Greetings:

I'm having a terrible time getting the early Tomb Raider titles working properly on a 42" HDTV....other games of more recent vintage play perfectly (Legend, Anniversary). I installed without the XP/Vista (I'm on XP Pro) patch and after a while all the early games simply freeze, I get a black screen and have to Ctl-Alt-Del several times to go back to the normal 1920 x 1080 resolution on desktop, and of course the problem closes.
nv_displ driver stopped working message.....oh well so much so that eh?

I also attempted to play with the patch and the exact same scenario unfolded...play for a while, game seems to slow a bit, and then a freeze motion....same way out as described above.

OK...long-winded description, does anyone have any idea how I can fix this issue with these games?

Many thanks in advance,

Mark (Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, USA)

Your issue is not related to HDTV :)
Please run Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and ARDiag.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/ardiag.exe) and post both reports.

Greetings...

Just wanted to mention that Tomb Raider Chronicles and Angel of Darkness play perfectly.
Thanks...

You may need to enable compatibility mode. Right click on TR2 shortcut, choose properties, find Compatibility tab, enable compatibility mode and choose Windows 98 from the list. Click OK.

Now start the game using that shortcut (from start menu or desktop) - do not use autorun screen to start the game.

Dear Bokie:

I'm afraid I failed to mention that I already enabled 98 compatibility mode.
The list of available resolutions only goes up to 1366 x 768, seems I can play at 1280 x 720 and it gets rather dark than before.

Thanks anyway Bokie

1. Update the video driver from http://www.nvidia.com

2. You need to run ARDiag.exe once more and post the text from Notepad window!

Here's the result of running the second executable:

Nvidia driver updated. Still same problem of freezing.

Autorunsc.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command....or batch file.
ArdHandle.exe is not recognized as an internal or externalcommand, operable program or batch file.
Delete autorunsc.exe
Delete (/Temp/ARD)Autorunsc.bat
Delete .....Ard.txt
Execute: "C:\Windows\notepad.exe" "C:\Documents...\Admin\Local Settings...
Completed.
Notepad that opens is Blank.
That's all.......

Thank you

Mark

^ Do you have Administrator rights on your PC?

MGS
27-09-08, 20:34
Hi:

Yes, I have administrative rights. Perhaps Tomb Raider 2/3, Lost Artifact, and Golden Mask all have this issue and it may be related to resolution....I run the game at the maximum available, sometimes its full 1920 x1080, other times the games do not allow this resolution, maxxing out at 1280 x 768 for widescreen. Never have this problem with any Tomb Raider Game including AOD, Legend, and Anniversary. Still need to give thought to this one I'm stymied.

Thanks for your efforts much appreciated nonetheless

Mark

^ well consider that the older games were developed when screen resolutions and graphics cards were not super big as they are nowadays. that said, using super high resolution will not gain any thing but to blow up the poorer graphics of the time. ;)
