Hmm, I should be ok to run it. Although, I have a 8800GT graphics card, which I thought would be sufficient, but obviously you need a 9800 to enjoy the most out of it. Ah well, I'm sure I'll be fine. I don't even know if I'm getting the PC version yet or not.

Your controller will do fine.
They only write XBOX 360 controller, because the X360 is the source platform. :wve:

It should tell you why it failed after the scan is complete. Perhaps you have an older graphics card model which just happens to meet the listed requirements? It should run but it may be slower than newer models.

If you can play Crysis this will be a doddle ;-) & if you have an 8 series or ATI equivalent or higher you will be fine I'm sure.

As i said in a previous post (and I got trolled to death including hate messages lol) this game is a 360 special...see the irony that the minimum spec is based on a mouse & key board but the "recommended" spec is for the 360 controller lol. BTW thanks to those kind enough to send me supportive messages off line.

You definitely will. If I were you I would give me your PC and you could get another one.

Are you kidding? of course you could run underworld with everything on.

belter_21
22-10-08, 21:11
mine is 1440 x 900

should be absolutely fine - I meant higher than that...I have an 8800gt & it plays Crysis & Warhead at high settings with AA off..we have no worries with Underworld, save your money :)

Actually, it's Nixxes and if Legend was demanding just imagine Underworld. Seems like they could not do better this time to make it less demanding and still look great.
Still that would be to be able to run the game with everything on so people with a lower configuration might still run it.

I'm so getting a new card hehehe.

Actually, it's Nixxes and if Legend was demanding just imagine Underworld. Seems like they could not do better this time to make it less demanding and still look great.
Still that would be to be able to run the game with everything on so people with a lower configuration might still run it.

Thanks! I've always wondered but obviously never tried it and I always forget to google the answer :D.

I doubt you'd get an error message but it would be very slow and lag. There would a lot of graphical errors. It might crash if your system was pushed too hard as well, that may also cause damage to things like your graphics card if you keep playing over and over.

I suspect a lot of players - who meet minimum or who are just short of recommended - will be playing around with settings to find a happy medium though.

Thanks to you too :tmb:.

My graphics card for the most part is pretty buggered anyway plus I'm getting a new computer which will play Underworld with ease in a couple of weeks time so it was just out of curiosity and to see whether this computer'd be able to do anything remarkable in its last days.

I doubt I'd be able to run it well but I'll give it a go anyway.

So an 8800 is the real minimum these days?

8800 and above (and in some cases including the 7900 ones) are the recomended these days, the minimum would be 6800 GT cards, which were high end cards like 4 years ago. But 8600 GT/GTS can do pretty good and run the game at the highest settings in some cases, I've seen an 8600 GT 512MB run Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at the highest settings, no AA @ 1024x768, no frame rate issues at all.

It's rather odd that the reccomended card is the best card available on the market and nothing less. What's the point on releasing a game that will look it's best only for a small ammount of people who happen to have the best card released ever? :(

I tend not to believe those specs EVER tho. You can run great with less than the minimum and have a hard time with the reccomended, it depends the way the game is design.

It's odd to see it requires less free space than Legend tho.. I know Legend had both current and Next Gen (even tho Next Gen was badly ported), but considering Underworld is fully next gen and supposed to be a lot bigger...

I am staring at the recommended specs in disbelief. The recommended graphics card for Crysis was an 8800 GTS 640MB and that is quite a bit slower than a 9800 GTX/ HD 4870. It is looking as if this game is going to be quite demanding. I don't know how, exactly.

shadow_boy

do you say that it will support at least the 1024x768?:(

What I'm saying is that a 9800gtx card is recommended if you want to play the game looking great with high resolution but you can have a less powerful card and still be able to play the game with a decent resolution. Remember that Jay said a while ago that the PC version could be able to bet xbox360 and PS3 in graphics, hence the type of card needed. so maybe with the minimum requirements which are not that high IMO, the game will look just like the console versions or maybe a little less pretty.
It's obviously easier to have the minimum requirements than to have the recommended.
As of myself I was thinking in updating my PC but I wanted to wait for this game to come out before doing so. Now the problem is that I spend a lot of money on something else. I might be able to run the game on my laptop I just hope it's not too slow.

I run a Dell laptop and have been playing thru the game on it, so yes laptops can run games nowadays but you do need a decent one :)

As for someone stating the recommended specs are higher then some other games, remember that recommended is what we think is the spec of a machine that will run the game with everything maxed out giving the best possible gaming experience. The spec is then based on current hardware out there etc, the term recommended is a bit of a misnomer but its a standard so everyone uses it.

Wouldn't that be the Optimal Requirements then? Recommended would suggest something that'd give a good experience that wouldn't lag but still look relatively nice but not necessarily as good as it gets. Or something like that :p.

My PC does not actually meet the minimum requirements but I can tell you for sure that will run this game at least at medium settings :ton:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (OC to 2,2Ghz)
2gb RAM
Sapphire x1650 pro AGP 512mb

I will be waiting for demo, I'm pretty sure that I won't kick myself trying to lower graphics settings and loosing all the effects :jmp:

It runs Crysis on medium, Far Cry 2 medium (with some options on very high). I don't think Crystal Dynamics would make an engine with more demands than Cryengine or Dunia. We'll wait and see.
Anyway an 8800GT has the same performance as 9800GT, so 9800GTX is just a little more powerful than 8800GT (*8800GTS are way slower than 8800GT).
My Computer is pretty old but it doesn't yet make sense changing it if it still can run well new games.

With FX5500 the game simply won't start, and if starts you won't go further the menu.
GeForce 6200 is not for gaming, but at least with it you will be able to start the game, and may even play it at lowest settings ;)

6200 is better than FX5500, it may have only a little more raw performance but it does support Pixel Shader 3.0.

And only 8Gb of HD space?! I think it will be short now...

TRL had 9Gigs or 12Gigs of HDD Space

Major reason for TRL's size was the textures. It had HD textures and low end textures too. Now we only got HD textures, oh and the engine has vastly improved compression on them so they take up nowhere near as much as before without any loss to quality.

Looking purely at HD size for a game to give indication of length is never going to be accurate :)

Yes, with 2GB the game will run better. The game requires a recent VGA (graphic card), try to buy a new one (I recommend a ATI HD4850/4870).

I think the game won't run on Pixel Shader 2.0 videocards, but if they do, yes, the game will run very bad but most of all you will have flickering or missing textures which mean the game will simply not be playable on PS2.0 videocards.

With 2.0GB ram the game will run better, but not with higher fps, it will only allow you to have a constant and smooth framerates all the game (also the load times will be better).

yes ok, but if i buy another gb of ram, will it change something?
Not really, apart if you change your CPU and your graphic card too for something more powerful.

i don't know why my graphic card doesn't pass, it's ok no?
Your graphic card pass, not on the recommended requirements but definitely on the minimum ones ! :tmb:

Now it's up to you if you have no problem to run the game with the minimum settings only for now... And there's always the possibility for you to upgrade your componants later so you'll be able to push the settings of the game higher. ;)

'Recommended' means 'recommended to play fluently with max. settings' so there's no 'at least' here. :)

It's not a bad graphic card for gaming, but now it depends of the rest of your configuration too...

Thanks for answering my question!

My configuration is:

CPU - Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz
RAM - 2GB
HD - 320GB
OPERATIONAL SYSTEM - Windows XP Professional (SP3)

In fact (I guess), the only point where I need more is on the graphic card, don't you think so?

But, with all my configuration, what do you think now?

Meu amigo Lewis! :p Your computer is very good, but with your current graphic card, you will have to play the game in medium (I guess).

Yay finally the specs are out..

I run a Dell laptop and have been playing thru the game on it, so yes laptops can run games nowadays but you do need a decent one :)

As for decent laptop, what do you think about the Asus G1S? Should I be able to play it on highest settings, you think? Thanks!! :D

Only 256MB GFX RAM and not the best GFX after all. But medium should work fine, I think.

Ohh, mediumn only :( I thought I could of put all the effects On...

Oh well, I guess medium will still not lag at all and look good, cause my laptop seriously is The Beast! haha :D

Hm, I'm not 100% sure on this one, because IMHO the desktop components usually surpass their mobile equivalents, but it's pretty safe to say, you are closer to the recommended settings, than to the minimal ones. So you might at least set some of the settings to high.

I am wondoring how this game will support Crossfire. For example some games have up to 70% boost with the second card, but Crysis have none - so at this game second card is useless.

Were CrossfireX configurations tested, and how much more fps were with the second card installed?

I really hope that engine is optimized when we speak about performance and frames per second :P

Like Shinoda22 said, yes the only point to prevent you to reach the highest options is your graphic card. The rest is perfect.

I found this one graphics card at an affordable price for me here in Portugal:

Zotac Geforce 8800 GTS 512MB DDR3
http://www.chip7.pt/catalogo/detalhes_produto.php?id=16379
(it's in portuguese but you get the picture)

I hope it does ok for Underworld... I simply can't afford anything remotely close to the price of the Nvidea 9800 GTX that's recommended. :( So if something around this one isn't good enough I guess I'll just have to save some more money until I can properly play it!

I have the NVIDIA Geforce 9650M GS TurboCache. Is that good enough to play Underworld Perfect without lacking screens???

Or if needed: does any knows where i can get a NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GTX for a affordable price in Germany?? Or where i can ship it from???

That doesn't mean your graphic card is not good enough. The software actually associates the products, so when it's written 8800GT, you need to have a 8800GT to pass the configuration, or better. An NVIDIA 9650GS, is alright. It's as good as a 8600GT.... :D

Lol ! My graphic card fails to pass the test as well for the recommended requirements, and it's a 8800 GT ! :p
But I know the game will run smoothly on my pc anyway so that's ok. :)

I have a question about the CPU speed...

The mininum is 3GHZ. My laptop has 1.81GHZ, but it says 'performance rated at 3.66GHZ'. What does this mean?

Isn't your CPU a Dual Core? Because if it is, then you just add 1.81 plus 1.81, that is 3.62.

It's an approximated rate.

I assume a 9800GTX would be enough to play the game with everything on, including AA 16x.

Is anyone capable of providing some estimation of what graphics card would be required to play the game in 1280*800, with everything on except AA? CPU is a core 2 duo @2,4Ghz, 4 gigs RAM.

If you download the demo on the PC, does that mean the game itself will be the same, or does the Demo have different specs besides how much space it takes up?

I was wondering this too. It's really important to know this because then we'll know if the pc can handle the game or not.
