woman, it was a real pain, especially on the hair:

You're really getting good at this! She looks as though she were a part of the original background image:)

Amazing job, Tombcool, like Quasi said, she's becoming part of the whole picture :tmb: ;)

Thank you two! :D I really appreciate it, ok, so now I am almost done, so it would be really helpful to me if you gave me a brutal critique.

Here it is:

The only things I am worried about is the shadow of the table, and I don't know where the shadow of the dagger would be placed.

i don't want to sound like a slutbag when i tell you what to improve on, but here it goes:

- the candle to the right of the decapitated head doesn't seem to be affected as much by its flame, unlike the one on the left

- the shoulder of the dead man doesn't really have fluid lighting

- the lady's hands & arms look a bit manly

but overall, i think it's a wonderful piece of work :tmb:

Tombcool

No you don't sound like one! I really appreciate that you are helping me. Oh and edit your post, remember, swearing isn't allowed on the forum. Just to be safe. :)

Ok, I will fix the man's shoulder, thanks for letting me know!

About the woman's hands and arms, I don't think they look manly, it is just the lighting from behind and above her that reveals all her tendons/muscles/veins.

About the decapitated head, I was worried about the lighting for this one, because the light is coming from directly above his head on a small angle (it is on the ceiling). But I thought the candles would be too far to light the man's head. So I am quite confused as for what I am suppose to do, i'll see if I can go find more info on light on the net.

I just finished it! I removed the headless man as I thought it was too...unrealistic?

Here is the final version:
