Tomb Raider Underworld Manor - Do you want it to resemble the classic mansion from TR1/2/3, or the movie mansion from legend/TR:A?

Err even though I love the TR1/2/3 house, it would be weird if they just threw back the classic house after Croft Manor.
Ooo, if croft manor does get burnt down then we can have Lara's Home in TR9 :D
But either way I would choose Lara's Home :)
I like both but I prefer the classic Lara's Home. It would be nice if they updated that one but made it more 'home-y'.

But I don't think we'll have it in Underworld. That's CD's Tomb Raider.
I don't know.. I neither like nor hate the Crystal manor... I guess it's not an important issue for me.. I'll leave it to Crystal to decide :)

Hmm, i'd like a updated Classic manor. Keep it close to the original, whilst adding lots of new rooms and outdoor areas to keep it fresh and fun to play. :)

In TRU, if Lara's Legend Mansion gets burned downed. Then I would like her to go somwhere completely NEW! Maybe, the new mansion would look a little bit like the originals, but we should see her last one. Considering she has 3, Legend, original, and hopefully we'll get to see something brand new!

I voted for "Other... I'll explain my post". So I do. I think there should be both. First the old manor from the movie (and from TRL&TRA) should be destroyed in a mission by an enemy or a storm or something like that... and then later on in the game, Lara moves to new place... and that's then the manor of TR1,2 & 3. Would be nice that way.

I love the movie style mansion, but I'm not fond that in the poll it says "I love the movies", I love the manors style, but not cause it's from the movies. I want the same manor, but more homey feeling. Kitchen, Master bath, maybe even a cool wine cellar.
I'd like something new. But I love the classic manor too :)

i think the older ones suck, they don't have enough class or any of that sort of stuff. i prefer the lattest mansion. but i think that they need to add more stuff to it, and also make it harder to solve the puzzels in the mansion, because they were way to easy to solve.

I love the Manor in Legend and Anniversary, but I'm sure they can be improved upon. I'm not very fond of the movies, none of the options fit my opinion so, no. :wve:

personally, id like a legendy/anniversary style, with more exploration of the manor grounds, and id love to see the return of the assault course and assault course time trials. like in tomb raider2

I'd like something new because I'd like the series to progress (with major classic elements intact), unlike many people. ;)
Not sure about the bigger and better part (it could mean anything!), but I'd like the manor to return to its original purpose, a confy big manor where you just train (training course ruled) and relax with a couple of secret additions here and there. The manor in the last two games worked as a level, I don't like that.

i really didn't. i thought it was kind of ugly.
i much prefer the CD one.
so that's what i voted for.
and i doubt CD will bring back the old one.
I'd like the Legend manor, expanded of course, if only to serve for continuity.
I've always been curious what Lara's estranged relative's homes look like, maybe one of them is the classic... :p

takamotosan - I'm with you. I do not understand why so many folks defend the classic mansion with such fervor. I mean, the first one was boring, the second one was a little cooler but that treasure room was a huge disappointment, and the third one was fun, especially with the bike. But they really were not that remarkable.
And I don't understand the attachment to the bathroom and the kitchen in the original - People are constantly saying that Legend manor is smaller because of the lack thereof? What? The Legend manor is much larger, and I think it provides a lot more things to do than the classic one. I guess if you're into the bugs and fun glitches of the classics, then I could see the mansion being more entertaining, but as stand alone gameplay goes, the Legend manor is superior.
So yeah. Bring back the Legend manor or something like it, pending the possible manor burning. It's got nothing to do with liking the movies; I just thought it was a more thoughtful addition to the game (which really isn't a bash to the original one- the mansion and the manor both have different functions in their respective games).

I'm in the minority on this but i'd like to see something new. For example instead of a manor, Lara can have a training complex complete with a vehicle training course and even a waterway for her yacht. :)

I thought that the Legend/Anniversary manors were kind of dull or boring in a sense.... I'd absolutely KILL to have the classic manor, or something like it... the freezer, the obstacle course, etc.

I want the Legend manor to part of the storyline,with Lara waking up and realising that her home is on fire.We get to control Lara in her pyjama/night dress/panties while she searches for Z&A but she finds them dead and then we'll get Winston out of the house and be happy that Z&A are dead.Then we could move into a new house or on her yacht.:D
I like the modern mansion, but more places to explore would be the cat's meow.

I'd like a combination of all aspects from each tomb raider and the movies and more:
A larger outdoor section complete with maze, race course, firing range, obstacle course.
A more detailed and larger indoor mansion like in Legend and with a beautiful swimming pool, martial arts dojo for her melee combat training, bedroom. Didn't past tomb raider games have Lara's bathroom? that would be nice too. Garage for Vehicles to be used in the obstacle course outside. Gadget room to test out all of Lara's new toys or modify them.
I loved both...
The TRL/TRA Manor is more beautiful than the TR 1-3.
But therefor the classic style manor was bigger and more exiciting... so a combination would be perfekt! :jmp:

I voted for the current Mansion. I actually enjoy it a great deal more than the original, in terms of things to do inside. I think that as the games progress, more and more of the mansion will be revealed. CD probably does not want to show all the rooms at one time, otherwise, what would be left for future games. I would definitely like to see the kitchen, master bath, dining room, etc, be incorporated into current mansion. If we go by the movie, a bungee ballet sequence and car garage would be nice too.
My one complaint about the current mansion are the corridors connecting the main hall to the various rooms. While I think they are supposed to give the next room time to load to prevent game lag, they seem illogical to house design.
I'm a bit hesitant about having the house burned to the ground, just because I hate to see that kind of massive destruction to such a huge manor (even if it is a game). Besides, much of the house is stone, which wouldn't burn anyway.

I voted the classic manor. The 'movie' manor was boring in the way it was layed out, with a really dull outside area. The classic manor was great because you could enter pretty much every room, and the outside was brilliant. If it could be done so well on a PS1 why can't it be done better on the current-gen consoles?

i would prefer the TRL/TRA manor, but the only thing that makes me choose the classic one over this one is because of how the manor was built. every room in the mansion overlapped other rooms, and from the outside the manor looked nothing like how it looked from the inside. if CD could actually make the interior equal to what it looks like from the outside, then i wouldnt mind if we got the TRL/TRA manor back. :)
I like them both, anyway I have a preference for the Legend / Anniversary one. But if they could create the third one I'd be happy too. :)

Maybe the manor will burn down in the beginning of the game, and when you finish the game the new manor will be built and you can play it once you've finished.
I want that to happen, but make it more modern and cool

the only thing i found mildly entertaining about the classic manor was the freezer and the corner bug to the roof. other than that, i thought it was a waste of time. i hated the floorplan (but haha that's the interior designer/architect in me talking)
I'm with takamotosan and domina on this one. I always found the classic manors to be a lot of space, but not much do to really. While I certainly don't love the movies, I couldn't click that option either.
What I liked about Legend/TRA was that the manor was like a level that could be completed. I want them to keep that style. What exactly the manor looks like, I really don't care. As long as there's a lot to do. "Something new" is usually my prefered answer.
Legend/anni's mansion seemed a little boring. Wasnt much to play around with, just a half-assed attempt to make it playable.

I voted classic, but thinking about it, the main thing I want to see gone is the long, boring corridors (in CD's own words ;) ) that sprawl all over the new manor without providing anything of interest at all (although the books in TRA did help a little); the original manor is a lot more "snappy" in its design, and, while it does have corridors they're not between every room like in the new one.
So I don't really mind what manor we get (even this other, third one) as long as it cuts down on the filler corridors. Having the new manor burn down in the story and moving to the old one would be cool though, or even vice-versa (a homage to Home-sweet Home?).
Though I like the original design of Lara's Home, and the croft manor is kinda good, what I really want is a fresh start for the manors.
In legend it said that Lara had many homes, let's see the new one, make it more comprehensive, more beautifle, more instructive, add several puzzles, and LET US LOCK WINSTON IN THE FREEZER! :jmp:
I want the TR1-3 Mansion to return, it would great to see it return after about 8 or 10 years since we seen it, I don't like how they copy the TR movies Mansion that is not original at all.
I think they should stay with the current manor, extend it and make it better

I'd be happy with a manor which you could walk completely around, it's exterior & interior. The gardens, front of the manor including front gates & other rooms such as kitchen, bathroom etc... An outside assault course is a must, fingers crossed!:D

I believe that here on the forums, most of us use CD for Crystal Dynamics;).
I voted for something new - it should resemble a real manor with all of the rooms one would expect, we should be able to get lost due to the large multitude of rooms and areas to explore.
Winston should be interactive again (please lets be able to lock him in the fridge again for old times sake) as well as Zip and Alister if they are there too.
The mansion could have many interesting things we can do in it, like practice all our moves, have a multi-faceted puzzle or two to solve, some shooting would be nice, as well as taking a ride on the motorcycle. CD, go all out on the manor - make it epic - use the theme "how/where would Lara live" to help design it.
Put in all sorts of details, such as birds and squirels outside. Adding interactive objects may greatly enhance the replayability of the mansion - a few examples: vases and lamps should fall and break if Lara tumbles into them (this would give Winston something to clean up), a soccerball would be nice, imagine Lara kicking it into Zip's face, or throwing it into vases, or into the pool - something like this would add loads of replayability (for the levels there could be skulls to kick around instead of a soccerball). There should be an interactive stereo where the music will play as we play in the manor - go all out CD :D
I like the new one, But one thing I do hate is doors that won't open. Every door in your own house should open up or if not open right away are able to be unlocked somehow. Maybe even move the furnitire around would be great. But for gods sake put a kitchen and bathroom in there so it feels like a real house.

I voted for other since I like the additions and a new environment to explore. I particularly like the little touches like the books scattered through out the mansion. Let CD have a free hand and lets get over this reification of the old and move on to something exciting and new.

I voted for Something new. I don't see why there should be a poll on this considering it's obvious which one is going to gain the most votes.

If the Legend one was to have more rooms and more thought put into it then it'd be fine, there were plenty of doors in that manor that were inaccessible that I'd like to know what were in them.
I could see a revamp of the classic manor causing a lot of fret among the forums, people would start complaining that CD have to borrow Cores ideas to make the manor great and not to mention if they forget to add a room or not furnish it to the Classic manors tastes.

Well, they said that the current manor will catch on fire. So what I'd hope is that this happens during the middle of the game. That way, for the first half of the game, she gets to use this manor, and for the other half, she moves into the classic manor.

Has it been "officially" stated anywhere that the mansion will catch on fire? Wonder how that will tie in? Would be a heart wrenching moment to see her fathers home burning down and Lara losing all the items she has collected over the years.
I would like to see though a Trophy room with more relics from her past adventures. Like the Dagger of Xian, the T-Rex head, little pieces of nostalgia like that should please long time players/fans.

The classic mansion was not too bad. I liked it. But the manor, I think I tend to like more b/c it looks more modern and well I like the new gym, the swimming pool area. I just wish there was more things to explore in the manor.
Maybe a mix would be great.

-Secrets like the key to open the Quad,or labyrinth and no those awful brilliant "secrets"

The last 2 Mansions were "acceptable" for me, but I'd love them not only to duplicate TR1-3 mansion, but better it.
Lara is on the road quite often, so I'm guessing a person like that wants to have a Mansion full of things to help entertain her, relax her etc. when she finally gets a moment back home.
It should be packed with more fun things to do (which don't neccessarily have a real purpose) e.g go-cart racecourse, annoying Winston, a secret underground aquarium where you can feed the fish and watch them scurry to a corner of the tank etc...
The likes of "OK" and "Hello" magazines are full of examples of what the worlds rich, famous or eccentric have in their decadent homes to help them unwind, so it can't be too difficult to come up with some fresh ideas too.
I think they should also have a new type of assault course (practice wall run or timed runs/disappearning ledges) and all her new move combinations.
There should also be a firing range with moving targets to let you get the hang of the adrenaline move in a safe environment.
And some stand-alone independent Mansion puzzles to unlock secret rooms, activate beautiful and spectacular garden fountains and floodlights by night etc... Maybe even a secret way onto the roof or climbing a special tree in the garden which allows you to get a magnificent panormanic view of the mansion.
Oh, and while they're at it... They seriously need to build a front door and kitchen in that place - it is seriously getting on my nerves that there is nowhere for a 21st century girl to prepare food.

I think CD did a good job upgrading it, sure it doesn't have the kitchen or the outside assault course (there was nothing to do on the inside one), but the classic manor rooms were pretty much empty spaces?
There's always room to improvement right, but truth to be told, it took classic manor 3 games till it had something cooler to do than just run around it. Even TR2's treasure room was nothing special or worth the trouble.
The pool house was beautiful on all of them, too!
Well I like both manors, the classic one and the Crystal one (although I admit the latter is less interactive), so I thought it would have been right to vote "Other" and I'm going to explain my reasons: I am one of the few people who accetted the fact CORE Design is out, this way I buried the classic games, that canon, that Lara and everything that belongs to CORE world. It's over, along with the classic manor. With the coming of the Crystal, I learned to see Legend as Tomb Raider 1, a new continuity that has nothing to do with the first six installments (for me, Underworld isn't the ninth game, but the third one): because of this, the Crystal manor is the official one IMO. I'm not saying I prefer it, they can get rid of that and create a new manor, never mind. I just don't consider the classic manor anymore. :)

I'd really like Croft Manor to be a playable level in the game itself; and then perhaps another place for Lara to run around for fun? lol
Well I like both manors, the classic one and the Crystal one (although I admit the latter is less interactive), so I thought it would have been right to vote "Other" and I'm going to explain my reasons: I am one of the few people who accetted the fact CORE Design is out, this way I buried the classic games, that canon, that Lara and everything that belongs to CORE world. It's over, along with the classic manor. With the coming of the Crystal, I learned to see Legend as Tomb Raider 1, a new continuity that has nothing to do with the first six installments (for me, Underworld isn't the ninth game, but the third one): because of this, the Crystal manor is the official one IMO. I'm not saying I prefer it, they can get rid of that and create a new manor, never mind. I just don't consider the classic manor anymore. :)
I think most people that played Tomb Raider starting with the early classics will never forget Core's mansion, Lara, adventures or the music!:yik: For me CD still has a few things to do before it can live totally up to the classic games that were before their take over & I could never forget Lara's roots, but I understand what you mean.;) It's a way to embrace the new TR era & enjoying it! :)
Like I mentioned before the movie mansion is nice just needs to be more complete. The classic mansion felt like a whole estate, a similar thing with CD graphics would be amazing!.:D
^ I didn't forget about CORE's mansion at all, I just buried it inside my memories. They are the brilliant past of the saga (although I think that after the first Tomb Raider the serie starts dying), but now it's over: it's stupid to compare this era with that of last decade. I still don't get this kind of thread, but at least I explained my reasons. :)

I like the classic manor.
I like the way how it looked in the TRC FMV :D and in the title screen of TRC and TRIII
I voted 'Other': I'm not really that bothered. I really like both versions. As long as whichever one we get is packed with things to do, little easter eggs and is jaw-droppingly beautiful, I'll be happy.
The new manor is nice, very nice, and it has a far better level of detail than the old version. It also has more action per square-meter, so it is more interesting.
But the classic manor is the classic manor, damn it. I want it back and I want it badly. Of course, with updated graphics, and more (but optional) puzzles, but I still want the freedom and the classic looks back.
i like the movie/ current manor but i would like more rooms nd a big wide front garden with a gate u can walk out of nd start yours misson like you did in the classics

I dont know why anyone wants that bulky place again! Everything was over exaggerated in size. The stairs were to big and there were not enough rooms. Everything was rather bare too. Now if they updated Lara's original home and made it her new home that would be okay but everything would be too small. I think they need to bring back a mixture of both manors. One with many many rooms, secret halls, giant pools, training room, ect... then there needs to have an original feel to it, and have the classic outside course, race track, basement, and attic, and the little fun things like the freezer and kitchen and what not. If I had to choose one it would have to be Legend's manor because of its feel.

Well, I really would like something new, but we might have to wait a while for another one. I mean, we've only seen 2/3 manors, so Im guessing there'll be a new one in the future.

you're a disgrace to TR fandom IMO, Core TR will ALWAYS be official canon,as you yourself said...this is a NEW continuity,an alternate universe TR.. (it's with that in mind i'll play Crystal TR's and like/dislike accordingly)

i dont really care if its a new manor or not, but i want it to be complex and fun to explore. the only thing i dont really like about the current manor is that i dont like how when se opens doors the two black bars come on the screen, it takes me away from the experienceee.

Yeah, and I really hate how the camera flips around so I have to bother readjusting it just to see where I'm going.
I don't know.I like both, maybe the TRL/TRA a little more, because of all the details that make it actually look like a luxurious house and not just a playground.But I want it to be bigger, with more rooms, an outdoor area, and more interactive.

I love the classic Core games more but i absolutely love the new CD mansion. if only there was an outdoor assault course as well as the gym. Fingers crossed for the new mansion. What about the possibility of having the classic manor as an unlockable cheat?!!!!

Voted for Other - because I like the TRL/TRA mansion, but I am completely indifferent to the movies, so I didn't want to vote for the second option. Also, what I would really love is the TRL/TRA mansion minus the miles of empty corridors. :hea:
The third option - something new - wouldn't be bad either. But I definitely don't want the Classic manor back. It was fun, but I prefer the style of the new one.

Well something new is always lovely, but I loved old mansions. The Legend/Anniversary ones seemed boring. I want kitchen and bathroom finally. :D Also I want some more outdoors than just a labyrinth. But I liked labyrinth... it was cool..... except when you come across same statue over 3 times.
Three mansions? Hmmm... Maybe we can visit others too when the default one burns.

At each fence where you can leave a manor you get the option to go to the main menu or to travel to another manor :) I'd Like That badly!

I voted Classic, but bigger and better! You can't really beat it. The hours I spent running around that mansion. I hope Crystal surprise us. :)

Yeah but the poll is completely biased by saying old manor but bigger and better! If it said current movie based one one but bigger and better it might even the score a bit. I like the new one but bigger and better would be great, I wanna spend ages in Croft Manor running around playing with stuff, makes for great replay-a-bility. The training room like at the start of the tomb raider movie would be great and fighting the robot thing, the faux temple room in her house was great and would love to explore that some.

The new manor is beautiful and I do like it, but somehow the classic one feels more like home. When you take a break from Tomb Raiding and head to the mansion in the classic manor you really did feel relaxed and... well, just at home really. The new one just doesn't feel welcoming beautiful as it is.
