A 40 cal bullet??? Maybe if she had a good layer of kevlar in there.

Wow.. that's amazing!

God bless her, she'll live to see her 21st birthday and be happy.. Wow, and I thought weaves were so 80s! :p

Oh, you'd be surprised at how exactly how many people wear weaves.

Oh, you'd be surprised at how exactly how many people wear weaves.

You bet..

So what exactly is a 'weave', is it a wig? Or is it fake hair? Educate me! :o

Immortalis08
20-02-09, 22:13
Its fake hair that is weaved into your real hair/roots I believe. In essence, people with short hair can get a weave and leave the house with long hair.

Rai
20-02-09, 22:25
That woman is soo lucky. If she had chosen to leave the house that day without her weave in, she'd be dead. :yik: Glad she's alright.

So can it come out if you like, comb or pull on it? :P

And LOL! lucky girl!

I am unsure about that part. It can sometimes be a painful process to even put it on since its woven into your roots I believe. So it might not come out that easily. I don't know this from experience, but rather a friend of mine. :p

I'm skeptical.

Of everything.

Mr.Burns
20-02-09, 23:14
I'm still having a difficult time comprehending how a .40 bullet could have been stopped by a weave. Even at close range, that's a decent sized bullet. I mean really, she must have had a setup similar to kevlar, or she's not telling us something EG, something else aside from the window and the distance slowed the bullet's inertia.

irjudd

Physics are physics, weave or not.

Mr.Burns
20-02-09, 23:17
Perhaps this weave managed to bend the laws of physics. :pi:

maybe she has a hard head?

Mr.Burns
20-02-09, 23:19
The headrest from the car seat perhaps? :pi:That was my thinking as well. I've seen what a .40 can do, it's not known for having weak stopping power.

@Violet: Trust me, not likely given what that bullet can do. A .40 is a middle of the road bullet. More stopping power than a 9 mil but not has much as a .45.

That's actually... hilarious. Okay, not good about the shooting, but saved by a weave? LOL

Either the cheap weave just bent the law of physics or her skull is made of Osmium. Daayem!

Yes obviously, but they are just called Wigs here in England. I am not to sure what you Scottish people call them. :(

Hair piece, toupee? Whatever. :p

People don't get a weave and say "Hey, do you like my wig?"

In Big Brother, Makosi's hair extensions were named as a weave.

To be honest most people here refer to weave's as hair extensions because thats what they are. :)

Enough about the hair extension talk. ;)

But more of how they saved her life! :)

Mm yes. Acts more as a catcher's mitt instead of just a heavy metal plate. Still, Things don't match up with this woman's story.

This is one for the Mythbusters! Somehow I don't want to call this one "busted" just yet. I'd love to see someone try to duplicate this...

If you saw the one where it took two armored vehicles to pull apart two phone books whose pages were enterleaved--with no glue, clamps, or anything else other than the friction of hundreds of pages rubbing against one another, then you might believe anything is possible!

Even then, a 9mm isn't like shooting a bb. We both know that.

Yup, I remember that episode, in fact that was one of the first things to pop in my head when I read this story. You should submit this to Mythbusters Dave :)

There was a similar case where a guy shot a 50 calibur bullet, ricochet happened and the bullet hit his ear muffs. Two very lucky people.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only person thinking that. I mean, I like weaves (in terms of hair extensions ;)) and it's a good thing she survived but, uh, I wouldn't think it's nearly thick enough to stop a bullet.

If the bullet was a 50 calibre which is the worlds strongest bullet then it wouldnt have been strong enough.

you must admit its at least amusing.. or amazing, whatever you prefer.

I don't see how a little weave could stop a bullet. None of it makes sense - there must have been something else involved.

are they 100% sure it was the weave that stopped it and not anything else in the car? it could have hit anything and then got tangled in the hair. maybe it was the car that saved her.
i've heard that a woman's breast implants saved her from a sword fish attack, but a 40 caliber bullet stopped by a weave?
