I'm new here by the way. ;)
In videos we have seeen such as gameplay and trailers, it shows her running and walking. Her hair moves like its going 100 miles per hour. In the gameplay trailer she is walking to Thor's Tree slowly and her hair is in the air in a straight line. It annoys me.

when running with a ponytail does it go back like that?! im not so sure it does (i dont have a pony tail or braid so dont ask me haha)
I think they should:
1) bring back the braid to make the hair physics less of a problem
2) shave her bald (which is my personal fav)
seriously though... so long as the rest of the game is good, I don't really care about the hair...If you look at the pre-alpha screenshots her hair was much worse than now, so maybe give them time and see how it is in the final game?

I agree. It's next-gen. Of course, I obviously WOULD NOT boycott it just because of it if :rolleyes: It's definitely not the biggest issue, and I wouldn't complain if it isn't fixed. But it's something I would love to see be more realistic.
If anything, they should have given her the braid. But again, not complaining. It'd just be especially nice to have it updated.

I completely agree, but hair is a REALLY big deal in gaming right now. A lot of games which look beautiful have had horrific hair detailing (Dead or Alive 4 is a great example). It's incredible to look at where Final Fantasy XIII is going as far as realism is concerned:

Well it does not annoy me half as much as the hair in AOD did, but the pony tail does seem a bit light in weight the way it flies around. l am not going to spend any time worry about it though, at least it behaves like hair.

I think the hair isn't that much of a problem. At a close view and when from the water it sort of does look hot.
I really wish she had her braid back, but for some reason Crystal Dynamics seem to favor the ponytail.
I guess it's better then being too "stiff", but it's like she has a helicopter on her head. :o One day she will just fly away.

Hair physics in game (ie NOT in a controlled cinematic or pre-rendered) is one of the holy grails of gaming i reckon. :)

I just checked, it's 06, I've created multiple female CAWs in that game, and even though the hair goes through the neck, shoulders etc... some hair styles still behave more realistic than Lara's ponytail.

It's probably hard to get the hair to conform to the body, so as to not go through the shoulders, etc., but, in trying to do so, maybe Lara's hair now sticks out more!?
I don't remember Legend being noticably bad in the hair aspect so maybe TRU will be okay (in the finished product).

OMG The boob physics were increased by 500 hundred for DOA Extreme 2. In the end, not only was the hair ignored, but also gameplay and rational thinking. UUUUGH.

The hair could be better, like flailing about wildly instead of just staying clumped together, even underwater.
But crystal are probably focusing on the more integral aspects of the game before relitively trivial issues, such as hair physics, are tackled.

The pony tail never floats, although floating in water would be nice. It trails behind Lara when it is windy, when she is running and when she jumps. It has not been spotted floating without cause, lifting up like a horses tail when Lara interacts with something, or wiggling all by itself when she is still and there is no wind. Thus it is an improvement on all Core's versions that had the braid, it at least behaves like hair, even if very light, seemingly water proof hair. The water problem might yet be solved, l doubt the weight problem will be since Crystal Dynamics probably think it looks better if how the hair reacts to what Lara is doing is slightly exaggerated.

I'm still plagued with nightmares of running around the Serpent Rouge with a brunette laser show being emitted from Lara's head. :p
I actually like how her hair bounces around like Lara's been a long-time endorser of a shampoo product. It looks superhumanly silky and smooth.
It really is unrealistic, that even when she's walking, her hair moves the same way, when riding a bike. But as some say, it's just hair, as long as the story is OK, and the controlling is fine, i don't care :o

there is a pic of her with her hair down in legend its when she is in ghana i think i personaly think you should be able to choose her hair as well as an out fit but keep them separate (pick the outfit then the hair style) between the bun from tr1 ,the braid , ponytail and having it down

I do agree, the ponytail seems a tad light
but what annoys me more is that she has pieces of her fringe that move independently, but then when it comes to the ponytail, it's one big gloopy blob! It moves realistically, but ponytail's have many strands of hair, not one big one
OK So the hair thing in TRU looks better than it does in Legend but the TRA hair is better than the TRU hair IMO. Anyway I miss lara's ponytail from the Classics. They were so memorable. Also use hair cream for hair moisture.

Well since Tomb Raider fans seem so intent on needless niggles about things we are never going to notice or in most cases even see in the game, l thought l would apply myself to finding one about the hair. The Legend hair seemes to have got a bit more attention to minor details, of course it could just be Crystal Dynamics have not got up to the point where they are worried about minor details yet.

Some people spend hours sticking stuff in their hair to get those straggly bits nice and neat, some people just shave them off, a bit of hair on the back of the neck would look nice though, it does not have to move or anything.

Just look at the poor quality of textures on her hair. There's no way CD are not going to fix that before release. It's really bad and it doesn't fit in with the rest of the model or the rest of the game. I'm almost positive that the hair is not complete.
Yes, hair is not that important. But when it does glitches and runs from its intended look, you've got to channel your complain somewhere.
In the classics, guess what I did when I got bored or stuck? I played with her hair. I made Lara jump and tumble to see how the hair move. Try to make her braid rest on her shoulder. Observe its behavior in and on water. Do you know you can wrap her long TR4 braid around her neck when she's on water surface? Yeah, I'm weird. Sue me. :D
In TRL, her hair physic is ok. I love it when you're doing a bullet time and you look at that ponytail as it tumble and spins.. Damn, I wish I had a video. :D
The only complain I have is the hair physic underwater in both TRL and TRA. Hair is affected by gravity even underwater. But in TRL and TRA it looks as if she tied a stone at the end of it! It always points downwards, sometime the end pokes through her body and appear at "The Valley of the Gods"! :D :cln:. If you observe TR classics and TRAOD, her hair floats underwater. Well, not so much floats per se, but not heavily affected by gravity either like in TRL and TRA.
There, I've complained. Glad to get it out of my chest. Hope that CD get her hair underwater physic right. If, they need research, they can always rent Into the Blue, a movie where Jessica Alba wore a ponytail underwater (and not much else :D :cln:)

True. Plus I think Anti-aliasing hasn't been applied yet to those screenshots making everything looks jaggy on the edges.. :D

its actually a very legit topic. crystal dynamics is claiming how theyve payed rediculous amount of detail to this game and its the little things that will set this game apart. well if lara's model isnt perfect... theyre dead in the water before they even began. and as of right now lara's hair is faaaar from perfect, very unrealistic behavior. im sure theyll fix it though nobody can look at that and say "yea thats how hair actually moves its perfect"

Agreed ! It's annoying and ugly, but I'm sure CD will fix it, it must not be hard to do.
