View Full Version : Very slow boot times

tweetygwee
13-08-08, 20:18
After doing a system restore (Packard Bell's "Smart Restore"), from turning the computer on to the desktop fully loaded takes about 6 minutes. I cannot think of any reason for this, as my time was more like 2 minutes before the restore and I haven't done anything since.

The majority of this time is on the screen displaying windows XP and long blank screens. The time displaying "windows is starting up" and on the actual desktop seems pretty normal.

Here's my diagnose.exe results:

1. RcMan.exe 3016 Console 0 2,388 K
shellmon.exe 3504 Console 0 2,336 K
logon.scr 3852 Console 0 1,596 K

seem fishy to me.

Run ARDiag.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/ardiag.exe) and post the report.

2. Uninstall crappy Norton antivirus (all Symantec stuff generally) - it's the biggest resourse hog here.

3. Run CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/download) to remove all the junk from your PC.

4. Run Reg Cleaner (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/RegCleaner.zip) ion automatic mode.

5. Install audio and video drivers updates.

6. Defragment your drives.

Wouldn't have been stupid enough to install Norton myself! - that's a feature of the computer when it was bought, so it reinstalled after the restore. Thanks for spotting that, have gotten rid of it.
