This is just an observation :D :jmp:

OK, so I am reading an article on a fan site about how Core-CD go after web sites that post Nude Raider pix. They threaten them with lawsuits if said pic is not removed asap.

I agree that Nude Raider is pretty pathetic. People who make that stuff need to get out into the sun. But CD's reaction is a bit puzzling...

They 'aggressively' go after any site that posts Nude Raider. They say they want to 'Protect Lara's image". WTF does that mean? What is Lara's image? CD makes this woman with a super athletic body, tight tummy, gi-normous boobs, long flowing hair, and dresses her in skintight hot pants and bikinis. And then when some 12 year old with basic PS skills repaints the same tight hot pants flesh colored CD has a fit.

If they don’t want Lara to be seen as sexual, them make her look like Dora the Explorer, or stop whining.

It does seem rather strange after Core published those pics of Lara nude. Who wants to see it? No one's that sexually starved, surely?!

I guess it's because it's a violation of their property, to be honest. THEY can make that stuff but no one else can!

What you said made little sense. Just because she wears short shorts and tight shirts doesn't mean that it's fine for her to be completely naked.

Do you have any references as examples of Core going after Nude Raider sites?

If not this is just speculation.

It's true, Core did shut them down. :p

"Nude Raider' Crackdown
Core Design takes legal actions against fan sites posting naked pics of Lara Croft.
by IGN Staff

March 22, 1999 - Gamers love Lara Croft. Some seem to love her just a little bit too much.

A small number of web sites run by fans of the Tomb Raider game series and its heroine Lara Croft post fan-made art that they call 'Nude Raiders', which show the lovely heroine with her clothes off. Some of the images are even more risqu¿, showing her bound, cuffed or in other pornographic poses.

Core Design, the original makers of the game, have had enough of this kind of thing. According to a news report from the BBC, the developers have begun taking legal action against these fan sites. The article reports that Core doesn't want innocent fans doing web searches for "Lara Croft" or "Tomb Raider" to inadvertently find this pornographic content.

They also don't want Lara Croft to be associated with this kind of material online, particularly considering many of her fans are under 18, the article said.

Core's actions have already begun to have effect. One formerly popular Nude Raider site, nuderaider.com, has shut its doors, replacing its front page with a simple message that says, "Farewell".

Be sure to see what readers had to say about the Core crackdown on today's letters page."

If that was aimed at me, then I wasn't saying that at all. I just figure that's how Core were thinking.

They make her very sexually suggestive, so going to happen, right or wrong. I am just saying they should expect that when they portray her that way.

I would like to see a more 'professional' Lara. I mean, even when she is in a cold climate, her coat is skintight. I mean, put her in a parka if it’s 50 below zero. It would be more realistic.

I always found the whole "ban and prosecute nude raider" silly. It's just painted pixels and anyone immature enough to want to see and play TR like that, he/she should. But in family forums like this one it's completely understandable.
Many "stars" had nude pics of them leaked but still their image remained intact. Let alone a VG heroine.

That's old news... I doubt they are fighting it now because the web is so much more open than it was just 10 years ago. You can find not only Nude Lara but Lara doing just about anything you can imagine with just about anyone (or anything) you can imagine! I've seen it without even specifically looking for it!

How is that so worrying when technology has already infiltrated our lives to such an incredible extent?

I can more understand someone looking at renders of nude Lara and being stimulated (because stimulation, particularly in males, is a very visual business) than I can understand someone who seemingly has to talk to people so much that they take and recieve calls while they're on the toilet in the stall next to me! That's an invasion of technology into nature, LOL!

Did I say it was abnormal? No, I didn't; just that I personally don't understand it because I won't do it... but it is an example of how technology has reached into every aspect; every corner of life. So, in a world where that goes on (and never did even just 15 years ago) why does cyber porn surprise anyone?

Clearly I misinterpreted what you meant then.

Although the essence of cyber porn has been happening since the days of Atari. I can't imagine being surprised by it now.

Phone use (to me, overuse) fascinates me. I grew up not being able to talk to people all the time no matter where I, or they, were. It was normal and we all got along without that. I never really felt the need to do so.

Now that people can talk to anyone anytime anywhere it seems that a lot of people seemingly have to. And it's often very banal communication at that. I still don't feel the need to talk to people all the time about every little thing; but if I was young I guess I'd feel much different. When you step back to think about it, though, it's a drastic and incredible change in human behavior! Combine it with webcams and such and it seems like people don't care about their own privacy anymore; (not to any great degree) they don't have to have it--and it doesn't seem to bother them!

Cyber-porn, by contrast, is just another way to express a basic human drive... it's not really any kind of drastic change in human behavior; just old dogs learning new tricks.

I find it to be very amusing that almost anyone would turn their car around and go back home if they realized halfway down the road that they'd forgotten their phone, yet just less than a decade ago your average person used the phone at home, and got along just fine with no communication while they're out.

You know, I completely agree. I think it's so hipocritical, both of Core and now of CD, to act like purists when they were/are the first ones to turn Lara into a sex object. Besides there are so many video game, comic book, etc., characters that are spoofed in "porn mode" on the internet, I don't see the respective companies agressively pursuing those. What makes Lara so special?!

Yeah, cell phones are one of those innovations that's both great and awful... most peoples' first thoughts on the subject were probably "this is fantastic, I will be able to call someone if I get a flat tire, or if I have an accident" etc. It rapidly went to just chit-chatting with your friends while you're shopping, or on the toilet, or (even worse) driving. I never for a moment think I have any right to tell anyone what to do but I'm usually thinking "can't this lame conversation wait until you get home?"

It's sometimes downright offputting when they're at the table next to you in a restaurant or in line in front of you somewhere. A girl in front of me at Taco Bell yesterday couldn't even get off the phone long enough to order her food...!

TO PUT THIS ON TOPIC, THOUGH: I'm guessing you can view Nude Lara pics on your cellphone... that's pretty cool, LOL!

Im not really to bothered, if some people want it they can in my opinion.

But to me I dont see why. As to the image bit. Jessica Alba is attractive and sexy, yet she doesnt take her clothes off. Theres a difference between sexy with clothes and sexy without

Hmmm.....yup I do remember Nude Raider. Good ol days. Anyway it's not a big deal. It's the past, it's the history now.

Today everyone could create some wacky or pr0n mod for TR and upload it. It won't be right of course.

But anyway I'm sure it won't be a whack for Lara's dad to see her naked ...
