I would stay with XP. Vista may look fancy but Xp is easier to operate and reliable:):wve:

Vista is "supposed" to be run on 2GB or more but it's actually more like 4GB (says PC Format a while back).
...And if you want 4GB you'll need 64bit Windows.

...And if you want 4GB you'll need 64bit Windows.

^wrong

If you want OVER 4 GB you need a 64 bit OS.

As per the 2 GB issue to run Vista, that is pretty much correct. I've been in places like office depot and checked out some of the systems there and saw that with barely any services running (since I turned them off) the computer was still using about 1.5 GB RAM, so with a computer that only has about 1.5 GB RAM like the one in question, I would not recommend Vista.

To clarify GB max compatibility issues:
32 bit OS supports up to 4 GB RAM
64 bit OS supports up to 128 BG RAM

also need to look at the motherboard and what IT will support in terms of maximum compatibility. You also need to look at the architectures that are supported by the motherboard. Not all motherboards will support the x64 (64 bit) architecture. On top of that, if your motherboard supports it... your CPU and memory must.

XP is more capable with more stuff. vista will lag if you have a rubbish comp.

I agree.

I love these nubs that spew out propaganda about Vista's horror based on the web logs from countless other nubs that either haven't attempted to use Vista or tried using it on a stone age computer.

I've used Vista on multiple occasions both at work and at play and its a fine chunk of software given it is being run on decent hardware.

Why are you asking if you already have it?

Anyway, I think Vista is great. Never had a problem with it. 2G of RAM, 2 intel Core. I have an entertainment PC, so this (VISTA) helps greatly

To use Vista with full performance you must:

have Administrator rights
disable many overprotective and annoying services and features, then install some third-party actually working/protecting software
prepare to compatibility headaches
more "presents" from M$

If you're not using Web/e-mail/Office only, I don't recommend Vista... unless you have really powerful PC and plan to install Vista Ultimate x64 SP1... but it's still not reasonable to spare PC resources that way :whi:

And of course... no Vista for this exactly PC discussed here.

I'm using Vista on a machine that can definitely run it. Vista still seems more unstable and annoying than XP. I would only recommend Vista when PC games start exclusively using DirectX 10 features.

I actually figured out how to disable that thing (it was preventing a game from installing) but my brother made me turn it back on because he said it's more secure this way (I borrowed his PC so I'll live by his rules :p).

Yeah, but I don't care really, I've uninstalled and reinstalled sims before, they're just useless pictures of stuff. Nothing about family, and my mom always has pictures of Chi chi she can send me.
