hi anyone who knows the tech side of our TR series...

I installed the supposedly XP tweaked version, says so on the lid of the CD case. but it wont run, even with compatabilty ..so i loaded up the super patch, and set it, and it runs fine...
but

the load screens are triplicated and fractured thusly...

http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/6176/screenzb3.jpg

is there a fix that anyone knows about?

I am running XP SP2 on an AMD 3400 2.6 ghz, 3 GB RAM, 400 GB hard drive, FX 7600 GT with 256 RAM :) thanks for any hints if anyone has em,

a mod in the main section has the same problem ....both of us can run the game fine otherwise. it is a cosmetic thing, but i would love to see the load screens :) thanks

1. Run Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) and post the report.

2. What resolution have you set for TRC?

3. Ensure that if you install the Multipatcher the Compatibility mode is off.

hi and thanks for the fast reply

I had thought about the resoltuion I have been playing TR IV at

1024 x 768 siccessfully and no probs there with that game on the load screens.

yes i checked the compat is off, on both the shortcut and the exe in the install. It was NOT before, i did have it set on Compat when i was trying to run the game before patching but it seems to be off now.

Should i reinstall?

I attach most of the log below, I deleted some things that are not relevant and or are things I do not think safe to share on an open forum like the ID's

but here is the main amount of the log...

I updated the vid to 178.24, but decided not to update the Audigy 2ZS driver as it works fine and the new dirver requires a DVD player driver update and i just got my dvd player working correctly and auto play reworking after a long battle of dysfunction. I enclose the programs running below and appreciate any suggestions. As i posted this fracutred load screen does not seem to impair the game at all, i did have some trouble with the remapping of the keys resetting between plays but i hope that will not be an ongoing difficulty. we will see. thanks for any help or ideas on this.

2. Consider disabling PC-tools antivirus and Tages copy protection before running TRC.

3. i did have some trouble with the remapping of the keys resetting between plays but i hope that will not be an ongoing difficulty.
Do you have Administrator rights on your PC?

4. Set your monitor Refresh Rate to 100Hz instead of 120Hz.

CrisGer

thank you very very much. appreciate the help a lot

ok i am going to use auto run now, and yes i do have admin rights on my PC i am the only user.

I thought maybe i had started the game from the disk and the save game not working feature had reset my control choices...i will try the refresh rate change too. :) thanks so much for the help. will report back shortly.

Yup, if 100Hz doesn't help, try reducing even more... 85 and 75 Hz. But AFAIK must work fine on 100Hz.

CrisGer
21-11-08, 19:44
nope sorry no joy. I tried reducing to 100 hz but still same fractured load screens, i tried lowest resolustion for desktop first, , and default resoultion in game, still same. sigh. Tried with PCTools and Spybot off. I dont know how to turn off TagesCopy Protection, did not know it was running?

i tried speed down to 60, and also reducing screen resolution way down, and or not trying to re set the game resoltion at all in the pop up screen, which shows up sometimess but not others.

ah well, thanks for helping me shut down some remnant things running on the start menu :)

i will fiddle with the settings some more. it is odd as i had no trouble at all with TR IV. should i un install and re install? do you think when the patch moved things to the backup patch folder it somehow moved the original load screens and replaced them with compressed ones?

Mytly was the mod who has it too....said....

Hmm, I have the same problem. IIRC, it started after I patched the game. Is that the case with you as well? If so, you could try un-patching (ie. reinstalling the game), but that will probably cause the game to suffer from other problems. If it's just the load screens you want to look at, you can simply download them from here.

it is quite odd, and as i said, one of the other mods on this forum has it too.

:)

thanks for the help.

Try the following:

1. Completely uninstall TRC.
2. Use TRRC (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/trrc.exe) to clean old TRC settings.
3. Reboot your PC.
4. Install TRC from your CD. Don't install any patches!
5. Try running unpatched TRC without and with Win98 compatibility mode.
6. If pos.5 fails theturn compat mode off and run Multipatcher (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/vista/patch.html), but not any other patch. Then try TRC again.

hooray i will :) thanks for sticking with me in this, as i am determined to get to do it right if poss

i wondered if there might be a bad set of disks that were pressed that have actually fractured load screens in the folder that loads them..but i dont know how to open up the game files....or if that is even ok to try to do....

i am a stickler for honouring the Eulas of life. :)

so i will try the un in stall etc.

this is very interesting and i am glad to learn

and appreciate the help a lot,.
chris

EscondeR

that have actually fractured load screens

Not your case definitely. By sympthoms it's video drivers/refresh rate/patching issue, not the game content one.

CrisGer
21-11-08, 20:40
HOORAY!!!!

you fixed it :)

i am very happy.
it works great. I cleaned out the registery and deleted eveything and all the old files and the folder from the previous install re installed and it works perfectly.

thanks so much.

i am wondering now, should i even reset the resolution and the things on that pop up screen that gives us options? is 32 bit that much better than 16 bit? and does it make a difference to pick any of the check boxex?

I want the very best graphics possible for my system, can you give me any hints as to what settings to use to get that?

i ask because I started the game up with the default resoltuion and settitggs and the videos and the game itself look fine, even possibly better than when i repeatedly reset things to start every time with TR IV...

thanks gain

happy me :)

Game is still running fine from the disk, with each start up and save games work fine. Only problem is that i cant set resoution any higher, it will allow me to set TExture Bit Depth to 32 RGBA 8888, Hardware Acceleration and Volumetric FX but i cant increase the resoltion from 640 x 480 16 bit or the game wont start. I can select my Sound Card also. I just love the ambient sound effects in Rome this game is remarkable.

If anyone knows a workaround for the resolution restriction, i would be interested, as i like the very best graphics detail as i can but i am not sure what does what in this engine.

^ You need to start from HDD (Start > Programs > Core Design > Tomb Raider Chronicles > Play game), not from the game disc or Autorun menu.

CrisGer
24-11-08, 01:09
ok, will do. Much appreciated. :) So put disk in drive but dont start when the disk called up the start screen. Shut that down and go to the main exe via a shortcut :) will do

CrisGer
24-11-08, 02:45
Nope that did not work

I sent to start -Core-Chronciles and set up, set the 32 bit resolution at
1024 x 768 and then to OK

game would not run

Went to Start - Core - Chronicles and Set Up but did not click ok, i closed without saveing the higher resoution.

Went to the C Drive Programs Core and the exe..it starts but same old 16 bit and no high resoution

no way to use the higher resoutions on the Set up menu......

i am ok with it, just wondered...

i suppose i might try the patch but i just think I will stay at this low level, at least i can set the 32 Bit RGBA 8888 and Volumetric FX

I was just curious why i could set the higher rez with TR IV and not with V, with the unpatched game. :)

the only diff was that i had patched IV. :)

EscondeR

the only diff was that i had patched IV. :)

Yup.
So is the TRC engine, unpatched may work with limitations, patched causes glitches sometimes - it's the matter of what you need more, resolution or smoth screens/cutscenes.

CrisGer
24-11-08, 16:12
ah, thanks
i will settle for better cut scenes, they are really lovely :)thanks again for al the help, i am learning a lot and I appreciate it. :)
