I had to make the hard decision today to take my cat of 19 years to the vet to be put to sleep.

In the last six months he had deteriorated quickly from an active cat to one that just ate and slept and never moved much.

In the past few days, his back legs were not too good, and it took him a while to stand, and due to this he started to poo and wee where he laid, He also started to hide in corners to go to sleep out of the way.

I know I made the right decision, it was the best thing for him, but it don't make it any easier. He was with me the majority of the time, always sleeping on my bed over the years. It going to be weird and hard for a bit.

R.I.P Clyde, You will be sorely missed X X

My family had to put down our Golden Retriever, Zeus, last year due to cancer.

I know how you must feel, and I'm so sorry.

Thanks for all the replies, it has helped

He was in no real physical pain which is a good thing, at least he went quietly and pain free, he deserved that.

I feel so sorry, but at least he left without pain. You did the right thing.

It's always horrible to loose a darling being, even if it's your pet- I've gone trough it.

I hope you get over it soon- He's better and happy now, I'm sure

I'm very sorry for you loss. I know how it feels to lose a pet.

If you should ever feel sad about it, just give yourself a big hug http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-hug008.gif and remember that he's certainly in a better place now.

this reminds me of when my rabbit died :(

itīs sad, but you made a good thing, he wonīt suffer anymore, Iīm sure that all the pain he once had itīs been vanished, you were a nice person by taking him to the vet

you couldnīt have made something better than that, and Iīm saying this, īcause I know some nasty people that when their pets are on terminal conditions they only take them out of their house and let them die alone :(

If I were your cat, Iīd be very grateful to you
