Recently blown the dust off my Sega Saturn to have a go on the first version of Tomb Raider that I ever played. Plodding along, trying to get all the secrets and by coincidence I came across a video on Youtube that explains it's impossible to get one of the secrets in the Cistern level - is this true??

Yep I have the Saturn version myself (fellow Nights fan, btw) and have the same problem if I recall correctly (it's been a long time since I played it on the Saturn).
But my copy of the game is PAL, so maybe that's it. Is your version the PAL version as well?

(Ha, cool bout the NiGHTS thing :wve:) Yeah it's the PAL version - I completed it first on the Saturn with no secrets, and then got a PlayStation for Christmas one year so I could play Tomb Raider 2. Eventually bought TR1 on the cheap and got all the secrets. Had no idea you couldn't get all of them on the Saturn version though! Bit mad...

I know there's been at least one old thread on this subject, perhaps you can search it out.

Me too. The only secret in the game that can't be had is that one in the final level beyond the swinging blades and above the long long drop to the one square pool below. But, somehow, there was one time I got that secret. I swear.

I thought that in the NTSC and Pal versions of the game that the only unobtainable secret/medipack was the large medipack in palace midas, it's just to the left of the set of switches, up on an unreachable ledge? didnt know there was one in the cistern too
i have two copies of TR1. one of the original psx version and the other is the greatest hits version. on both copies i get this glitch. both copies are NTSC, but there are times when i've reached this area push the block and find...nothing. just a wall. most of the times i get the secret inside but there have been some rare moments when i can't get through cuz of some stupid wall that suddenly appears there for no reason. weird.
^ That must be some glitching trigger...
Have you ever tried to open the doors first then return to move the block and get this secret?
i have played the demo on saturn, it plays well on it.
It has been 11 years since I also played the PAL game on the Saturn (also bought PS to play TR2), but I don't recall having problems with any secret.
Only the last and buggy one which even if you got it, it would always say 2 out of 3 secrets in the end...
But as I said, it has been 11 years! :p
the glitch appears no matter what i do. it rarely happens. i just played again through the cistern level. the secret was there behind the block but for some reason i couldn't get the 2nd key to work. you know how there's two keys, one for each door next to the secret. the first key worked, but on the second door, lara keeps saying no. i had to restart from a save point. it finally opened afterwards.
