Does anyone think that Eidos will be taken over by Core Design like Crystal Dynamics did after Underworld?

I don't think that is a possibility.

It depends...
Their financial status has been pretty bad, so I see TRU as a last hope effort. If they don't make enough money from it, we'll probably see another company buy them off or something.
But that could just be rumors, I dunno.
A publisher can't be 'taken over' by a developer, let alone a developer that doesn't exist anymore.

Warner Bros will own Eidos. It's just a matter of time.

I thought SCI already owned EIDOS... so Warner Bros will own SCI, and all it's holdings???

I hope not as all the tomb raiders i think were better before Crystal Dynamics took over Core Design especially chronicles which is my favorite.

Really? :O
What will that mean for us? Any change to worry about?
it's time for hollywood trivia
Ahh the history of Eidos :)
Originally was Domark who merged with Eidos Technologies and became Eidos. Within the Eidos Group was Core Design and Crystal Dynamics.
SCi came along bought the EIDOS Group, and we became a PART of SCi.
Now we're changing things back to Eidos so no more SCi name.

If the xbox360 version goes very well, it might even become one of the daughters of Microsoft.

That's what I expect if TRU is a success. Otherwise I guess somebody will try to buy the good franchises - or buy SCi and cannibalize the company, which amounts to the same.
That could be a good thing though. Having Warner Bros, jumping in the game and giving full time, and money for the next Tomb Raider title is very very good. I guess it can only get better from here ;)

That's why I think Eidos want to limit the sale of shares until December. Once Underworld is proved successful, Eidos will be worth more.
@amiro1989: No, I don't think so. They'd probably milk the franchise to death - although I admire the Begins / Dark Knight treatment the Batman character got, so who knows.

...which in turn would be a safeguard against getting taken over - at least not without a handsome compensation for the top management. Good point.

Or worse, Microsoft.
True, but disappointing for sure. While it would certainly expand the life of Tomb Raider to indefinitely, I think the personal communication between the fans and Eidos would be shattered.

Good, but the question is: are you getting rid of SCi so you can merge with Warner Brothers or Microsoft? Both are massive companies that have taken a recent interest in Eidos.
Or is Eidos going to stand on its own two feet again?

Got my money on starbucks! :p

Yeah. I just hope that doesn't happen, but yeah I guess you're right about the Dark Knight. The game looks great.
I dont know why but I feel Eidos should tick it alone. TRU, Monster Lab, and Shellshock 2 all out this holiday season. I'm sure they'll cash cash in their pockets (I am looking forward to all 3 games).
The thought of WB buying out Eidos is a bit...freaky for me. I have a feeling later WB will regret it and ditch them (AOL/GameTap anyone?). :)

If Eidos/SCI aren't taken over soon, they'll most likely go bankrupt at some point...

This is very unlikely:)

It would be a little strange seeing Lara jumping and dancing with Looney Tunes or Mickey Mouse (or maybe... Wall-E?) :vlol:
I already see: "Lara Croft and Wall-E in the Fantastic Adventures of Red Planet" where Lara and Wall-E start their new adventures on the carrot planet, trying to kill the crazy big bunnies :vlol:
or
Get ready! Lara Croft gets married with Wall-E this summer! Stay tuned for the new Tomb Raider game where Wall-E searches for his ancient parents in the Shiva statue :vlol:
For me it does not matter who does the game if it's a good game, but with AoD it really felt that Tomb Raider formula has been broken by awkful controls and graphics, so I prefer Eidos to continue the game because it has released the best Tomb Raider games yet :)
For me, if Microsoft buys the game, it would be at least as good as it was with Eidos, because they take more care with games with traditionality (like Halo, Fable or Gears of War) and also they can test their games any time, so it would most likely be bug-free from the begining, and in many cases the games made by them offered great graphics at low system requirements.
I can imagine how good could look a Tomb Raider game using Gears of War's engine and having such low system requirements. The atmosphere from Gears of War matches perfectly with Lara exploring underworld.

LMAO! Lara next to the WB logo.. "That's all folks!" Eating a carrot, oh I'm loving this. :p

The Core Design staff and assets were taken over by Rebellion, neither Core Design nor Rebellion have anything to do with Crystal Dynamics which is a completely different games developer.

Ohhh
Too bad the name "Epic" is already used :( XD

Microsoft could buy Lara in attempt to make her exclusive to them, like drake is to sony. The games are constantly being compared so I wouldn't be surprised if they were at least a tiny be interested in buying Eidos.

Eidos taken over by Core?
Core doesn't exist anymore and a developer can't take over a publisher.

I personally think they should before Crystal's finances go into the sh*tter.

I'm sure The Eidos name will remain the same. And probably still the same people too. :)

That was smart on Sony's behalf. They've got Drake, what do they need Lara for now? Then Microsoft decided to steal Lara from Sony because having Lara and Nathan both...

I hope they keep themselves alive. But in worst case, Eidos, do not let yourself to be EAten

I really hate Crystal Dynamics Core Design was 100% better
Eidos is a wonderful company run by very smart and talented people, and I am sure they will continue to do well. TR U will be a big success I am quite sure from what I see in the demo, it is wonderful. It is a challenging time in creative production and publishing in any media, but I am hopeful that the good will survive. Each of the past creators of the TR games has done special things with the different titles, they all have their great points. I would venture to say this is one of the most unique and successful of any game series, if not the most, in terms of both sales and content and quality, far surpassing the cloned game series of other genres. And it looks like Eidos is going to keep advancing it with great artistry and style.
why Core was better than Crystal?
Warner Bros will own Eidos. It's just a matter of time.
yep. makes me wonder why Britain bothers with success, just a matter of time before a US giant nicks it

because they created a more variety of weapons and all their games were quite long like the Last Revelation which ahd something like 40 levels.

why feel sorry for us? we've gotten used to folks buying our successful stuff and passing it off as their own
coming soon Lara with new bio & accent....oh happy days indeed :(
Let me say something:
CD already got aquainteed with TR and the fans... it would take another company too long! maybe 3 games or so.
And I dont think I want to have another bio change! Too much:(
Personally I donīt like this thread remaining open. It gives somewhat indication that Eidos may be taken shortly....
