It began in India because it was there Qualopec's tomb was?
Lara knew Larson and he introduced her to Natla, Natla needed Lara's help in capturing the Scion pieces...
Lara was a famous Archiologist, as you see, she fought the Yeti!! (Or was that TRA?)
:)

What? Qualopec's tomb is in Vilcabamba.....
Nah I think she was in India simply to show us she was already experienced traveller and explorer, she probably had been investigating something else over there.
Or maybe she was on vacations. :whi:

Perhaps she had just finished retrieving an artifact and was resting up in the hotel afterwards. Or she was dying for some real, authentic Amer Chutney. Who knows? But I like to think that she was either in the research process of a "Tomb Raid", or simply on a little R&R.

i'm pretty sure they set the scene in india to simultaneously establish that Lara was an experienced world-traveller and that natla was powerful and connected enough to find her, no matter where she was.

i always thought she'd just caught bigfoot, because Larson comes in with the line 'what's a maaan gotta do to get that kinda attention from ya?' then puts the newspaper in front of her thats says 'Lara stomps out bigfoot', so i always assumed she had tracked bigfoot to india, and got it!

Actually that is a nice one, because Tibet is where the Yeti's mainly allegedly are, so she did her job there and was going back home through India which borders Tibet.

Thanks, just thought i'd pipe up and say what i thought, lol. I never thought she was there for anything to do with the Scion, because i only thought she found out about that in the brief 'video phone' conversation with Natla.

The only problem with that theory is that Bigfoot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigfoot) is found in North America, not India or Tibet. :p

Wrong, Tibet has legends of Yetis/Bigfoots:
http://cryptozoo.monstrous.com/the_yeti.htm
In fact the word Yeti is Tibetan:
"In Tibetan, Yeti means "magical creature"; meh-the means the "manlike thing that is not a man". However, the translator at the time incorrectly transcribed it as metoh-kangmi, which translates approximately to "abominable snowman". The people of Nepal also call them "rakshasa" which is Sanskrit for "demon".
Folklore
According to the Tibetans, stories of its existence date back to the 4th century BC when references to the Yeti are found in a poem called 'Rama and Sita'. The belief in these creatures is universal among Tibetans. The government of Nepal from officially declared the Yeti to exist in 1961. It became their national symbol, and an important source of income.
Places
Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, and surrounding areas. Most sightings of the mysterious Yeti occur among the Himalayas including the famous Mount Everest which is the highest mountain in the world with 29,028 feet high. "
I am perfectly aware that the Yeti legend originates in the Himalayan countries. However, the Bigfoot is not the same thing as the Yeti at all, and the magazine in TR1 says Bigfoot not Yeti.
In public perception Bigfoot and Yeti are considered the same thing.
"A Yeti, a Sasquatch, or a Bigfoot are all very similar mythical animals supposedly inhabiting the Himalayas, Canada, or the USA."
They are most times used in the same sentence when talked about, even researchers when they talk about a Bigfoot in Canada say Yeti :o

I agree (too) with Stereopathic's idea.
Lara could have previously been on one of her countless undocumented adventures in India that probably turned up nothing and therefor wasn't anything of notable significance.
Nobody can ever know the real answer to this question. All is speculation. If we were to know then the scene might've played out something like this. With a narrative from Lara...
"Having just recently discovered an ancient lost temple deep in the Jungles of India I was approached by a man with an intrigueing offer..."
The next question (if it must be asked) would be: "What did Lara find?"
And the answer to that is: "She found that it was empty." :)
As for the Yeti -vs- Bigfoot thing...
The term "Bigfoot" is a generalization of 'Sasquatch'. Or, one could say they're an "Americanized" (as in the North American continent) version of a Yeti. Maybe a 'North American Yeti' could be a term. Or a Himalayan Sasquatch could be a Yeti.
Since this creature is considered a 'Legend' and no solid sceintific evidence exists to support it's existence... No one Name can be tagged directly to it or any of it's various forms -which I would assume- depend on it's habitat/local.

But you missed the point that yeti/bigfoot/etc are seen in general as the same thing, even so called researchers mention it like that.
