I know that most of us (like 99.9% of us), wants a new engine, that comprise an all-interactive world, with huge levels, and probably a more realistic graphic engine.

I think that for the graphic engine we can still stick to what CD have made, overall. They just need to work on the character models, to make them more realistic, cuz otherwise I think it's pretty good looking, but what if they wanted a new graphic engine as well? What could be a good choice?

CryEngine 2:
9gsIzP9s_t0
The best of the best. CryEngine 2 is definately the best graphics engine of all time, but it's not suitable for every computer, or every platforms. I heard that they were working on a platform version of this engine, and that it can be purchased for 500,000 bucks, or something like that... But I think it can be worth it. Really. Crysis is probably the most impressive, visually, gameplay wise, and AI wise. It's definately a very interesting engine, and CD should definately take a look at it.

Unreal Engine 3:
-m4pe6UAS2M
Probably the most popular engine for next-gen consoles, out there. I think everybody here know Unreal Tournament 3, or Gears of War 1/2. It's one of the best graphics engine out there.

Source Engine:
n-Bn-Z3cEfE
This is the graphics engine used in Half-Life 2 trilogy, and Left 4 Dead. It has probably the most human looking character ever created in video-games. It could be great to see Lara take a dip into this...

White Engine:
http://guillaumedhy.zevillage.org/images/Final_Fantasy_XIII.jpg
This is the engine used by Final Fantasy XIII, and FF versus 13. The graphics are said to be amazing, and probably one of the best looking in-game wise.

But I think that what could be very interesting is the Euphoria Engine. If CD doesn't want to use another graphics engine, they definately should use this physics/AI engine. It's just like real-life. It's so amazing, and it could provide something completely new to Tomb Raider, REACTIONS to the ENVIRONMENTS.

I want the engine where you shoot at trees and they collaps and when you thro grenades at the they catch on fire and creat a chain reaction...and also climbing on everything and holes in rock when you shoot at it and then debree flies.

oh but I do like the graphics shown for final fantasy thirteen, they should seriously release that game already...I've been waiting since 2006....maybe CD should put that much effort into a game.

All of those engines look great. As long as they change it to something better, then I'll be happy.;)

Cryengine, Unrealengine, sourceengine, Gamebryo (fallout 3) engine are definitely ok with me since games made with them usually works very well with stereoscopic 3d! :D
Don't know about euphoria and white engine though. Everything when making gameengines is not only what they're capable of. It's also a lot about performance and optimization in code to achieve better results. Sure you can implement a like realworld experience but the cost of hardware (yet) will be too huge. It's a balance and the way to a lifelike gameenvironment is not here (yet). :D
Interesting news though!
I love the way cryengine works in crysis. Sometimes it's just fun ruin all ammo on the trees! lol!

so, you want the cryengine 2(crysis) combined with the dunia engine (far cry 2):D

I think they should get the cryengine. It's the best looking one and would definitely make TR the best franchise out there.

I doubt they'll get license an engine considering all the time they put into making this one for TRU. There's even some things in there engine that aren't present in those that were mentioned.

I have to disagree with you.:)
Like everytihng else in underworld,it has its flaws(like shadows),but overall its fantastic.how do you think Cry engyne would look if they had one year (or two) to make it?Considering the time CD had,the engyne is really,as good as it can be...:)

I love the White Engine!
The hair look amazing!
BTW,Tomb Raider doesn't need a superb graphics engine,but a great physics one.

You guys, these are first person shooter games. lol!

If Lara is in the cry2 engine then it will be unplayable:)

Far cry 2 engine is heavily based on first person shooter.

you guys we need assasins creeds, not the graphics but the AI.

AI IS SO IMPORTANT, gives lara the realism to freely interact with anything if the AI is just like assassins creeds.

They shouldn't be preoccupied with detailing the body until the nuts and bolts are fastened securely, the motor is tuned up properly, the wheels are aligned and the drive train is sound. If they are going to produce a new engine, they ought to focus on the nuts and bolts of the game play and return to what made the game truly unique and challenging.

And as a side note, if they ever turn Lara into Japo-anime character (like the one that is shown above) that's when I give up on all new gaming. The new gamers (aka gaming challenged morons) can have it all then... ;)

I think the Legend engine is pretty good. It's just that TRU was a bit of a rush job. There's no way it was complete considering all the glitches in the game.

I say CD polishes up that engine. They were a very top notch dev company graphics wise until they started getting rushed.

TRU is great guys...
I'm not wanting to change the game...

But to profide me with a download, for one of these engines... WOW..
I really wish we can use one of these in order to make other games...

Is there any change i can download a demo or a Trial of one of these product???
So i can test it out???

Including Underworld something like 5 games are being made with the CDC engine, Eidos Montreal are already polishing it up a bit more for the next Deus Ex game. Crystal Dynamics have another game in development just 12 months behind Underworld. Between the 2 studios and Nixxes the engine should get plenty of polishing even if only 2-3 years are spent on each game.

Exactly! Which is why I was essentially disappointed...

CryEngine 2 merged with Euphoria would make a phenomenal tomb raider IMO. Playing around with what these engines have to offer could lead to something really big.

CD THOUGHT tomb raider underworld was big,I like the idea of them licensing and then editing the engines to fit a tomb raider game....but make it more believable and less go here to get to here and then grapple that ring to go here.I swear in underworld I moved the random block in xibalba to a ledge and then grappled a ring hook and moved to force the block off the ledge but I did not move the second I was behinde the block my grappel came back to me....improvments please

This thread is dedicated to the idea of getting a new engine.. that's its subject. If we want to talk about the story or locations, I'm sure there is another thread out there. Meanwhile, let's continue.. Sorry for sticking on topic :tmb:.

Would CryEngine 2 even run on current consoles or is it truly next gen?
And by 'next' I mean PS Fore and Xbox Getting Dizzy (or whatever they'll be called).

Also, where is the information coming from that the Underworld engine isn't new?
Is this based on anything more than personal observation of the game?
