View Full Version : Realism
Hi, I want to talk about realism in the series, I should say that in TRU there wasnt much realism scnce CD left many polygons empty, and didnt detail much into the models of each and everything! They said that they were going to make this the best detailed Tomb Raider yet, they achieved that scince its next - gen!
Though the amount of polygons and mass in the world wasnt alot! They left many polygons empty in the creatures because when we move something or move Lara on to the object nothing happens! The creature lies still with no reaction from it! Lara just goes into it and thats it, we dont see it move or some blood sprays out! When fighting teh Kraken there was no reaction from it it didnt scream or even feel pain untill we dropped the 5 ton spike thing on it, but...oh yea that as in a cutscene!
Next time add detail and realism to everything! i dont want to see a part of Lara just magically go through the object!!;)
Work hard on TR9 and i promise you, you will not fail! Ask us, consider our suggestions!

Or let's not forget the Lizards that we can push/pull the mirror thing through when the 2 beams of light appear from Khali's hands. Spoooky
Or the panthers we can drive our motorbike through.
So much for "mind-bogglingly-detailed"

What are you talking about?
When Lara swims/runs she'll slow down because she gets tired. The panthers could kill the poachers and vice versa, she shunned away from the flames because it felt hot near them, when you swam to the bottom of the sea everything wasn't immediately in view

There are parts (as already mentioned) that made the game more realistic, and some that didn't. There's no way they could've made this game perfect; there are always things that need improving. Hopefully, if the rate of improvement continues, we will get an even better Tomb Raider next time. I'm happy with the finished product overall, but I do agree that some of the features were a let down.

The kind of detail you ask for is unrealistic. Computers would have to be many times more powerful then they are now and a game like that would probably take more than 5 years to create with a very high budget. In times like these, it's not something a publisher like Eidos can risk.

Yeah, besides would these things really add to your enjoyment of the game?

The 2D backgrounds were an annoyance.
Let's get rid of Eidos before we start on TR9, alright..?

I think that would be a fair move, I think Eidos are too manipulative.

Am I the only one who thinks that Realism ruined the series? :o

I do not think you are, realism is a general term that can be applied and taken away very easily. What do you mean by realism?

I don't really know... I just think it takes the TR Feeling away... I mean if Realism is still TR related it's ok...

What I mean by realism is the environmental realism, not the realism related to the story of the game :) That would be rather boring if the plot was realistic.

These details were really good:).

CD has to spend a lot of time on these glitches.

I don't think the added realism is the only factor that takes away the TR feeling you're talking about. Back in the old days, everyone who played the classics longed for better graphics. It's just that some things like difficult puzzles and precision movement got lost somewhere. Those were the elements that seperated TR games from the regular action games. Now TR's just become a decent action game. And it shows in the sales figures...
