Having watched the ending for TRU today it got me thinking about Excalibur. Lara took it with her, so would this mean it will be usable in the next installment?
If so, would we all be happy with it, or will it just become a gimmick?

I hope so...
i'm actually hoping for the next game to take a look at Excalibur and Thor's hammer, maybe going back to show where they were made and by who...
personally, with the 'gods' storyline that seems to be prevelant in Tomb Rader games lately, i'm expecting the next one to be based around Greek mythology and actually bring Zeus' lightning bolt into the mix...
or maybe something with Egyptian mythology to go further back with Ra and Anubis...

That'd be funny.
I prefer if it would be placed in her museum, together with the scion, dragger and all the other artefacts she found during the series and took home. Perhaps they can use it as a secret in the next Croft Manor level (which the next game will hopefully have) so you can swing it around at Winston if he refuses to stay in the freezer. But usable in the next game as weapon? I prefer not, it's to powerful, leave it in her museum and maybe as bonus in her next house.

heeehee. I thought that was a little funky. Like, we spent the entirety of Legend putting this sword together and using it to open a portal to Avalon, and then suddenly in TRU it's like "quickly! let us use this random sword and this random portal!"
I really don't care much for Excalibur. Thor's Hammah was much more epic. Like *bang* "LARA SMASH!!! LARA SMAAAASH!!!!" *zap* "Lara kill you!!!"
For me it would have to be the Hammer as opposed to Excalibur. The Hammer was a decidedly tasty little weapon. Now that would be a good unlockable and worth having.

In my honest opinion, the Excaliburs should stay preserved along with Lara's other artifacts (assuming they were not destroyed in the fire). Lara has not used any of the artifacts from the preceding game into a new one. She never used the scion, dagger, infada artifacts, etc in the following games. I don't think she would start now. I'd be happy just seeing it as an easter egg in some sort of security case, or dissassembled like the Scion in the TR3 mansion.
Its time to move onto newer and better artifacts.
I just want to know how Excalibur showed up all the sudden at the end of the game... Lara didn't bring it in with her.:confused:

Now I get why there are two - The one that Lara found in Legend and the one that she found in Underworld are two separate Excaliburs...

Maybe with two there could be an actual sword fight instead of a "wave the big glowing magic wands around" competition like the end of Legend....
Although I really do hope the Hammer makes a reappearance: It's easily the best weapon Lara's had so far, closely followed by the sticky grenades!
I think that it'd be cool if there was a last level based in Lara's new manor like in TR2 where if you liked you could run and get the big momma(a.k.a Thor's hammer) and send a few gordforsaken Mafia guys flying through the air. :whi:
But other than that do not have it in the main game as (in case you forgot) its Lara and her guns lol:p
The worst part of underworld was after you got the hammer, it just gets boring...I mean more so...there's no enemy thats going to get with in 50 feet of you where's the challenge? The game jumps the shark after that point, to start off with an uber weapon would make it even more pointless, I think we should be going after a non offensive artifact for the next one...

Maybe it could be unlockable. Rewarded for something like, completing the game or finding all secrets/treasures.
I'd rather it in her house then usable...or just usable in her house...I mean it would be gimmiky to have in the levels:)

Lara tooK Excalibur home at the end of Legend, did you get to use it for anything in TRU? Having 2 swords now is not going to make it any more likely, they will probably be displayed on a wall some where at home. Maybe Crystal Dynamics will have one as an unlockable weapon.

I do not think Excalibur will return in TR9, no. As Aussie said it wasn't availabe in TRU, so why should it be any different in the next game?

They mentioned in legend that there were more than one sword. King Arthur had one and the last queen of tiwanaku had a "staff" (probably a sword) that
you used to get to Avalon.

Yes, but I meant in gameplay. It wasn't available as a weapon.

^ I'm pretty sure we won't see Thor's hammer in the next game. It went down in the blue goo with Natla.
