View Full Version : Why TR9? Shouldn't it be TR10?

Lemme get this straight :o

We have TR 1 through 5 (aka Chronicles)...followed by AoD (TR6), then Legend (TR7) then Anniversary (TR8) and finally, Underworld (TR9).

Why is everyone referring to the next (yet to be made) game as TR9? Isn't Underworld already TR9?

Confused

Anniversary was a remake. Just like the Gold levels were never given a numerical suffix.

During development, Underworld was always referred to as Tomb Raider 8.

I think its because ANNIVERSARY was a celebration/remake, rather than an actual seperate game so its not really classed in the main tomb raider series.

Well.

It could be argued whether Anniversary was really a remake or a "re-imagination." But I won't argue that point as IMHO, you're right. :)

Alas, TR The Fifth Artifact was technically a stand-alone game... so Underworld should really be TR10 and the next game TR11. :cln:

Right, right... it's all semantics and rather pointless, so I'll stop. :)

Don't forget about the 3 Gameboy color/advanced games... so it's actually be TR14 lol.

It was just easier to call TRU tr8.. so following that logic next one is TR9.. and i've already made the folder that name on my server, and i aint changing it :)

Haha we're just messing with you, don't worry. I thought it should have been counted as a "new" Tomb Raider also. Don't feel bad :)

Actually I've been curious about this too.
Like, if TRA didn't fit into the TR storyline (which it does fit in with the new bio and all), then we are supposed to just think Oh crap it's Natla randomly in TRU with no previous indicators!

Anniversary was a full game and ties into Legend's story, so I count it as TR 8 and Underworld as TR 9.

Anniversary was thought to just be a spin-off so we called it TRA and Underworld TR8. Now we know it's important to the storyline but it's a bit too late now lol

Anniversary was a remake.

Was Anniversary really a remake or just lack of ideas of Crystal Dynamics, cause it really wasnt a pure remake after all?

it was meant to tie the story of legend and underworld

Oh? I thought it was suppose to be a remake of TR1.
But what you said now, made it sound even more what i just said: lack of ideas of Crystal Dynamics.

one min wasnt TRA one in a trilogy, TRL, TRA, TRU, therefore, its not just a remake as TRU had TRA involved into it, and the storyline was changed to fit the trilogy, and if TRA is part of the trilogy, then it is TR8, therefore tru should be TR9

Well if Crystal and Eidos have officially referred to Underworld as Tomb Raider 8 then I still don't understand why this debate is still going on. :pi:

Ohh, it's not because of anniversary... it's because Eidos is trying to forget AoD, and thus, officialy, it doesn't count :D

Nope. AoD is still a Tomb Raider game. It's TR 6.

I call that post: bashing Crystal for no reason.

Well, I have a proposal... let's just assume Eidos would like to forget everything made by Core and start over. That would mean TRL = TR1, TRA = TR2 and TRU = TR3. Thus, the next game will be TR4 and will be Crystal Dynamics' last revelation. ;)
