I can, actually, im not to sure why a 15 year old girl was humping a 13 year old boy, normally the other way round in chav culture.

Maisie was conceived after Chantelle and Alfie — just 12 at the time — had a single night of unprotected sex.

It gets worse! 12?????? Id barely discovered porn by that age.

Many kids nowadays have their first sexual experiences when they're about 9-12. Heck, my first time happened when I was 11. But what really worries me is the fact that some of these experiences lead to creating new humans. Children that age shouldn't have to worry about things like that.

Ah.. it's not anything new. Maybe in our culture, but it definitely isn't new.

In a sense it's new because of the boys' age. In years past all the young girls were taken by older men; in a "Mans world" that was pretty much your privilege as a man. Young men had to wait their turn...

People do need to realize that 13 year olds have very likely, these days, reached puberty already. It happens at 12 and even 11 too. That's ALL that's required, naturally, to make people ready to have sex. All this other stuff about "whether they are emotionally ready" and such is societys' spin on something that is a natural part of human development. They've really done nothing wrong or unusual.

Ill-advised? Yeah, it is ill-advised, but that's where parenting comes into play... to make such a thing less likely to happen... to conform to what society deems appropriate.

EgyptianSoul

Another thing that worries me is that those kids have no clue about the responsibility taking care of a child brings. I'm afraid that when it gets too rough, the boy might abandon the girl and the baby.

But the legal age to actually have sex is 16 years old in the UK.

yep, yep.

so, like i said, their parents will end up raising these kids, and of course, the baby in question is going to grow up wondering why her birth parents are so shoddy and flaky and then, for attention she'll sleep with some dumb boy and there you go, the cycle restarts.

Basicaly I see Chavs as those who feel the Need to Be "Cool"..Smoking, Drinking, Law Breaking and have sex under age...(Is considered Cool by them)...and they also tend to be popular people and bullies at school aswell...because they do those things...
But lets face it...It aint cool at all,

Anyways, give a 12/13 kid (going through puberty) the chance to have sex with an older girl, you can bet he's going to take it most of the time.

Plus, even if libido wasn't part of the issue, kids like to explore and do new things with little regard for consequences.

Exactly what I was going to type. The cycle is probably going to restart.

this is exactly what's going on in my household, unfortunately. :(

my fiancee's 22 year old sister had her 4 year old at 18, and she's never, ever home.

she leaves her daughter here with my fiancee's mom, and she won't resurface until like, a week later sometimes. she doesn't even spend time with her when she is here.. she holes herself up in a room with loud music and tells her kid to go play because she's busy.

she sleeps around but always says she wants her daughter to end up nothing like her.

her daughter is 4 and she wears nothing but black.. this child CONSTANTLY seeks out attention by eiether telling people she loves them over and over or by acting out.

when she plays with her toys, she doesn't play princess, she pretends her mom and dad call her on her toy phone, she always tells me that theyre coming to see her, but they never do.

this is depressing as hell, but none of us are allowed to say anything.

It's not impossible. It shouldn't happen, but various cultures married kids off at 13 (or younger) and then expected them to have children. There's no reason for it any more though, and kids should not be having sex and 13 in my opinion.

It's hardly a surprise, you hear about this sort of thing all the time. I can't help wondering what sort of freedom and standards these children's parents are giving them? I thought the girl with him was his mother at first Me too, which is really rather disturbing. Although the boy says he wanted a baby, I would imagine (and wouldn't be surprised) that the girl talked him into having sex with her.

The boy has obviously reached puberty but, gawd, he looks about 8 ! Neither of the 'parents' have the first clue about the responsibility that having a baby needs. I have no doubt that the grandparents will be the ones doing most of the hard work and providing the financial support. It's good that their parents stuck by them though, but for the welfare of that baby, I guess they didn't have a lot of choice.

The boy and girl probably thought having a baby would be fun.

But both of them now have lost thier childhoods, I am still shocked at the whole situation. What's the point in hurrying to grow up, and do these adult things it's pointless at thier age. It should be the last thing on thier minds.

Normally I have nothing against what some people consider young, 18 for example, I mean my great grandma had her first child at 18, and by this age the person will probably sexually mature. But that girl is just six, I mean at 15 she will have passed puberty a while ago, and the height difference its sick.

What has how young he looks to do with him having fathered a child?

He is 13 and has reached puberty and therefore I see it as a natural thing to experiment with his sexuality.
That the couple went to have intercourse and unprotected at that is not exactly an ideal outcome, but it has happened.
Could it have been prevented? I do not know enough about the people involved and their circumstances, so I can't answer the question.
But I think that generally there should be more sex education taking place at home, in the family and I don't mean the one that comes in books.
What still surprises me in this country is how often people still have what I would call quite a "prude" attitude towards sex and related matters.
Of course I can only speak about what I know from my own friends and acquaintances over here, but many of them do not talk openly about these things with their children and most would never let their (young) children see them naked.
If at work (I am a nursery nurse) I mention the words "penis" or "vagina" to a 3 or 4 year old (completely within context, for example when they are playing with dolls) I get funny looks and not from the child, but from my dear colleagues, who think it is not appropriate.
Starting there, answering children's questions in a matter of fact but honest and open manner, is the best way to make sure that they know about sexuality, their own bodily functions and that they will feel confident to ask more related questions later in life.
And this way teenagers becoming parents will hopefully start to decline again.

@Gabi: I disagree with you. I think that young people need to respect that sex is not something to take so lightly especially before its the legal age. Those kind of words just being bandied around doesn't do that notion any favours. As for asnswering questions, I don't think its necessary for the child to know the whole story and you can still be honest with them without making anything up. These kids think they're going to be good parents? It'd be great if that turned out to be true, but I don't see it happening. They're too young to understand what it means to raise a child.

I understand that kids when they hit a certain age experiment and all, but my god, did nobody sit down and tell them that something like this could happen?

They're not going to be so positive about this when they realize that they've just stripped themselves of their childhood because now there's a baby to take care of.

At age 12/13 it is one thing to be experimenting with your sexuality, but full on intercourse? That is far too young. The chances are he would have received sex education at school, although it is possible that his parents didn't back that up with their own talks with him.

Although, I think Gabi is right, that there shouldn't be a prudishness about sex and our bodies; parents shouldn't be shying away from telling their children about sex and how their bodies work and also about contraception etc. But there is still a balance. I was told about sex aged 10. I was 16 before anyone thought to tell me about STDs and contraception. Before that I wasn't told anything at all. My parents certainly didn't tell me. This boy was probably told the basics, but clearly not enough. Being educated about sex, having gone through puberty is one thing. Being mature enough to handle the information and to understand the consequences and responsibilities is quite another. It is clear from the article, that this boy just wasn't ready to be a dad.

As for that 5 year old girl, how did that happen? I don't mean about her going through really early puberty, but was she abused?

One thing is to experiment with his sexuality on his own, another quite different is experimenting with his sexuality and his partner's.
I don't think it's that simple as to say "Well he reached puberty, that's it". There are boys and girls that reach puberty much younger (believe me, I know some). Just because they're physically ready to have sex, doesn't mean it's completely OK for them to do it at any age, and doesn't mean they're mentally ready either.
13 years old. He's really young. And now he has a kid to take care of, when he's not even finished being a kid himself.

Could it have been prevented? I do not know enough about the people involved and their circumstances, so I can't answer the question.

Yes it could've been. It's not only about sex education in schools. How the parents talk to their child and what they decide to "teach" him, what questions they answer or not, really have an importance on the whole subject.
Hell, even the kid's capacity of differencing what he really wanted of what her girlfriend wanted matters!
Because, in all honesty, I don't see how he could be all "Oh I wanna get laid" being 13 years old. This maybe has something to do with that pervert girl he dated. :pi:

Oh, I agree on the balance thing.
I would not volunteer information that a child has not asked for in the first place. For example I would not go about and tell them about the sexual functions of the penis and the vagina at that age. But then this is not what a child this young would be interested in in the first place. But I still think these organs should be called by their actual name, after all, you don't go around and make up ridiculous names for the nose or the mouth either, or do you? And this is actually a good example of what I mean: why on earth would you not call a penis or a vagina by its name?
Children who receive "sexual" education that is appropriate for their age tend to be confident with their own bodies and less likely to see "sex as something to be taken lightly".

I have just seen some of the other comments and for the sake of clarity want to state that I am not in favour of children having intercourse, just because they have reached puberty.
But that won't prevent some from doing it anyway and this is the reason why I think parental guidance, open, honest and tailored to the child's development and needs is the key factor to raise a "sexually responsible" teen and adult.

I don't think there is a legal age limit on sex... it's the relative ages of the participants that matters. No-one would advocate arresting a 12 year old boy and an 11 year old girl for having sex... I can't help but think, what were the parents doing? How could they not have noticed that their young children were sexually active? I can only suppose that they were leaving them to do their own thing, which at their age is dangerous, especially the young lad's.

All the news stations are berating our sex education system, but that's not where the fault lies. Why do parents rely on schools to teach their children about sex? Why should the schools be doing THEIR job? I bet if they had just sat down with their kids and explained sex and the ramifications thereof this would never happened.

I also fervently hope that these two prove everyone wrong and turn out to be brilliant parents. Sadly, I just don't think it'll be the case...

By the looks of the picture, she was having trouble getting any attention from boys her own age, so she resorted to this boy who was so naive, she managed to convince him to have sex with her. Its obvious he didnt know what he was getting in to.

That girl is practically a Paedophile/Rapist in my opinion, she wanted to have sex with that kid. And I doubt he really wanted to.

I mean look, he barely even sounds like he would know what a vagina is. His father said he hadnt even spoken about the "birds and the Bees" yet.

And the kid shows just how he is too young in that video, "...Whats financially?" He actually didnt even know what that meant. Far too young to Be a proper Father.

I donít agree at all.

She was 14 at the time, he was 12. She wasnít exactly that much older. Sure at that age 2 years is a big difference but still, I donít believe the boy was innocent and had no idea what he was doing, or that she convinced him to do it.

Youíd be surprised at what kids these days know about sex at age 12-13Öof course they fail to understand contraception.

I think both are equally to blame.

I have to completley agree with you, If it was the guy who was 15 having sex with a 12 year old he would be imediatly called a paedophile. That girl is sickening, Im sorry but any 15 year old girl who looks at that 12 yr old and thinks "phwoar" "hes fit" is just strange.

It takes two to tango. He may be young but he still could have said no. In my opinion it's naivetie (sp?) on both their parts. You can't be 'seduced' by anyone.

He is too young but she definitley took advantage of him, there is know way a 12 year old boy would say no, hes to young to know of the consequences but will be instead thinking of his social status, he wont want to upset her, and his mates might ridicule him if he didn't.

So no she didnt seduce him, but take adavantage.

On a side note where does it say she was 14???

I'm not sure why we've got into this discussion of who 'seduced' who, the fact is that these kids' sex education was so poor they clearly had no idea what contraception is, resulting in little Maisie. This is a human being, brought into the world through sheer ignorance that so easily could have been avoided!

I can't see why parents aren't talking to their children about sex. It's either squeamishness or plain laziness, and neither is an excuse. At the end of the day, if kids like these two are that promiscuous they're going to go out and have sex anyway, (though hopefully not as young!), we can at least arm them with the facts.

I wonder if the parents' parents could've known, though. Giving that sort of education at the age of 12 already is pretty early, definitely to the standards with which they grew up. I wonder if they couldn't have seen it coming, though... Some signs of sexual activity, perhaps? If not, and if the kids just went from playing with Lego together right to getting it on, I wouldn't really blame the parents.
After that point though you may want to blame them for not insisting on an abortion. It doesn't really seem like the kids would've cared.

I think its society.

Parentís for the most part find it embarrassing and awkward talking to their children about sex. That attitude toward sex needs to change as someone said earlier, that prudish attitude. I know my parents didnít tell me anything about it, and I was pretty clueless, I learned everything from friends and T.V!

I know my sex ed class didnít help me in the slightest. It just left me more curious.

The sad thing is, this happens way too often. I know a girl who got pregnant at 14, the dad was also 14, now sheís 15 and pregnant with her second. They donít take care of the baby, they both go out and gets wrecked every Friday and Saturday and leave the kid to her parents to look after it. She just parades him around like heís a fashion accessory, and now sheís about to have a second!? Itís just so wrong.

I think we're in agreement then. I thought you meant before when saying about being 'totally open' that you meant telling it all and uninvited at that. I like idea of the this window for young children to be half open. If they have a question, only say as much as needs to be said and use the proper names, that I agree with. :)

I didn't read the whole of the article before. I didn't realise that this boy was allowed to sleep overs at this girls house, even having a spare school uniform so he could go to school straight fro hers. What!?! What on earth were their parents thinking? At a young age it is acceptable but not at 12 and 15. Were they not supervised at all? I'm sorry, but I can't believe the [grand]parents didn't even see this coming, at least notice some signs that the friendship had 'moved' on.

Not only that but the girls family are living off benefits. That is a family of 8 (9 with baby-father). I am not against people living off benefits, (I live on benefits myself with a son to raise, I know how hard it is), but what is this new baby being brought into? How are they supposed to support another mouth to feed?

I'm sure they will all 'pull together', but once again we see an already poor family just making things harder on themselves.

That's about the age I can see myself being married. You do make a good point about being able to see one's children grow up to have their own families. Well, she isn't an adult, she is only 15, although it doesn't make it any better, I just wonder if he really wanted to have sex, or just did what she told him to do without really knowing what it was.

Its hard to believe someone that age had sex, I mean I guess it isn't uncommon but its still hard to believe, I am 15 and I am still not wanting to have sex for a while, at least not until I find someone I really love. But anyway, I hope that the baby gets taken care of and that they both learn a lesson, to maybe think about if having sex is really worth it, although it is get that they are happy to have a child it still isn't right that they, do and I know that to some people it seems like society is prolonging childhood but that last thing a 13 and 15 year old should have to worry about is a baby, they have so much more times to be kids but now they don't.

I actually don't think it is wrong doing by the kids, I mean sex is a perfectly natural thing when their ready but humans have extended the time it is acceptable to have sex at. I think it is whoever takes care of them for not teaching them enough about not to have sex and that they should wait until they are older and would be able to support a child and when they find someone who they love.

When in your "sex conversation" with your children, you need to state "Hey, remember you can't have kids because you're a child yourself", I think we have a problem. I don't see how a 12-year-old boy, sexually educated or not, can even desire a kid for himself, other than whilst playing games with friends. But then again, maybe I'm over-analyzing the situation, and pretending for a kid to have the common sense they should but don't have at that age (or maybe they do and I'm being too obliging to the little boy)
