View Full Version : Game on!
yo ppl, tlr.
Just got back from another 1 hour games presentation at Core, held by non other than me buddy Peter B (A core design gfx artist).
Who was the first to stand up and ask a question in the hall? :D hehe!
Exclusive previews shown from their current and next gen games, Peters work on display, art, graphics, gaming mayhem, shotguns blasting the hell outta .... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/silent.gif oops cant say what they're blasting i'm affriad http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif
An hillarious dog animation presented to show off the use of IK within creatures.
Toby Guards Galleon, Half Life 2, Tomb Raider AOD were the main topics of discussion tho... AOD cropping up numerous times as he discussed what problems companies can come up against :( he admitted they had huge problems with the PS2 architecture and that the project took way longer than it should have :(
Graphics to code demonstrations, and a full insight from concept to production was all covered in this one.
Congrats Gav! Hope you knocked their socks off with your work! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
Looks like it's time to make an entrance! ;)
What can i say... apart from my work was displayed on the big screen http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-2.gif and Peter gave me the big thumbs up I was lookin for folks http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
One of my level designs with non other than Christopher sharps (a trf member) music being shown on a 15ft projection screen belting out music from the side speakers mounted on the hall walls http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-5.gif
Step two, pull him to oneside for a quite chat. Although he said he was in a hurry, he ended up talking to me for 15-20 mins after the student presentation about some next gen stuff... Peter then grins at me, and suggests a trip to E3 http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/clown.gif
Continued again http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Further more he gave me some more tips and tricks... quickly bringing up 3DS max on the big screen via a computer mounted infront of us. jpegs, AVI's, 3D gfx, photoshop all over the place http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-1.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-1.gif
Peter then reached into his bag and accidentally slips some new software to me on the conference plinth http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Then he tells me what he's got planned for the year ahead and shows me a downright awesome avi animatic from the disk he's holding involving a helecopter spiralling outta control, lashing rain and a billowing sky setting the scene ;)
Dang, kewl stuff anyhow
Unfortunately that's the last time I'll probably see him unless I go to E3 now... :(
Continued again
He then went on to hint about what i should do next, and gave me a hints that another games company was tucked away in Derby which I should apply to http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
While flicking through my CD showreel, he says "You don't need to do any more Gav!"
Awesome. So thats it trf peeps, I've finished learning 3D graphics on Max, now it's time to pitch an idea I've been planning since 1998 to a company. I'll do my best to bring some next gen delight to a game near you... if its 3 years, or 10 years, i'm get it noticed
I have no doubt you'll rock the gaming world! Nice work mate! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Thanks Gav. I've become fairly skilled with pre-rendering. Although I can't organic model if my life depended on it, I've gotten down shaders and mental ray, dynamics and hard-surface modelling down farily well, been using Maya for over 2 years now.. Trying to move onto real time stuff now.. Your firefly thing still blows me away, something like that is what I'm aiming for..
