View Full Version : Serious crashing to desktop!

OK I have ..
Q6600 overclocked to 3.2 Ghz
2 GB RAM
Nvedia GTX 260.. up to date drivers
Win XP pro 64 bit

This is seriously bugging me as I have more than the recommended spec and it is crashing to desktop with the usual Microsoft error screen or a fatal error screen
I have reduced my settings and it still is happening.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Possible reasons of crashes:

1. Illegal TRU - not supported here!

2. Overclocked CPU.

3. CD/DVD-emulation software installed and running (see pos.1)

4. Disabling DEP (http://www.tombraiderwiki.com/index.php/DEP) service can help.

Faulty RAM can also contribute to crashes or even BSODs

My TRU game was purchased from GAME this morning so that has to be ruled out.

Nothing wrong with my overclocked CPU, I have run it on Prime64 for a considerable time for stability.

Disabling DEP completely is too drastic a measure! it is disabled for all but essential services.

SO anyone else got any suggestions for me please..:)

Just a note I can run Crysis with very high graphics with no problems whatsoever so this should not be a problem either!

As with my OC my RAM has been fully tested too.

i have 4 gb of ram. And my TRU crashes on my 64 bit windows. As well as every single game I have :( WHile on my normal xp windows (I use 2) which can use only 2gb of my 4gb of ram - it runs perfectly. Either games dont like 64 bit windowses (oh thats except for aassassins creed (BTW photoshop hates mt 64 bit windows too - but photoshop doesnt support it. maybe tru is liek that too)) or I should trust my brother when he told me that I have somehow messed up my 64 bit windows

Red_Rain

My 64 bit os is unusually stable, i do not have any issues with it at all apart form Internet Explorer that crashes from time to time.

Right now I have
Cryis, , TRA, TRL, Spore and many more game working with no crashing at all.
It's just this one particular game. :)

1. If you have everything perfect, and you know better what to do, then why asking here?.. :mis:

2. Try disabling DEP anyway.

3. Update your video driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_180.48_whql.html).

I'm just telling you as it is, even as a qualified IT technician as I am I do not have all the answers, that is why we come looking for help with people who have more experiance in gameing technology !

I have the driver update thanks.:)

You cannot disable hardware DEP or exempt 64-bit applications running on 64-bit Windows XP systems with DEP compatible processors. (unless you have found a way that I do not know about)

Piega

I also had 4 crashes in Vista 32 bit. Nothing overclocked, original game. Legend crashes more in Next Gen, luckily the game can be finished.

Latest drivers and such. I guess a patch will come but maybe not as there are not many bugs in my opinion.

Have you tried THIS (http://www.tombraiderwiki.com/index.php/DEP)? :p
BTW, to disable DEP on hardware level look into your PC BIOS Setup, but the method I've linked to is enough actually.

Besides you don't have the latest driver according to your diagnostic report.

but I can not play this demo ,and I have tried everything so dont ask me have I downloaded the latest anything because I have I have done the DEP thing and there is no difference,,so ****ing annoyed I downloaded to my old pc that has xp 32bit and it plays like a dream I'm just telling you as it is, even as a qualified IT technician as I am I do not have all the answers, that is why we come looking for help with people who have more experiance in gameing technology !

I have the driver update thanks.:)

You cannot disable hardware DEP or exempt 64-bit applications running on 64-bit Windows XP systems with DEP compatible processors. (unless you have found a way that I do not know about)

Since I posted that report I updated my drivers to the latest ones.
And if you noticed it does not even detect that I have TRU installed.

"/NoExecute" does not exists in win XP 64 bit. If I put it in my system crashes.

Here is my latest diagnostic report.

^ Sorry, there is a new Diagnose.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/diagnose.exe) available - 3.0 TRU compliant. Please rerun and edit your post with new report.

About DEP: NoExecute key works in WinXP x64.
Is your XP x64 legal?
Can you post the contents of your boot.ini file?

After some serious goggling I managed to get enough info to disable DEP hardware and software for 32bit applications. ( did not help still crashes periodically).
Yes my Windows XP professional 64 bit Operating System is legal.
Here is my new diagnostics report.
I do apreciate your help even though my manner might sound sour. :)

did not help still crashes periodically.

Well... this is still a TRU problem - crashing on x64, let's hope it'll be solved with the patch.

Red_Rain
24-11-08, 11:51
Yes so do I, as it is spoiling what is a exceptionally good game. :)

jaywalker
24-11-08, 11:57
We definitely didnt see any issues when we ran it on 64bit XP..

EscondeR
24-11-08, 12:17
I doubt I can find a WinXP x64 machine (or make one soon), but I'll try on Vista x64 tomorrow.

Red_Rain
24-11-08, 13:28
I'm going to drop my overclock a tad see if that improves things.;)

Red_Rain
24-11-08, 16:08
Well, I pulled my overclock back down to system default just to rule it out and it still crashed.
I'm certain it is not my graphics card as I can play Crysis on full whack and have no problems with it at all!

RAM has been tested with MEMTEST and that is fine too.

So the only thing I could do is to re-install the game, but I do not think that will fix it either as it is an intermittent problem.

jaywalker
24-11-08, 16:10
Is it crashing on launch? or just randomly whilst in game?

Red_Rain
24-11-08, 17:45
Well mostly on game load, at start of a new session of playing or during game play when Lara dies and re-loads.

Red_Rain
27-11-08, 16:20
Before anyone thinks I have an illegal copy here is my diagnostics file with the origanal tru.exe file in it.

Does it still crash playing it with the original exe and the disc?
yes but I have finished the game now, but I will ask my son how he gets on with it as he is playing it.

Do you get an error dialog or message?

I do. "Corrupt texture data passed into PCTexture constructor!"

This can happen anytime, in both the TRU Demo (stand alone and from Steam) and the full game (Steam).

System is self build:
Intel Core2 Quad 9550, GA EP45-3SDL mobo, 4 x 2g PC2-800 ram, BFG 8800GTX OC 768meg @ x16, 1 HD WD 1.0 TB SATA, XP Pro x64 SP2. No other OS installed.

I've not had the stability problems many others have had with x64. I ran it on my old X2 4800+ rig since public beta time and M$/CryTek offered x64 "Free" with AMD64+FarCry. This is a new rig with a new X64 (disk with key in DVD case, from Microsoft Store)

Video driver is nVidias current 180.48 WHQL for x64

TRA Demo and Full don't have this problem. Just TR Underworld, Demo and Full.

And that 'diagnostic.exe' returns inaccurate information in several areas. Got a new one? :D

McG.

This `corrupt texture data` is a total new one on me.. never heard of that error before..

K try reducing your sound hardware acceleration within DXDIAG tool under the `audio` tab. We'll hopefully get a permanent fix for this in the patch, but this will temporarily hopefully let you play the game until patch is released.

"Corrupt texture data passed into PCTexture constructor"

This is one of my main problems too... but my son has not reported any crashes whilst playing it on this PC, however he has not played it for very long.

guess if hes got it `playing` then hes past the texture data bit..

if u are a xp have u tried dropping sound acceleration?

OK Ill'' do that when my son returns to this PC to play the game.
