Batman: Arkham Asylum looks like it is going to be the best Batman game in AGES (ignoring Lego Batman, since anyone who liked the previous Lego games would have known that it was going to turn out good). Hopefully it will live up to the hype. :)
BTW, I think it said on IMDB that Paul Dini will be writing the story and Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will be doing voice overs. Has anyone else heard anything about that?

The game looks good, but I'm disappointed that they used the cartoon Joker. I really like The Dark Knight Joker and I just found out that the game for The Dark Knight was canceled, so now there's no chance of having that Joker in a game :( (I had thought that maybe the TDK game could use Joker's dialogue from the movie if the story would be the same)

That's all I could find on the forensics, I found it on wiki.:o
The developers have come up with a CSI style for forensic puzzles because Batman will always have the very latest gadgets. Investigative mode is the centerpiece in Batman's arsenal. The visor can highlight points of interest and scan items into your database.
I looked everywhere for an article with the whole forensic info. I don't know the password to my brother's gameinformer account I would have been able to get info that way there is an entire article on this game and it goes full depth on the gameplay.:o

Another familiar voice popped up in my demo, and it was none other that Harley Quinn. Yes, Arleen Sorkin is back to reprise her vocal role from Batman the Animated Series as well, but this is a much more "adult" version of the character. Sporting a corset, traditional face paint, super-short skirt, blonde pigtails, and -- as my demoer was nice enough to repeatedly point out -- jiggle physics. More than just eye candy, Harley's actually a pretty big part of Mr. J's plan to torture the Bat. She's kidnapped the Warden, and she's the one who unlocked all the doors.

The first twenty minutes of Batman: Arkham Asylum say a lot about the game: we’ve got the voice cast of the 90s cartoon, action-stealth gameplay and the writer that brought us episodes of Animaniacs and Lost.
But if Paul Dini isn’t enough to convince you that this Batman game is on the level, there’s plenty more going on in Arkham Asylum that deserves a look. First, and most important for me, is the voice talent. Almost the entire cast in the game seems to be drawn from Batman: The Animated Series. The Dark Knight himself is voiced by Kevin Conroy, Harley Quinn is played by Arleen Sorkin and I’m pretty sure I recognized Commissioner Gordon’s voice, but I can’t be sure it’s Bob Hastings.
The big star, though, is Mark Hamill as The Joker. I’m glad they got him instead of going for a Heath Ledger sound-alike –- it solidifies Arkham Asylum as a Batman game that stands apart from the movies. Besides, the role of main psychopath is a demanding one. From beginning to game over screen, the pinstripe-sporting super villain is there, taunting the caped crusader, goading him and generally being absolutely crazy at every opportunity. You need a star like Hamill to carry the performance.
The game starts pretty much how the trailer shows it: Batman escorts The Joker into Arkham, The Joker breaks free the second Batman is out of arm’s reach, the inmates at Arkham bust loose and take over the whole island. There’s also a plot point about Blackgate Prison being on fire, so a lot of Joker’s minions wind up at Arkham just before the break out. Killer Croc makes an appearance early on, Harley Quinn helps herself to a nurse’s outfit and a gun, and then the game lets the player take control of The Bat to try and get things under control.
Gameplay is a combination of three modes: Investigative mode, Combat mode, and Stealth-hunter mode. Early on in the game, when the inmates aren’t armed with guns, it looks like you can get by mostly with Combat mode. The controls haven’t been 100% finalized, but it looks like you mash A and maybe Y to pull off punches, kicks and headlocks. There’s also some button combo that leads to a slow motion elbow-drop, but I’m not sure what the demo runner did to bring that on.
Right now, the game is still in pre-alpha, so they haven’t hit their goal number of guys on screen for combat. I only saw up to five guys in a fight at once; but the demo guy said they had gotten the count up to 15. By launch, Rocksteady hopes to bump that to 20 so the Combat portion of the game will be even crazier.
During combat phases, a combo-counter appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen along with a health bar. The higher the combo number, the more XP Batman earns for the encounter. When you level up, you can upgrade weapons or fighting moves and the health bar regenerates automatically when the fight is over (unless you die, in which case – game over).
They keyword here is “context.” Almost all of Batman’s moves are context sensitive. For example, you approach a grating over a vent and a prompt pops up, telling you to press A repeated to break the grate faster. You could do that, or you could hold down Right Trigger and then press A once to slowly and stealthily remove the grate and slide it to one side. This is the basis for the Stealth-hunter mode where Batman has to take out multiple minions without being spotted. So instead of running in a mashing A, you creep in and hold Right Trigger while pressing A to turn a headlock into a stealth-choke or a punch into a smothering move.
It all depends on what the situation is and that’s where Investigative mode comes in. By toggling this mode, Batman sees the world in a sort of infrared view where everyone’s skeletons are visible. You can see how many people are in an area, how many are armed, where possible exits might be and all sorts of clues (like “pheromone trails” or hand prints). It’s clear that Rocksteady wasn’t out to make a brawler – they remember rightly so that Batman is supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, not the world’s best boxer.
Other components of gameplay in Arkham are collectible items and exploration. The game isn’t exactly a sandbox game, but neither is it a straight linear path. Batman can go all over Arkham island (observe the mad gliding ability in the trailer), but certain areas won’t be open to him at all times in the game. Some areas will require a certain item or a certain event to happen before they’re open and it sounds like you can’t really go back in the game unless the main plot makes do so.
Using Investigative mode will tell you where to go next to advance the story, but wandering around means more collectibles and more collectibles means more unlockable content. Paul Dini has gone all out on creating back stories for almost all the meat shields prisoners and prison guards in the game. So it’s never just faceless dude Batman has to save/kill – it’s “Steve” or “Joe” and he’s got a wife and kids or whatever. Profiles for characters are part of the unlockable lineup along with original art from WildStorm and probably some other undisclosed goodies.
I walked away from my time with Batman: Arkham Asylum feeling more hopeful than I have in a while about a superhero game. It was said several times during the demo that the developer was out to make a game that would stand on its own without the benefit of the Batman franchise -– and I actually believe that’s true. Of course it doesn’t hurt that it’s Batman. I’ll take any excuse to have Mark Hamill in my games.
Arkham Asylum comes out sometime this summer for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. When asked about Achievements and Trophies the answer was: “There are lots – with a capital L.”

I guess that explains it :p But yeah, the game does seem to be much darker and grittier than the cartoon, so I'm nervously optimistic. Sorry everyone but Joker is the only confirmed A-list villain in the game, a very recent preview claimed that the developers said other villains would be less well known such as Crock and Victor Vasz (excuse spelling, using the PS3 to surf the net makes checking things tricky). others such as the riddler and Ivy seem to be rumours spread by Imdb and concept art, although Riddler and Bane do seem to be the most likely to be included if the preview was wrong.

I knew Harley was blond since I saw a few cartoon clips with her recently where she was out of costume. I didn't realize it at first though (it's been ages since the cartoon has been on and I forgot :p).
I'm not sure how I feel about this new look for her. I don't mind the costume itself, but her body seems to be the wrong shape. She's supposed to be more slender with smaller boobs :p
Edit: I mean, in that particular pose her shoulders look very broad compared to the cartoon where she's a stick-figure.

I'm still undecided about Harley's new look. The image itself is awesome and definitely has the crazy vibe. Yeah I agree about the Harley part. Regarding the joker I was not like that the second I saw the joker card after the credits of the Batman Begins movie, that is when I knew I had to see the Dark Knight :p

wow I haven't played a GME about something I like that is actually fun in a long time(speqaking of the crappy tomb raider)so I might buy this.
I think that they should do this to the tomb raider franchise...as in take either from the movies or comics and use that and then add a gothic type of touch:)

Well she was the only villain who has actually came incredibley close to killing Batman, was The Joker not so vain, he would've been fish food in Mad Love :D

this really wasn't an issue until WB became involved with TR and they've always been connection to B-man, but I think the problem is WB not Eidos
I just think its a little bit silly that they are once again alienating a portion of the audience by doing it, which you think they would have learnt with Tombraider. And if it was WB, then surely someone at eidos would have the common sence to say "actually it might not be a good idea, because, see we did it with tombraider and now half the audience hate us"

Who says there aren't any more costumes, that's just complete speculation, there's an entire island to explore which would lead me to think there's tasks or collectables, therefore some unlockables are entirely possible.
Plus, these are exclusive maps, not just a skin, it would be stupid for The Joker to be running around killing his own goons when The Bat is lurking around, so how many Batman challenge maps there are, there should be the same amount of maps per character.
Plus, The Joker is much bigger icon than Lara Croft, I love Lara as next as any other Tomb Raider fan, but she's never reached the number one spot on 'The 100 Greatest Villains' lists numerous times, or been named one of the greatest pop-culture characters of all time, and this was before Heath Ledger's incarnation.

Nope, Harley's going to be voiced by Arleen Sorkin, her VA from the 90s cartoon. I don't think Amanda's VA could pull off a squeaky enough voice (without sounding like a toddler) for the role, personally.

I hope the Mad Hatter makes an appearance, his role in Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth, is one of the most chilling portrayals of a character I've ever had the joy to witness :D

I was wondering as well, they had one on the PS3 at Wal-Mart so I don't know if it was just a promotional thing.:)
I saw it and picked it thinking it was a video but it was an actual demo. :D

Well the demo was for the challenge modes and there was 2 areas unlocked for it, the controls were pretty smooth, I had to get used to a lot of it.:p
The graphics were just wow.:eek:
We did whats called a Kiosk demo for Sony of America.. I dont believe theres plans to release that demo for download (may be wrong of course, but currently as far as i know theres no plans)

Just read that the joker is only avalible for ps3, well eventually they will release it on the marketplace I assume (darth vader soul caliber 4) but I really want to be able to play as harley (I know weird for a guy to want to play as a gal but hey look at lara) her backround of sneaking and setting traps just works so well I at least hope there's a costume. But I took a look at the combat um its ok a little to basic imo but it runs nice and smooth :) so far things are looking good.

Just because that happened once, doesn't necessarily mean it will be the same case, the PS3 doesn't have many good exclusives and this is a diamond in the coal. Even though I do own a PS3, I'd still think the same if the PS3 got all the exclusives and the Xbox 360 didn't get them.
The 360 has PLENTY of exclusives, let Sony have this one.

Everywhere I have looked has said the release date is roughly September 1st, I have seen it on multiple sites and even the Gamestop stores here say September.

The voice actress of this incarnation of Poison Ivy is not Diane Pershing, who voiced her in the animated series, however Pershing did voice her in Batman: Vengeance, alongside Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Arleen Sorkin, etc.
It was essentialy, Batman: The Animated Series - The Game.

I have to say I love how the Unreal engine is looking on the game, and I loved the demo so much. The combat is fun and brutal, the controls were smooth too. Everytime we go to Wal-Mart I play the demo.:vlol:

She looks pretty true to her usual looks, like The Joker, they can change significantly with Harley.

She has her usual bleach blonde pigtails (seeing as Harley isn't naturally blonde :p), she still has somewhat a representation of her original outfit underneath (the black and red costume), and she still has her usual facepaint.
As for her little nurse outfit, or atleast somewhat part of a medical jacket, I believe that is to represent her past as being a psychologist, or perhaps The Joker has something planned with the inmates being loose, and this would show what role she would play in the whole plan.
I like this representation of Harleen, it fits the dark and somewhat adult tone of the game, Arleen Sorkin is once again voicing her; she's acrobatic, she's giddy and she's smitten for Joker, she's Harley Quinn true and true :D
