View Full Version : Music or other sounds in Tomb Raider 2 stops suddenly

Hey,

I'm playing Tomb Raider 2 again on PC, with Windows XP. I have run the Tomb Raider Updater from www.tombraiderchronicles.com. In the setup I chose Realtek sound instead of primary sound, I think that's the right choice.

Sometimes I have the problem that some music or sound starts and quickly stops again, but I want to enjoy from everything! :(

It's not always because some other sound has to play by a trigger, sometimes just nothing follows.

A situation where I always have it is when I finish the assault course, after she sais: "Wow, that was fast!" is like 5 seconds (or more) nothing and then it sounds like she wants to say something but it cuts off.

Familiar?

PS I don't make a topic for it, but what's the use of having to wait 60 seconds for searching? This is also when I don't have a succesfull search the first time. I thought that they wanted you to search well before you write a topic yourself when having problems.

1. Update your Realtek drivers (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false).

2. Go to Start > Run, type "dxdiag" w/o quotes and press Enter. Try setting Hardware Acceleration to "Basic Acceleration" on Sound tab and press OK button.

3. Choose Primary Sound Device in TR2 settings.

4. If the issue continues, run Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and post the report.

Thanks, I'm going to try if it works.

*edit*

Under the sound tab in dxdiag I could change the location of a switch with the possibilities: No acceleration, Basic acc, Standard acc, Full acc (I translated this from Dutch)

I didn't see Hardware Acc anywhere. I did change it to basic acc. I also chose Primary Sound Device in the TR 2 setup. It still doesn't work. After the assault course she sais : "Gosh, that was my best time yet!" and then after it she does "Oh.." and it stops. Is that normal or not?

I discovered something, the "Oh..." is probably "Oh dear, back to the start if I want to beat my best time". She says this when I'm walking to the start, next to the course (I discovered that she HAS to say this when I fall off the bridge). After she said this (5 sec later) she says "To sp..." and I hear nothing again. (also when I fell of the bridge)

1. Update your video drivers from www.nvidia.com

2. Update your audio drivers from THIS (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false) page (tick "I agree..." and press OK).

3. Disable/uninstall your CD/DVD emulating software.

Are you sure that all that has effect? Like switching off the emulation software.

By the way I found out that this is always what's happening:
A sound plays off normally and when it HAS to play. When it's finished, 5 seconds later you hear 0,1 seconds of another sound. This sound probably doesn't suppose to play in this situation.

^ It's just a glitch. Happens sometimes everywhere :) (CD calls glitching under XP/Vista).
