Hey guys! Just wondering if you lot could help me out here. I've got this symbol on my hand bag and I've no idea what it's significance is and I hate having to tell people I've no idea what it means when they ask. :( It's definateley of Celtic origin or the like. It look VERY similar to the Power of Three symbol (but I can assure you it's definately NOT that) and has something similar to the Yin Yang symbol in the centre except there are three "fish", if you will, and no eyes.

I was going to send a link with a self-portrait with my bag in it but I'd forgotten I decided to be lazy and just draw the Power of Three. Here's the link regardless http://kowaii-lil-anyay.deviantart.com/art/Hipsy-on-the-bench-95989661 but it's no help now. >_< *Kicks self repeatedly* Tell you what though, I'll draw it and scan it in and post it here. :)

Like I said it is very similar to the Power of Three symbol but it's definately not that. It's got three knotted arms erecting from a circle that looks a little similar to the Yin Yang symbol in Taosim except with three fish with no eyes instead of two* (Or perhaps they look like chicken dippers? I had that for dinner so it's not totally random :L). Anyway, the arms erected from the circle with the "Yin-Yang" within it point North, South East and South West.

I honestly hope that description made just a little sense. :L

*Just in case some of you were wondering why in the world I was describing the Yin Yang symbol as having fish with eyes~ it's because the symbol is indeed two fish swimming into the other! Male and female (except the symbol I'm trying to find out about has no colour significance and they're all the same colour).

Thanks a bunch for the help, guys. :)

There's no great significance to that particular design... celtic design are often baed on threes - the disgns are called triskeles... I have a spiral triskele tattoo myself... this deogn just combines the knotwork and triskele
ideas.

Many of the better known celtic knots and triskeles come from the book of Kells which was a christian manuscript... and there's some talk that they (triskeles) represent the holy trinity - but deisgns like the Grange triskeles are (I think I'm right in saying) much, much older.

Are you going to get it tattoo'd?

Hi :)

I imagine in Northern Island you see lots of Celtic designs, if the one you refer to looks like this

http://i41.************/ffbm80.gif

Like BlackFlame said; its a Triskele. These designs have been in existance for a very long time and almost certainly pre-date Christianity. Here's the Wiki article.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskele (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskele)

From a personal perspective, being pagan, symbols like this & the Triquetra (the "power of three" knot) represents the the three aspects of the goddess; the Maiden, Mother & the Crone (or wise one)

http://i44.************/dr7dsk.gif

They are very pretty designs. I used to wear a Triquetra pendant on a necklace, but I bought a very lovely Triple Moon pendant (waxing moon/full moon/waning moon - another goddess reference) that I wear now.

I could rant on for ages so PM me if you want more information. :D

I hope this helped. :)

Oooh, nono, it's nothing like the first design there.

The circle from which the three knotted arms branch out looks just like the one in the link here EXCEPT it doesn't have the dots (or eyes);

Nah, this has actually been annoying me for ages! It's a gorgeous symbol and I don't like having to tell people that I don't know what it means when they ask me. Mind you I might consider getting a tattoo done at some point, haha. Where do you think I could get it done?
Lol I adore paganism. I've always hated it when people wear symbols and have no idea what they really mean (notably the pentacle) and thus I feel no better when it comes to this. :( Hehe, I'll be sure to PM you some time! I love talking about religion and myth and the like. It's awesome.

Thank you very much for the help, guys. I'll draw the proper symbol later on so you have a clearer idea of what I'm talking about.
Dunno if I mentioned it or not but yeah it'll probably turn out to be just some random design for the bag. xD

Blessxxxx!

Yeah! It's gorgeous! ^__^ I really do feel so stupid not knowing its meaning when people ask me and I feel no better than the ones who wear the likes of an Ankh or a pentacle and know little if anything about the actual meaning! D; It drives me nut in to be brutally honest with you! XD Ah, well, ha, ha! Sure will! ^__^

Absolutely ^.^ Awk, bless, thanks. ^^' I really need to do another avatar/big picture thing, though! I would put the one that I sent you lot a link to but I'm ORANGE! O: I don't think it's AS orange in real life mind, but regardless. xD

Awk, it's alright. Sure after we solve this mystery we can all talk about pretty much anything to do with Celtic stuff and other symbols just as the title says hur, hur. 8D

I love this forum so much. ^__^

This thing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taegeuk) seems to sit at the centre, but you know, chances are someone just made it because it looks nice, nothing more, nothing less :p

Aah, a Sam-Taegeuk sort of symbol in the centre.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sam-Taeguk.svg Much like that then.
Aye I know, it probably is I'm beginning to think, ha, ha. Regardless, it is a lovely design.
Thank you very much for the link, Punaxe. ^__^
