12 years after it's release I found an original psx copy in a store, the one with the big case and picture disc, back when Tomb Raider was released I was still a little kid who didn't have the money to buy my own copy, I had to play my brothers Tomb Raider, so I only have the platinum version.

But to find it on a shelf 12 years later in it's original release next to PS3 games for 3 euro's(!) is just really cool :D

That's what I was wondering... I've got the big case version and there's only one disc for the game...

You lucky, lucky man! I can't find one! :( I only have the platinum version.

About the case, in Europe all PSX games came with a thicker case. Not double, but way thicker than usual CDs.

That's lovely!

My original disc from the ye' olden days is all scratchy and doesn't load past St. Francis' Folly! I can't play any other levels after that. :(

I stupidly stood on my original Tomb Raider (with picture disc and everything) which I bought for a quid at a car boot sale. I still have the case.. so I might buy a new one then put the disc in the old case :)

LUUUCKY. I need one. Funny because my first Tomb Raider DISC (NOT GREATEST HITS EITHER) (AND it was my first PS1 game to have AND played) SNAPPED in PIECES. It broke my heart.

Theeeen later on a few years later, I got the Tomb Raider Collector's edition pack :D Honestly, I didn't really care for TR2 and 3 in the package but ONE was what I was after XD But now all those discs are scratched. Though they still work, I can't believe they're scratched. WHY did I lend these to my friends....

O man I miss seeing them on my local Electronic megastore..seeing them big boxes of TR on PCs (and I know I sound crazy, but the smell of the boxes are RICH) and of course, seeing the PS versions on shelves...

I have the double case copy that I bought back in '96 - unfortunately, my copy glitches on the cutscene just before Natla's Mines and refuses to play any further, and so is essentially useless now... :( (Nevermind, though - I have another PSX versions and two PC versions to keep me happy! :p)

I remember getting quite confused as to why it was in a double case and actually ringing the store back up, in a panic that they'd forgotten to give me the second disc! :D

Hmm I think I know the reason...it depends from the answers I get from this question:
How thick was the manual booklet?

Sort of unrelated but related: my brother's Worms Armageddon for PS1 was a double case but it was one disc. Reason was because the thickness of the booklet was FAT so it took up one side of the double case.

MY booklet from the TR1 single case (from the normal/original and the collector's edition) is a slim size normal sized booklet so I could be wrong..

Otherwise, all the reason I can come up with is that TR1 was sooo special it deserved a double case :) (and we all know how golden this game was and IS;))

So the thick PS1 case is the original? My friend has that and I always thought it was just some mistake! Now you have me wondering how he has the original!

i couldnt quite understand why there was a double box, maybe to try it out for future references?
I bought the game when i was 4 with my dad, i remember being scared of the t-rex!
OMG i ran away, and got my dad to kill it. :D

We had the double box but couldn't find it so I just bought a regular one.

I always wondered about the double disc as well..was there a demo with it? I can't rightly remember.

So are the games with the fat case and the green disk originals? That's what my copy is, and I got it in June this year :jmp:

Thick cases were used in Europe, as the instructions booklet was really thick 'cause it came in several languages. This thicker casing was used in Europe to acomodate the multi-language booklet. Every PSX game released in Europe came in a thick case. (not as thick as a double CD case, but way thicker than a common jewel case).

I have still got my Saturn copy but I dont know if it works very well. I have only got the platinum version for PS because by the time I bought(15 months after release) it had gone Platinum.

I got the original of amazon the other month after my mum's friend lent our copy years ago and then moved away, the cow.

I had no idea it was the original version though, I thought I was gonna be sent the platinum.
