View Full Version : PS3 Exclusive - Heavy Rain
Wondering if anyone has ever heard about this game called Heavy Rain? It's a PS3 exclusive right now that is due out in late 2009 and it looks amazing!! It looks like a horror/suspense/mystery/action type of game. Here's a quote from Gamespot on it: "French developer Quantic Dream (the team behind the acclaimed adventure game Indigo Prophecy) brings you Heavy Rain, a game featuring realistic character emotions..." I've never played Indigo Prophecy but this game is looking sick!! The way the graphics look, the way the rain drips down the girls face is just amazingly life like! Let me remind you that they are saying this is actual game footage, not cutscenes. I also have read that there are no loading times either! Interesting....I'm going to keep a eye out for this one...With Uncharted 2, possibly Final Fantasy 13, and this game Heavy Rain, the PS3 might have some hits on their hands for next year!! :D
Go here for a quick video on it (Don't know how to embed it on here..sorry):

Yup, I'm looking forward to this one ever since it was first announced QD are working on a new title. Fahrenheit is one of my favourite games, and I'm certain this one will be one of the best games in 2009, if not the best. Can't wait. :D

Quantic dream are one of the best storytellers and innovators in the game industry: this game is going to be special.
I really can't wait for more info.
PS: Have you seen the original tech demo? Even for a demo of the engine's capabilities, its amazingly atmospheric and emotional.
What was Fahrenheit? Was that any good?
The only thing that worries me a little bit after reading some more on it was that they were asked in the November issue of the Playstation - The Official Magazine, about how long the game was. They said they were currently about in the middle of the progress of creating it but that it was aimed to be 8-12 hours of gameplay if you played straight through. They did say though that they believed people would want to play the game several times to see all the options in it. Mainly because the game is based on what you do...Every action you do, changes the story and you have different outcomes each time. Which is kind of cool as it's not based on one storyline. I just hope it's not going to be as short as TRU was :( I really liked TRU and all but it could have been longer. Let's keep our fingers crossed ;)

Being short isn't always a bad thing: imagine if the game was say, 25 hours long- would you really want to replay everything again? At 12 hours long, you could play through the game twice in that time, and see all that you can see and do.
...I also have read that there are no loading times either! Interesting...
Now this really grabbed my attention. I'm under the impression that current disc reading technology makes "no loading times" impossible. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you need a game housed entirely on flash memory to achieve "no loading times"?

They had no loading screens in Tony Hawks' games. They disguised them as short cutscenes.
Same with Harry Potter OoP, You could run from the Mail Tower to the Gryffindor Common Room without lags in framerate or loading screens.
This looks promising, but you don't here any 360 or PC players complaining...

Fahrenheit is what Indigo Prophecy was called in Europe.
I strongly suggest you to play it - an amazing game and you can probably get it for around 10$ now. :tmb:
And I agree with Trigger, being so long isn't necessarily a good thing.
Take Fahrenheit for example, it can be played several times if you want to experience every last bit of it and they say Heavy Rain will have even more story outcomes. :)
Indeed Heavy Rain looks very interesting, I've got my eye on it!:D
Heavy Rain: Origami Killer. The game looks interesting! :D

That's the usual length of today's games. Longer games are the exception (unfortunately shorter ones aren't :p).

Too bad the ending sucked...big time. I'm hoping they get it right and make it consistent this time around, with Heavy Rain.

^ I still liked it as a whole, but it's true that the first third is the best part of the game.

Yeah..You have a right to be ;) I tried to go back to find where I might have saw something about that :( So, I was probably wrong on that point. I remember seeing something somewhere but oh well.
Maybe they will say something about the game tonight during the Video Game Awards :D
Thanks for the info VonCroy...I might look into that ;) I saw the infromation on it on Gamefaqs after I posted so I feel like a dunce :p

Right, I've played a few games that mask the loading with cutscenes or even preload areas during gameplay, but I consider "no loading" to be something else entirely. To me it indicates a lack of even initial loading, not just mid-level. Perhaps the instant loads of cartridge based games back in the day. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
I hope the next tomb raider looks like that!
Only if TR becomes PS3 exclusive and the developers work closely with Sony for 3-4 years.
Which right now sounds completely impossible.:/
And yes,i'm really excited about this game ever since i saw the first trailer.:)

I'm not too impressed. Indigo Prophecy was a promising game that ended up disappointing me overall, so I'm not too excited for Heavy Rain. Not to mention I hate interactive cutscenes. The ones in Indigo Prophecy were marginally amusing because they involved the analogue sticks and bumper buttons, but I see that Heavy Rain is back to using the X, O, triangle, and square buttons so it doesn't even have the novelty factor from the previous game :p
Too bad the ending sucked...big time. I'm hoping they get it right and make it consistent this time around, with Heavy Rain.
Indeed. The beginning of Indigo Prophecy was very interesting and set up a lot of great mysteries. Unfortunately I felt that the game fell apart about halfway through, rushed itself to a conclusion, and made no sense. I also think a lot of things got left out. For example, my character acted like he had previously discovered something at an important part of the game yet I had never seen it before so I had no idea what he was talking about (and it was something he obviously didn't know before the game started). Either something got cut out, or else the game got screwed up about which path I had taken up to that point.

Ah, alright then. I was about to bring up the PS1 game Soul Reaver as an example of a game without any loading (everything seamlessly connects together so there are never any loading screens within the game). However, it does have to load up when you first turn on the game, so I guess it doesn't match your definition.
