View Full Version : "TRA St. Francis Folly x 10 = TRU level scale"

I know some previews are really not interesting to read, but I think this one's an exception if only for the closing line.

Underworld looks stunning, but the visuals are the least of the improvements. Every level's scale feels like St. Francis' Folly times ten. Without doubt this open-world-ish design is the direction the series was meant to take.

I don't think theres a connection. :o they're just saying how big the new game's levels can be with next gen capabilities imo, by comparing it to the folly, which lots are familliar with :p :p

if this isnt speculating at the review hinting at the folly returning, shoot me :o XD :p

Now that I want to see! I spent almost 3 hours in the folly, and I LOVED it! But.. 10 times that... erm. that'd be 30 hours in a level. That can't be true now can it? :p

St Francis Folly took me ages - definitely one of the highlights in TRA, and one of the better levels.

This sounds like great news! I hope we get lost lots. :)

Sound great, can't wait to play. Thx Conway.

It took me just over an hour to complete the Folly on my first playthrough, but I played it yesterday and it took me 17 minutes... Underworld needs to up the scale x100 and not 10.

i think its talking about the size of level not level completion time

i think its talking about the size of level not level completion time

I know, which is why I mentioned both. :D The Folly looks big, but you can only go into the four main rooms, and with an area that big there could be lots of places for Lara to explore in.

think about fun what game have to offer, not to size and number of levels!

TRL was great game, no matter 'cause it's short - it makes u wanna play game more and u play it again.
short things are sweet!

but for TRU, if levels are really that long (st. folly x10) ...... omg...... we will play game once till we comlpete it, and what than??? - too long game, not for comleteing one more time!

:hea::hea::hea:

remember, short and sweet things are driving us crazy!! but not big and sweet things!!

fun is important - not number of levels

i don't know about u, but i don't worry about level number.

LOL I know.
xD We're not nice to Lara.

Why complain? No-one here except maybe Keir have seen the actual game-game, like THE REAL DEAL, not some demo. You don't know if its lacking fun or not.

I love gigantic areas, like the Lost Valley and Tomb of Qualopec. (I don't like St. Francis' Folly solely because I don't like Damoclese) And I'm really looking forward to exploring Mexico as far as I can, just because I love the imerse enivrement Cyrstal Dynamics has set up. The screenshot we have of Mexico are great.

I applaud you Cyrstal. :D

I hope that's true because the folly was the best level of TRA. Now, that's how CD should do things.

KIKO
20-07-08, 12:50
Yeah i hope this is true too. But remember 10 times SFF doesn't mean that you will spend 10 times the time you took to complete it. Because most of that 10 times bigger can be multipath rotes, dead ends, sight seing places, etc.

That is, by far, the best news we've ever heard about the game. I can't wait! :D

It took me just over an hour to complete the Folly on my first playthrough, but I played it yesterday and it took me 17 minutes... Underworld needs to up the scale x100 and not 10.

It still takes me at least 40 minutes... I've never completed the time trial. :p

dcw123
20-07-08, 13:12
I beat the time trial in about 19 minutes..which is hard to do, because I kept forgetting to go bak for the Atlas key after running from the boulder:p
That means that hopefully, each level will be about 2 hours long!:D
Finally...some longer levels:ton: *cough* Colusium in TRA *cough*

da tomb raider!
20-07-08, 13:31
I doubt that very much.

Endow
20-07-08, 13:39
It's obviously an exaggeration, but even if it falls short of meeting that goal, even if they are just as big as St. Francis Folly, I'll be happy.

The question is : levels = locations?

Ouch! This is very good news - provided they are true!

Although Endow already pointed out that we need to know if we're talking about levels inside the locations, or the entire location..

OK, i'm not really into the HUUUUUUGE level idea. Sure its realistic, but doesn't this mean the game will be linear as hell?

just*raidin*tomb
20-07-08, 21:58
Why would you think that?

laralover_07
20-07-08, 22:01
Because as a few people have commented on other threads. How will they fit huge levels on a disc without it either being linear or short like legend? Okay, PS3 is okay. it's got blu-ray. but..

It'll be non-linear and it'll be a great and long game. I don't know much about the capacity of discs, but CD will find a way. I know they will. :D

Bigger levels call for less linearity and longer levels. You're completely contradicting yourself.

:D
I know they'll find a way if we all take a trip with our pitchforks and shot-guns to their studios demanding a non-linear long game with gigantic levels called Tomb Raider Underworld.
:vlol:
ANGRY TOMB RAIDER FANS UNITE!
xD
Depends on what you call a fact.

20-07-08, 22:39
They already announced that if you went through the entire game (practically like a speed run) than it would be twice Legend's length. That's all I really need to know that makes me know it's long enough.

I don't know how much longer it could be than that, but if it's not as much fun as Legend, then nobody's gonna come back to it after they beat it.

Legend was short but sweet. Anniversary was longer, yet not that satisfying.
I'm hoping Underworld will be long but very much satisfying.:D

LegenDarY
20-07-08, 23:24
You know what the problem is? The level can be 10 times as big, but if the path is highlighted as always, it will feel like a small area again.

It doesn't only have to be 10x the size, it also has to be 10x as un-linear as standard TRL/TRA levels, like the Folly is.

Tombraiderx08
20-07-08, 23:26
Wow, video walkthroughs are going to be really long then, and REALLY long to upload hahaha...Im so exciiiitedddd longer levellllls!!!!
