^ Ditto. Lose Control is definitely my favorite entry so far. It's just great.

I also like a lot Andorra's entry (La teva desició by Susanne Georgi) but I just don't see it passing from the semi-finals. I have the feeling it will be borng on-stage, sort of like Andorra's last year. Meh.

I definitely liked last year's Eurovision. My favourite entries were those of Russia and Sweden. Hopefully the songs will be as interesting this year.

Btw, I don't care about the competition or who wins. I only watch Eurovision for the songs.

We'll see. I think we'll get a top 10 place and possibly the top 5 if ALW really is up on stage with Jade. She performed well at Malta and the arrangement has improved.
Also, My Time was stuck in my head for ages - soo repetitive as are most Eurovision songs.

Yes, there are countries voting only fo neighbours, but you must understand the fact of a poppularitty of a singer...

for example, serbian music is the most popular music in the balkans, and our stars are extremly popular in Bosnia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro....so its only natural that when a serbian star enters eurovision that their fans from these countries are going to vote for them....

Also it all a matter of taste since many eastern european countries prefer the hot rythm that turkey, greece, armenia brings to the competition than ballads that the western countries present to the competition....

Im waiting patiantley for more entrys, serbias selection will be held on 7th of march...so far I didnt like any song...the finish is good....

Youtube vids are blocked because of my ISP but I'm guessing you mean Chiara? I think its a typical case of good singer, bad song. The UK suffered badly for it last year. Shame really because I want Malta to win it and Chiara has almost come 1st twice but I don't think it will be this year.
Also, I think Malta have gotten underserved low placings both in 2007 and 2008 especially. I really thought Vodka was in with a chance. :(
Jade did a good version of 'My time' at the Maltese national final though, I'm hopeful for the UK after so many joke entries (Daz Sampson, Scooch etc).

I've been watching Melodifestivalen, last night's semi final wasn't that good but I liked alcazar's performance from last week, very catchy. In hindsight I think Sanna Nielsen's Empty Room should've went instead of Hero (even though I wanted Hero to win - again, how did it come so low on the scoring!?).

Which by your logic implies that the UK does not have many "friends".

I'm wondering, if you live on the border, it would be easy to just use foreign mobile networks, so people could vote for themselves couldn't they?

I don't know why you'd want to, nor why people feel the urge to vote for their neighbour countries for no apparent reason.

Not to my taste at all. In fact my distaste began immediately with the strings, sounding so Celtic, as they do (to me). But I can see why that one could be a winner. Not least for all the little girlies voting just because they fancy the singer ... like they do.

Usually nationals vote for their own country, what do I mean with this? That it's most likely to have people from your country in the one next door than in another far away. It's very affected by emigration, aswell.

true, the countries like the UK, Spain or France aren't going to have as many nationals abroad as for example , people from Moldova that live in Ukraine.

Well my favs are Turkey, Finland and Andorra. I hope they do well, although it's obvious Andorra will fail for political reasons and such.
Our song this year is absolute disaster in every way.
Norway is overrated and Swedish Melodifestivalen this year has a HUGE potential IMO, but we'll see (I hope for Agnes or Malena).
Spain desperately wants Balkan votes. Malta send Chiara again (NOOOOO!!!). Slovenia takes Croatian singer and yet they have better song than Croatia.
Everything else is kinda so-so. That's my opinion for now.

2007 Ukranian Eurovision was Epic. This year is quite good too. :D

I was wandering wether anyone knows if Kosovo will be in this years Eurovision. Being a kosovan myself i'm quite ashamed to admit that I have absolutely no idea. :p

In case nobody had put the link yet; here's Croatian entry:

I like Turkey's entry, Finland at least chose something different and I know what you mean about Andorra. They try but always suffer most from the voting. Nice to see another Malena fan, I wouldn't mind Agnes winning but who couldn't like La Voix? Brilliant song. :D
To be honest, I liked Chiara's first two attempts (the second more than the third) but this third entry feels souless, uninspiring and heard it all before. I think Jade will overshadow her with her ballad.
Haven't heard the Slovenian entry yet (lack of Youtube here) but more than anything, I agree that its a bit so-so this year with the quality of entries, not bad but not great either.

Perhaps we may get a close vote this year? the voting has been a disappointment and a bore for the last few years, the juries may spice it up! :D

My favourite is the Greek song with Sakis Rouvas and Norway.
I liked the Turkey's entry, but I have heard it so many times that now I think it's boring!
I can hardly wait for the contest! I'm curious because I want my country to win, but I haven't read any comments saying anything about that song...Only greeks have commented....:p

I hope juries will help. I'm tired of seeing same countries over and over again in top 10. It was nice to see countries like Denmark, Portugal and Iceland in the finals of last year Eurovision, but results were still predictable (apart from Norway).
Well I have to add that Estonia is pretty good too.

OMG! What a vote! I so wanted La Voix to win it but by the time they were done with the first lot of votes I was convinced she was out of it. Then I swung my support behind Stay The Night only for La Voix to win it by quite a small margin anyway! I couldn't bloody believe it when she won. I was convinced Love Love Love would get that 124 points!
I was so overcome with joy honestly! :p
I have been listening to La Voix all week. :D

My support is well and truly behind Sweden's Malena to win the whole thing this year, I can't think of any other entry so far that has captured my interest like this one.
Btw I loved Slovenia 2007 so if people are comparing Malena to Alenka, then I'm cool with that!

@Silviaismyhero: Is that meant to be Silvia as in Silvia Knight in your username? Her song was wonderful car crash TV back in '06. :D

It won't be long before I list up all the entrants. The draw will take place on Monday to decide which order each country will perform so once that's done, I'll copy a list up onto the first post. No hyperlinks this year though for two reasons:
1. Youtube has become a lot stricter this year on music videos so there's a high possibility that most will end up as dead links.
2. I don't have any access to youtube from home due to my ISP blocking any streams from there. (awkward sods >.<)

Melodifestivalen is probably one of the most popular shows in Sweden. Semi-finals are hold in 4 different cities and final is hold in Globe Arena where they hosted Eurovision back in 2000. I'm also surprised how popular their selection is. Even fans from other countries come to see their selection.

First post (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=146486&highlight=eurovision) has been updated with a full list of participants!

Now 'tis time for my scores:

12 points UNITED KINGDOM
10 points - SWEDEN
8 points - MALTA
7 points - FINLAND
6 points - TURKEY
5 points - CYPRUS
4 points - PORTUGAL
3 points - NETHERLANDS
2 points - ISRAEL
1 point - BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA

This isn't based on performance so second scoring from me will be coming after the contest (don't want to totally spoil myself). Not saying I like their song but Norway could be a dark horse to win. :/

Ohh I see. At least you don't need to pay for a TV licence then (assuming you live in the UK). Screw digital TV, I wonder what the BBC will do when it all inevitably goes online? Its only a matter of time I think. :tmb:

Neteru
13-04-09, 23:49
Yes I'm in UK. And that's exactly why I've done what I have (aside from the fact that I don't actually watch TV anymore anyway). I object to the licence fee and the way the BBC criminalises and harasses everyone who doesn't have a licence, assuming they are guilty.

As for the digital switch-over. I'm sure they'll lobby MP's to get the laws changed again, as they've done so many times before, to suit them.

Anyway, because of that I need to watch this online. I wouldn't be so bothered if I missed it, but if I can still get to see it, I'll give it a try. Besides which, having it going on my PC will make it easier to still keep an eye on things here.

Personally I think I am kind of disappointed. I know that Krasimir Avramov is a phenomenon. He can cover absolutely every sound from the lowest to the highest. Which is exceptional for men. But only because he CAN sing this high, it doesnt mean that he HAS to sing this high throughout the entire song! it gives a headache. It would have been way better if he had a song that shows how he can cover every sound... That's why I would love to hear your opinion... Do youalso get a headache from listening to this howling?

You don't need to be sorry. I already said I agree... i was asking because I know how successful Krassimir is - in USA. But not here. He recently came, seemingly just to enter Eurovision. sakis rouvas with his previous song in 2004 had a big hit and in europe they know him!now in greece he is a star,he had a child, got maried, changed manager that was good for him and presented the greek xfactor!!

SAKIS ROUVAS IS GREECE!!!
&
GREECE IS SAKIS ROUVAS!!!

YOU GO SAKIIIIIII!!!!:jmp::tmb:

That's exactly my point, I think Dima Bilan really won because he was well known, and because it was Russia. Sakis has a good chance of winning.

Marianna12

I think that Sakis Rouvas is not as well known as Dima Billan...And Greece is not a 'big' country...I like the song and his voice, so I don't that if he wins, it's because he's well known or beautiful...
But, that's my opinion...everyone has different views...;)

Well, he has a nice voice, and I think the song is better than a lot this year, especially Hadise, I don't rate her voice too highly. But I think the best song is Finland's, but it won't do well.

Bit of a scandal atm because Eurovision site Oikotimes has reported that Hadise has gotten Herpes and that she might not perform. The Turkish delegates are apparantly furious about this and totally deny this rumous the website has spread. Expect a lawsuit to be filed sooner or later.

Turks want to do the same to us...(btw, I'm not one of those who have these "problems" with Turkey

Greece has Armenia. and Armenia has Greece and Cyprus. We are brothers.

Greece has Cyprus for sure...I don't know about Armenia, though...
Other countries have more 'friends'. Norway for example has Finland, Sweden, Ukraine etc... Russia has the most friends...

Seems like that could be part of the reason. A quick look at either Sertab's or Helena's winning performances on Youtube in the comments section tells me a lot. I think I need to understand better where this animosity comes from though. There's must be some historical baggage in there.

36 countries need to compete for a place in the final. 18 in each semi final (one today one on thursday), 10 countries in each semi final qualify for the final so all 18 countries preform in a row today until the end where voting commences. Hope this helps.

Ah,Albania is starting to run out of great singers.Just type in YouTube "Vace Zela" and listen at her beautiful voice(she is considered as the best Albanian singer).

Yeah, Saw that too :( Didn't understand what Lenochka was talking about until the random BBC Three person who was talking for what seemed as hours gave us the final 5 seconds to see T.A.T.U, not that I really like them, tbh never heard any of there songs so I can't really judge but if there were any tatu fans watching from England, god are they angry :p.

Reggie
12-05-09, 21:19
I have no idea how people can watch and post online at the same time. I'm awful at multi-tasking though. :p

Anyway, my impression overall has been very positive. Almost every single country going through deserves it.
The presenters however are horrendous. The man was as if he was glued to the Nicole Kidman lookalike and their on stage behaviour and demenour was cringe-worthy. What the hell was all that about pushing the button each time? is that supposed to be funny? In previous years, I've felt the ****ging off of the presenters has been a bit undue but this year is an exception.

Portugal was a shocker for me. Out of nowhere its emerged as my no1 favourite. Its happy, vibrant, modern and uncliched yet it SOUNDS like something from Portugal. Love it and I voted for it.
Sweden, Turkey and Malta were all let downs for me. Chiara sounded a bit shaky, Malena got drowned out by her backing singers and Hadise sings like she's got the flu and the male backing singer who sounds loudest has driven this way down my list of songs I'd like to win this year.
Iceland was another very pleasant surprise and it has winning potential. My only concern is that Jade and Chiara will cancel her song out...
Bosnia Herzegovina is the only eastern song I liked - but its a real good one. Again, its not gimmicky and it feels convincing and modern.

Roll on Saturday. :D
