Post 'em here. :) Doesn't have to be a country, it can be anything, just so long as it's a flag.

Ha, the Dutch flag is of course awesome :D

http://www.enddeathpenaltyforbretthartmann.com/images/dutch_flag_image.gif

Not just because I'm Dutch, but also because it's the oldest tricolour in the world that's still in use.

Fun fact: the dark red used to be orange (the colours of the Prince of Orange (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Orange)), painted using a mix of red and yellow. However at the time, the yellow paint wasn't as good yet, and it used to wear off, leaving only red. Because of this practical problem, they decided to just stick to red.

I remember they proposed that as a flag for the European Union... Another candidate was this:

http://media08.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/amo-barcodeflag_15.jpg

Created by the famous architect Rem Koolhaas, consisting of all flags of the Member States put after each other. Pretty impractical to have to update every flag whenever a new state joins, plus... Damn ugly. :p

The Brazillian flag is nice, and I like their motto though "Ordem e Progresso". Which literally is a positive statement. But saying that one of my BEST friends is from Brazil. lol I used to like the old USSR flag too, the hammer and the sickle. Oh, the times of the arguments between the USA and the old Soviet. Being that my dad was from the old soviet too, I guess that's why it appeals to me...

Other than that, I like the Argentinian and Canadian flag.. And Union Jack!

I also like...

and...

http://www.europevichpunjabi.com/images/-European_flag.png

There are a few different stories about the twelve stars, but, as Wikipedia quotes:

"Against the blue sky of the Western world, the stars represent the peoples of Europe in a circle, a symbol of unity. Their number shall be invariably set at twelve, the symbol of completeness and perfection ... just like the twelve signs of the zodiac represent the whole universe, the twelve gold stars stand for all peoples of Europe – including those who cannot as yet take part in building up Europe in unity and peace."

It's diferent because the french revolution didn't represent the fight against an external power - there's tons of other examples of that, including the american revolution. The french was actually the uprise of the people against their own rulers. In any case I'm sorry if I've offended your patriotic pride somehow. ()

Yep, Afrikaans is derived from, and still very similar to Dutch. The Dutch East-Indian Trading Company (VOC, see third post on second page of this thread :p) had a trading post in South Africa, that's why.

St. George's cross is a christian symbol which I completely reject, preferring instead our original, non christian flag.
