As a fan with an old PC, (Pentium 4 2.6Ghz with 512MB ram and Geforce 4 Ti Graphics card) I am feeling pretty neglected right now, :( as I canít even install the demo! :hea: However, this started me thinking, what spec machines are other people running the program on, and how is the game performing?

Don't claim random things like this, I never lie, it is the reality, here is the settings page :

And mind that I play the game at 1280x1024 ;)

Where do you get huge framerates ?
Did you update your card drivers ?
What's your exact reference model of your graphic card and CPU ?

AMD 3400 2.6Ghz 3 GB RAM 400 GB HD FX Nvida 7600, runs fine only thing i limit is anitaliasing and i can go to 4 but prefer the fps at 2 :)

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
4GB Ram
nVidia 8800GTX 768MB
1920x1200

Running full everything and seems fine (although I really can't see the difference between say 4xAA and 16xQAA)

raiderfun, I only have Low, Medium and High setting for textures (not Maximum), perhaps it's a translation thing?

Yeah I see , the translated french version shows : Minimum (Low), Medium (Medium) and Maximum (High), so it is only a small translation issue :p

I dont get huge framrates biggest framrate I getwhen I play it on max is 35fps and thats bad, and I updated my video card drivers, the model of my 8800gts is GYGABYTEs and the model of my CPU is Intel, I still dont get it, why is my framrate so low?

It might be more the user perception, so you might really notice lower frame rates whereas others don't. I don't think I'm particularly sensative.

35fps is way faster than TV for example (UK being 25fps).

Also, as pretty as the game is when you're standing around looking at it, when I play games, I rarely notice the quality of the graphics, I get into an older lower res game just as easily if the game play is good enough.

PS: I've dropped my Antialiassing to 4xAA because a) it does run smoother in some of the larger environments and b) as mentioned before, I really can't tell the difference. Even when standing around looking for it.

Oh god ! Common ! Are you kidding me ? The average FPS is 30 , more than that is smooth , and more than 60 is the best gameplay possible. But when you get slightly lower than 30 , it is still very playable, although you feel that the game doesn't run normally. ;)

Agreed :tmb: Personally, I am very sensitive to this :tmb: But the official main gameplays are the one I've just mentionned ;)

AA and Resolution will pwn your computer harder than any other setting. Drop that resolution down to something like 1024x768 and drop the AA either off or 2X and your framerate will jump to something more respectable.
Although, 35 is perfectly acceptable.

The reasons why your framerate suddenly drops can be legion. For instance, your hard drive may suddenly be requested -- by a virus scan program or an indexer that scans your disk for documents to speed file/folder searches. The motherboard architecture can be responsible for such drops also. Where you plugged your cards also matters.

Watch your hard drive whenever you see your framerate drop. It could be an indication some program starts using the disk.

A 3D game like this one is CPU intensive. If your CPU gets stressed then it has most chances to reduce the framerate. So watch for CPU intensive applications and shut them down before running the game.

I did a complete demo run with FRAPS benchmarking. This includes the cut-scenes, display settings to high with everything on with the exception of vsync and utilizing no AA.

My system:
Dual Core 2, 2.4 Ghz, 3Gb Ram
BFG nVidia 8800 GT OC (512Mb)
22" Monitor set at 1680 x 1050 native resolution
Vista 32-Bit Home Premium SP-1

FRAPS benchmark:
2008-11-09 11:20:15 - TRU
Frames: 75630 - Time: 1160716ms - Avg: 65.158 FPS - Min: 25 FPS - Max: 174 FPS

Thanks raiderfun. :) For comparison, I tried another run but now with 16XQ AA. I figured there would be a drastic FPS drop but actually there was not too much difference:

With no AA:
2008-11-09 11:20:15 - TRU
Frames: 75630 - Time: 1160716ms - Avg: 65.158 FPS - Min: 25 FPS - Max: 174 FPS

With 16XQ AA:
2008-11-09 14:43:13 - TRU
Frames: 49852 - Time: 935962ms - Avg: 53.262 FPS - Min: 16 FPS - Max: 170 FPS

Very true raiderfun -- probably involves a fighting scene too! And that would not be a good thing.

Anyway, I'm certainly not complaining, after all -- many have not even been able to run the demo yet!!!! I hope they are able to solve and/or upgrade their systems so they can join in the experience of TRU :tmb:

Yeah I hope so too !

And to all players who have nvidia cards (all of them in fact) : don't worry that much if you there's some slowdown when you get for the first time to a new area , because according to the "Readme" :

Low end nVidia hardware users may notice a slight stutter when first entering a location. This is a known issue with the current release of drivers (178.13). This should be addressed in an upcoming driver release.

In fact, I doubt this is realated to low end card users only, my card is good, though, I notice some very quickly slowdown when I get to a new areaas well . But don't worry guys, the future drivers will be fully compatible with TRU (as been said) :wve:

Oh really ? Thanks. Were you having this problem before installing the new drivers ? And how about now ?

I think I would better wait until the game's release, Nvidia may come up again with newer drivers, these slowdowns are not really bothering at all ;)

I don't seem to remember any slow downs when starting a new area.

Here are some of nVidia's comments concerning a few game performances with their latest Forceware 178.24 WHQL (released 15Oct08) drivers:

* Single GPU increases up to 11% in 3DMark Vantage (performance preset)
* Single GPU increases up to 11% in Assassin's Creed DX10
* Single GPU increases up to 15% in Bioshock DX10
* Single GPU increases up to 15% in Call of Duty 4
* Single GPU increases up to 8% in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
* 2-way SLI increases up to 7% in Bioshock DX10
* 2-way SLI increases up to 10% in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts DX10
* 2-way SLI increases up to 12% in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
* 2-way SLI increases up to 10% in World in Conflict DX10

I have:
Core 2 duo 2.0Ghz

YET, I can only run it fullish speed with EVERYTHING OFF...
If its so high and surpasses the recommended stuff, why is it SO slow??

Nope, it doesn't surpasse recommended config, you're graphic card is considered as low-end card, even if it's from serie 9, its performance are low.

Plus, you're cpu speed is 2.0 and not 2.2, but that's only a small unnecessary detail :p

And as we have always been saying, laptop aren't designed for gaming ;)
