View Full Version : Did anyone know Yahoo! bought Altavista?

When Yahoo! bought the technology of Overture some time ago, they also added search engine Alta Vista into the shopping trolley. I had no idea... Since I doubt many people use MSN as a serious search engine, it's now up to Yahoo! to topple Google - who recently announced GoogleMail with 1GB storage per email account. Wow!

I read that earlier today. Who in their right mind has 1GB worth of email anyway? :D Google will clean up if these specs are realised. ABOUT GMAIL (http://www.google.com/gmail/help/about.html)

I'd be happy with 10Mb...

I'd be happy with spam free email. That's all I ask. I'm interested to see how Google are going to tackle spam. Yahoo! is hopeless. (Read: H.O.P.E.L.E.S.S) - I never asked for the Bulk Mail folder they gave me, nor did I ask for my Spam Filter to be turned on. Yet... as if on cue, as soon as these features were enabled... spam arrived in herds!!! MSN Hotmail offer a feature to deny ALL email other than that from listed recipients. Maybe Google has another trick up its sleeve?

Yeah, as soon as I reactivated my Yahoo, it gets 20 spam emails a day, yet my Hotmail never gets any, and I dun have the security up at all...

i used to use a mail site called http://www.mailblocks.com which was designed to reduce spam , by if someone sent u a e mail and u had not e mailed them first or if this was the first e mail the mail box had recieved from the sender then it would send out a automatic response to that sender asking them to fill in a verification key , just so that the systems knows your a person and not a computer http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Microsoft plan to reduce spam over the next two years. 50% of email is unsolicited. I spend more time sifting through spam that I do replying to email, and I'm frequently changing my personal email addresses. Spammers should be hung, drawn and quartered, then fed to pigs.

Yep, I had used another hotmail before that, but it wasnt very original hehe, so I came up with the only username I never have to worry about being taken sobekeus...

I used it to register at SOE in Sept 2001 too...

I dun make a secret of my email either, its usually readily available to anyone who wants it...

What does the username mean? IS THIS ALL YOU? (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=sobekeus&btnG=Google+Search)

And that is just under that name hehe...

Yes those are all me...

Sobek is the Egyptian crocodile god, Sobeke is another spelling, but both were taken but one of the suggestions (Hotmail's no less) was Sobekeus, the 'us' standing for United States...

Im also known as ActiveX, Malcolm Reynolds, Lysandor, Dubar Raven, Chainfall, Am Shaegar, and more that I've probably forgotten by now...

This is the only place I am known as Draco...
