I'd love a multi-player option so i can compete against everyone here and we can see who is the best tomb raider-er of all time. That would be AMAZING!!! and for those who don't want it, just don't play it!!!

That sounds like fighting talk. Let's hope that CD decide it's a great idea too so I can make you eat your own words and some of Lara's bullets. We could set up little tournaments. I am excited about this.

Maybe so, but can't it be both? Once a multiplayer function has been developed, we can enjoy it for years while they produce new games :)

Also, the possibilities in a TR online game are too good to pass, I think.. It wouldn't have to be a mere shoot-out like Call of Duty :) (don't know about War Rock)

True yes, but multiplayer would have replayability factor to the game, it optional if you don't want to play the multiplayer you don't have to.

Could be fun - but I've never been a fan of multiplayer games, or online games... so, I'd probably play once and never again. :ton:

I can't see how that is supposed to work. But as long as it's fun and not destroying the game, I'm all for it.

By destroying the game I mean things like Deathmatches. Imagine 4 Laras shooting at each other until one's left. That would be soo stupid. So if they decide to do so, they should make something really clever.

And by the way, just because Resident Evil and Prince of Persia decided to include a multiplayer function, it doesn't mean Tomb Raider has to join them. :wve:

Since it would have nothing to do with the story itself, i think it would be cool. I seriously can't see what the problem is in having it. It's pure innovation, that's all. Tomb Raider needs some innovations, because if not, we would buy the same thing every year. :)

Does that really has anything to do with TombRaider going Online?
It is being debated because making/playing TombRaider isn't enough:) Finding new ways to become a TombRaider yourself is much much more relevant now. Imagine, a whole new perspective. Unlocking the doors to unlimited possibilities to solve and derive the game as you're progressing through with friends and foes standing in your way. This online / multiplayer feature cannot consist of deathmatches and finding the flagg or destroying objects but will and has to be something new entirely:D The obvious reason for this is mostly because Lara simply does not find a flag and returns it to a base.. However. whomever played the race for the Iris in TombRaider 4 can feel ideas rising to the surface of how online gameplay could become reality in a nearby future:)

I don't see how it would work? So that means Lara wouldn't be the only playable character? Boo. I would not like that at all. This is my opinion/personal taste.

I mean, if they do come up with a clever way of nailing this, then I might be a little bit more open. But until then, I definitely prefer it single player!

Everytime this comes up people moan about having multiple Lara's on the screen. Why? Lara, if at all, may not be the only playable character. It may end up you play a customised character (like in GTA IV or MGS4) or a variety of characters like Natla, Kurtis, Zip, Alister with their own skills. Even if it was Lara they'd be differences between them and the camera, unless otherwise forced to, would be centred on your Lara removing any confusion on which Lara you would be. Hell, it could easily enough be co-op multiplayer! That could work incredibly well.

Multiplayer TR works well - take it from someone who's played multiplayer Tomb Raider.

10-08-08, 20:06
if it does happen make it optional, for me i would like it because its a different experience, but some others are not fond of the idea, i wouldn't mine beating some of people arses online show'em what i'm made of lol :D

Fallen.Angel
10-08-08, 20:15
A different experience would be nice and my boyfriend could play with me... those are the only two good things about it IMO.

No matter what I'd still prefer if Lara was the only playable character. But I'm open.. if they come up with a clever way to do it.

Yeah.... plus it'd be optional. Always a plus.

I can picture Tomb Raider going online...but to have a million Laras...that'd be weird. I say they can implement it, but let us create our own Raider. Looks, weapons, clothes, name, bio, everything... :)

that would be great maybe it could help with the replay value. like different weapons come give different outcomes on how you win also clothes like if you have a really big coat and your in the [insert hot humid place here] you could faint in the middle of the game..or die and prevent you from winning. it could be what you would expect to happen when you accessorize them...this could work...

I see it being just like a time trial against others around the world. Like a race to complete the levels. Or a co-op mode where 2 players (Lara and a companion e.g. Zip, Alistair or even Kurtis) help each other solve puzzles and complete the levels. I don't like the sound of death matches, as Lara is not Duke Nukem and would not be in keeping with Tomb Riders theme.

off topic: I have just watched Lara Croft: Tomb Raider the movie again and it got me excited about the game even more. I love Tomb Raider and everything about it.

10-08-08, 20:37
I don't see this as a bad Idea, if they explored a side where you need to do multiple things at the same time to reach an artifact (therefore multiple player without breaking the single-ish of TR) + this way everyone would have to play over and over again to rotate thruout all different positions ans explore the level to the max. And not explore the player vrs player shooting style. They could however explore PvP if if was to compete agains each other to see who reaches where first.

Ward Dragon
10-08-08, 20:42
I'd rather they spend their time and resources on the single player game making sure they get that right before branching off into multiplayer. Personally I don't think any kind of death match, capture the flag, or MMORPG would be good with the TR theme. Co-op mode could be interesting, though, but I'd have to see how it's implemented before I form an opinion on it.

On a side note, it would be pretty cool if we could play as different characters from throughout the entire series, although I suppose if I picked Karel he'd have to be dumbed down to human-ish levels to make the gameplay work (unless they do something really cool where the level creates itself based upon which character you pick and what special abilities they have, but that sounds like it would take too much work and I want the single player game to be good).

Hey, as long as it's implemented well...doesn't take development time away from the single player part of the game, and is fun to play I'm all for it.

It would be a way to keep it fresh, because Crystal Dynamics could potentially release new 'maps' or levels for the multiplayer every few months, meaning that the game could never get old.

Another stab at AOD, eh? It seems even the media can't forget about that game -- loathe it or love it, it doesn't seem to be buried as deep as Eidos wants it.

Multi-player is a decent idea. If they did a multi-player, they'd have to involve new characters. The new characters could sell or sink the whole thing. Either we'll get generic characters (other "tomb raiders") or we'll get interesting fleshed out characters. Each character will probably have specific strengths and weaknesses. The multi-player would require online in order to add all of these "endless world" ideas. It would take a team of dedicated designers and etc to continuously update, work out the kinks, etc.

Speaking of multi-player, we gave that a spin once and it didn't go down so well (I loved it, but the majority didn't). I don't see it being successful in the Tomb Raider world. Tomb Raider, the single player game, already takes a lot of work. There are usually delays in order to get the game out.

A multi-player game, even if executed properly would stretch Crystal Dynamics too thin as far as working on these games. They'd have to hire a team specifically for the multi-player game. More money, more time, and no promise that it will sell.

I find it incredibly naive to allow so much to ride on a single title. Tomb Raider is heavily relied on for "bringing the money". I read an article recently that Sci Entertainment lost 100m, but they felt optimistic due to the titles coming out and TR: Underworld was at the top of the list.

On the other hand, Crystal Dynamics hasn't taken a decent risk with the Tomb Raider series as of yet. Perhaps this is what they need in order to stop playing it too safe.

I'd love multiplayer in TR. As people have said before, It'd give all us TR nuts something to do in between new games :D

And as for the person who said that if hardcore fans don't want it, then it should happen - what?! I've never heard such rubbish! 'Hardcore' fans make up a small percentage of the TR fanbase now, to ignore the opinons of other fans would be ridiculous. Besides, I hate the term 'hardcore fans'. Who's to say that the opinions of one fan is worth more than another? Because they played a couple more of the games? Tosh.

Angelus: I think they mean uploading photos etc. I think I read somewhere that TRU won't have any multiplayer features.
