Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox 360 owners will be able to download Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas from Xbox Live Marketplace.

The game will be available as an Xbox Original title on Monday, October 20 at a cost of 1200 Microsoft Points (roughly £10).

The game was originally released in 2005 and saw players assume the role of Carl Johnson (C.J.) as he battled corrupt cops and streetlife in early '90s America.

The greatest game of all time makes its way to Xbox Live. This would be awesome if I didn't still have the PS2 version. If Xbox originals had achievements I'd download it though.

Haven't played San Andreas in weeks. This makes me want to go and play that masterpiece again. Anyone who never had San Andreas I urge you to download this asap. San Andreas = pinnacle of gaming imo.

Spending £10 on a game you already own, especially one without any physical storage medium, just for the sake of Achievements isn't something I would ever contemplate, maybe if the achievements actually awarded you something or meant anything.

I own the PS2 version and going back to it after playing IV, while fun, is a painful experience when it comes to combat, controls and car handling.

Going from San Andreas to GTA IV is apainful experience. The drop in quality is unbelievable. San Andreas has better missions, better side missions, better weapons, better vehicles, a better map, more variety in everything about the game, a better soundtrack, its alot more fun to play both for the main game and for messing around, driving controls are also much better in san andreas. Ok I'm gonna stop there, I could go on forever. Basicly I think GTA IV is terrible in comparison to San Andreas. Very disappointing. Its a good game but it's not in the same league as San Andreas imo.

I think I'll stick with my physical version.

I don't like the idea of downloading games onto console hard drives, because if those consoles breakdown (which they inevitably will, sooner or later), there's a good chance that the hard drive will go with it too, destroying everything on it. My 10 year old PS1 games might be vulnerable to scratches, but at least they won't be wiped off the face of the planet if my console breaks down.

It is? Why would the HDD go down with the console?
Edit: You mean like when the console get's to 'old' and dies of 'natural' causes?

On the PS3, your downloaded games are saved to your playstation ID. ;)
So, even if your PS3 blows up in a nuclear explosion of some sort, you can redownload your games! :D

See, Sony thought this one through. ;)

Well, if a console breaks, and can't be repaired (if it's not under warrantly, the console's been discontinued, or the manufacturer simply can't repair it, for example), then the console and the hard drive obviously can't be used anymore.

Really? That is impressive. I'd still prefer a physical copy, though.

Same here.
I'd rather be holding it in my hands then knowing it's being stored on the internet. :o

It's the same for all 360 arcade games and XBOX Originals. Has been that way before the PS3 was even in the shops.

The best if probably Vice City and then Grand Theft Auto IV. Why would they make San Andreas online now?
