View Full Version : Gamereactor gives Tomb Raider Underworld an 8, says it's the best TR in 10 years
The November issue (#62) of Gamereactor gave TRU its lowest score yet: 8/10 -- but goes on to say that it's "the best Tomb Raider adventure in over 10 years." Visit this NeoGAF thread (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=13569982&posted=1#post13569982) to get the list of review scores for the issue. Scans will have to be coursed through someone who is subscribed to Gamereactor. Issue 62 is (of course) not among their free online selections.

This is getting me excited lol. I'm glad they've said that after how great Anniversary was. This is on the next gen console after all, I'm on about the PS3, so only 11 days to wait! 10 for me since I always get it a day before thanks to 1st Class P&P.

Why do I doubt it's going to be better than Tomb Raider III?
TR3 was too hard for me with limited saves and all. Checkpoints are more my thing.

And the savegame crystals make harder the game on PS. :) The hardest, longest, biggest TR game ever :D

I liked tr 3 i didnt find it that hard thouhg, i just loved the variety of places one min u were in london (my home hehehe) then all of a sudden u were in the antartica (lost city of tinnos wicked level) it was awesome:jmp:

I read an XBox360 review that gave it 4/5. Having read the comments in the review in particular, especially the run down on how this game trumps Legend at every turn, has filled me with a lot of hope.

I heard a little while ago them saying it was the best TR game in a long time so I was hoping for a higher score, since they gave TRA 8, Iīm guessing they had problem with the camera and glitches :(. Hopefully I wonīt have problems with the camera since I didnīt in TRA, regardless Iīm pretty sure I will give TRU more than 8 since I gave TRA that and TRU still seems a lot better than that game, which Iīm not even sure deserves an eight.

The crystals were genius. Checkpoints are not bad either. Video games become much more easier when you can save anytime you want.

Its not. Most reviewers don't have a clue about what TR fans like, and what's essential for a real TR game. So whenever they make any kind of reference to the classic games I just stop listening.
Video games become much more easier when you can save anytime you want.
Having the ability to save anywhere has the opposite effect on me. Sometimes I get so engrossed in the game I forget about randomly saving until its too late lol. I'm perfectly fine with it though as it goes along with the trial and error nature of the earlier games.
With the checkpoints Crystal is bascially telling you "psssst, there is a tough part coming up. don't worry though, we got yo back".:o This is something that I REALLY HOPE will be made optional (along with the grab and safe jump animation) in the next game.
I want as much control over the game as possible. Putting these options in TR9 would go a long way in accomplishing that.
not in 10 years but it'll be one of the most interersting games in 2008 :tmb: very positive :cool:

That is my favorite quote from any Tomb Raider game ever! My second favorite is:

I doubt it can beat The Last Revelation. Actually, I don't think any future Tomb Raider game will be able to surpass the first four classics. They're just... classic. :p
Well it does look pretty darn good.
And I'm celebrating by re-buying all the classics on PS1 (since I never owned 4/5 and 1-3 have disappeared/been traded in over the years) so I can play them all. :D
I've never finished them all the way through either, so now's my chance to try.

I'm waiting until Christmas, because it seems as though its really short and to me the demo was boring/linear. Not really a game worth spending 60$ on IMO.
Does anyone have scans of the issue?
