Hello there,

I have a question. Every now and then my PC suddenly stops working and there is nothing I can do about it except restarting it. I don't have a clue why this occurs - it happens when I'm on the internet or when I'm playing videogames.

Underneath some additional information of my dxdiag-report. :pi:

I hope someone can help me out there, please!

Thanks a lot!

Bye for now

1. You have a powerful PC and relatively low amount of RAM.

2. Run ARDiag.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/ardiag.exe) and post the report - I need information about processes running on your PC.

BTW, does it just hang or return some error message or BSOD?

I will do that. Thanks! Is Ardiag better than dxdiag?

It hangs. It does absolutely nothing. And from time to time the computer also makes this scratching noises inside the computer case like it's processing how to fire a rocket or something complex like that. This sometimes even happens when I'm virtually doing nothing at all.

But I'll get you that ardiag-rapport asap!

Many thanks!

Bye for now

Hey,

Thanks for your quick reply. However: a few questions.

1) What do you mean by "Don't bump"? What does the word bump mean actually, please?
2) What entries do I have to kill - I don't know to much about computers? Or do I have to run this program called "Autoruns" and it will show me what entries I have to kill?
3) I don't have the money for a new antivirus right now (sorry) but what if I shut down my virus scanner through task manager? Should that make things run more smoothly?

Again: many thanks for your help!

Bye for now

1. Don't post "Someone help me!" right half an hour after you have already posted the report (anything generally). Doubleposting or trying to get attention is not welcome here. Nobody is sitting the whole 24/7 at the forum. You'll get answers when it's time ;)

2. Download Autoruns, run it (Autoruns.exe) - it'll scan your processes, then on the Everything tab you must look for the entries I've listed and untick them or right click and delete completely.

3. Zone Alarm (http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/home.jsp) has the free version.

AVG is also free :)

Thanks again!

However: is it possible that the link you provided isn't working properly?

thx

your right... the autoruns link isnt working. however, it just so happens that if you were to google the word "autoruns" (w/0 quotes) and press the button "im feeling lucky" I can guarantee you that you would get to the page that esconder meant to link.

Hey,

Ok - so I downloaded the program Autoruns but once I open it there is a lot of stuff appearing in several different categories.

The first question is this: isn't this program the same as deleting processes through CTRL+ALT+DEL?

Secondly: what do I have to do in Autoruns? Do I have to delete or alter certain executables? Because the first bar is Everything and only the ones mentioned afterwards are the ones that are divided into Logon, Explorer, Internet, Services, Boot executive, LSA Providers, etc ...

Third: the reason why people use this program is to speed up their computer, right? There is nothing going to happen to my PC, right?

Many thanks for any guidance ... and yes: I DID in fact try to read some stuff and learn a little more about this, but it's too technical, I fear. :(

Bye for now

^ Exactly as I have written:

2. Download Autoruns, run it (Autoruns.exe) - it'll scan your processes, then on the Everything tab you must look for the entries I've listed and untick them or right click and delete completely.

Those ebtries are resourse consuming and removing them won't do harm your PC. This list was created by ARDiag.exe - the software written specially to ignore legitimate system processes (vital for OS) and alarm about malware, viruses and resourse hogging stuff.

Killing processes from "CTRL+ALT+DEL list" affects only current session, Autoruns removes those processes totally.

Ah ... ok - thanks! :)

I'll get back to you only if something else isn't clear to me (let's hope not, right) ;-D

Hey,

One last question (I promise I won't bug you anymore after this). I know you'll think I'm stupid (sorry) but it's just that I have succesfully installed all of my 56 videogames and kept my PC as clean as I could, so I'm a bit weary to perform this step.

After running Autoruns - under the bar Everything:

Do I untick or right-click and permanently delete litteraly everything?!. I'm asking you this once more because in that list there is mentioning of some pretty heavy and seemingly crucial stuff such as Explorer.exe, C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe and my own personal Aquatica-screensaver.

I know you mentioned: "software written specially to ignore legitimate system processes (vital for OS) and alarm about malware, viruses and resourse hogging stuff." and if that's true then I don't have a single thing to worry about, but one cannot deny that the things I mentioned above seem pretty pivotal for Windows to work properly, right?

I mean: I wouldn't want to do something that will harm my PC or perhaps refrain my PC from working properly/starting up properly.

So again - I delete EVERY SINGLE AUTORUN ENTRY UNDER THE BAR EVERYTHING IN AUTORUNS AND NOTHING DRASTIC WILL HAPPEN TO MY PC??? :)

Many, many thanks!

Bye for now

Dear EscondeR Moderator sir,

I have done what you listed and unticked all those unnecessary processes (I even deleted one namely the one that was malware). I also unticked one that wasn't mentioned in your list namely Windows Messenger. This last one will not bring any problems to my PC now that it's unchecked, right?

So: the next time I restart my computer - it should go smoother and/or faster, right? Or not? :(

Last but not least - do I keep the program autoruns on my hard drive or is it completely useless now (now that I have unchecked these certain processes) - in short: will I ever have to use Autoruns again?

Many thanks!

Bye for now

nah.. removing windows messenger from startup is totally harmless. I consider it to be a good thing to keep it out of auturun list. :D

keep autoruns around for the future, sometimes when you install new software, it will add itself to the startup/autorun list. you can then use this software to remove it from the list of stuff that runs automatically.

Exactly, not mentioning cases when some malware will need removal (let's hope there won't be many) :)

I wasn't sure whether - after all those questions of mine - you were about to bite my head of or whether you considered helping me a natural thing ... LOL! :D

Ok. Thanks! :-)
