There are multiple ways.

www.keepvid.com

This will allow you to download three versions, the low quality FLV and high quality FLV but you will need an FLV players to play those.

The third option is a high quality MP4 file which plays on Quicktime and usually is the best option quality wise.

im pretty sure that we've gone through this whole thread before in a different way.

here's an app that ive used before:
Youtube to Ipod converter (http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/guides/dvd/convert-YouTube-FLV-video-to-iPod-MP4-video.htm)
Download and convert youtube videos to formats compatible with:

Ipods
Iphone
Apple TV
MP4 phones
3gp phones
PSP
MP3 conversion (for saving audio only)

OR, do what I do...........

Download the FREE version of RealPlayer from here http://uk.real.com/player/win/

Then whenever you play a YouTube video ( other video sites work too !! ) a popup appears like the one in the image below.
Just click it and the video will be downloaded. AND the video can be played in RealPlayer too !! No need for a seperate FLV player OR re-encoding..... etc :)

:) Very true Spike.

We could go on for days about the many different types of apps out there. :hea:

But before Realplayer upgraded their software to include this handy tool I used "keepvid" as suggested earlier. Before that I just went into my temporary internet files and just "copy/pasted" the video file to somewhere else on my computer.

So as you say, many ways.

ps. nice tip about the mobile phone codec :tmb:

hard to say if what i do on my end will make it work on your end since i am running a LOT of different codecs that I am willing to bet that you don't have on your system, considering that you are not allowed to download stuff.

Try VDownloader (http://www.vdownloader.es/), a free utility to download videos from YouTube, Google Video, etc

finally got around to doing it while i was working on some vids for my phone. I needed that application anyhow, so i did it for you. I found out that i can use the main control panel on there to add new features to the program for free. the main one that i needed to do that was one that allowed to D/L youtube videos and convert to AVI.

so, here is the link to the video which should work with WMM:
