Well you definately need one, that's for sure. This is your machine (http://www.epinions.com/IBM_Netvista_A22p_P4_1_6GHz___20GB___128MB___WinXP ___MicroTower__Servers_635025U/display_~full_specs), right?

What you're looking for is another IDE HDD, but that's asuming you have space on your motherboard. Some older motherboards only had one IDE port. It might be better to buy an external USB HDD. Be patient, and one of the techies will be able to advise you further. :wve:

Yes it is, I have recently updated my PC with 512 MB RAM, I was also looking forward to buying a DVD Drive to, how do these drives look? If I get these Drives, Should I be able to play TRL & TRA? :)

if you have only ONE IDE controller on your motherboard, you can get something like this (http://computers.pricegrabber.com/storage-device-controllers/m/534542/) (ide add in card (pci) ).

you can use one of those cards to run your new DVD drive as well as your Current CD drive. Place your New Hard Drive on the Primary IDE channel (as slave) along with your current Hard drive as the master.

Unless you plan on replacing the hard drive completely:

in that case I would place the new hard drive as the Primary IDE MASTER device (boot device) and place the current (small) drive as the Primary IDE SLAVE device. Install your operating system to the new drive, then move data back over from the old drive. You could then format the old drive and use as a backup data drive.

refer to the manual when purchasing your drive to get the jumpers placed properly for the arrangement you will be using. If you plan on moving the current small drive to be the slave drive, you will most likely need to reset the jumper positions on it as well.

The fact that you're using SDRAM isn't going to do you many favours running TRA and TRL, and the video card would probably not be up to scratch either.

Hmm, putting a new HD in my old IBM PC (very old - some IBM Aptiva from '98) was quite a problem because they had put the slots for the drive upside down making it almost impossible to connect the cable, perhaps to counter off-brand expansion...
Would the NetVista have the same problem?

sorry.. missed that part earlier. yes, you should be able to play the games, but as stated above, the perfomance depends on your other devices.

ive worked with machines like this... what i ended up doing was to remove the drive carriage and put the drive in and connect the cables with the carriage removed... allows a bit more working room.

^ Your RAM type...
Actually the VB is OK, and the problem is not in RAM type, more in it's amount :) Even if you don't plan to try to force Next Gen (you won't run it by default), you still need at least 1Gb of RAM.

What I mean is basically the system is still going to be too slow to run the game properly.

You really need a full internal upgrade.

spikejones

i wouldnt say FULL internal upgrade. however, it would be handy to upgrade your RAM to the full 1.5 GB that the motherboard supports.;)

Video card is decent but not high-end, but it will run the game. However the system RAM is low so it should be increased to support gaming.

Ahh I see the report, they added the 128mb GFX card, not using the 16mb on board POS.

My bad, sorry.

Still, if you're using a system that uses on SD-RAM, its time for an upgrade. Maybe I should send you some of the parts I ahve floating around lol.
