Well, I'm a sucker for wall murals, so I'd definitely suggest getting a good artist (the good ones can be quite expensive, but if you'll spend the rest (or a bigger part) of your life in the room, I think it's worth it) and painting one entire wall (or the ceiling) with one huge picture - a huge dragon, or the one that seems popular in little girls' rooms - a wall of a castle with windows looking on the forests and hills surrounding it, or maybe, for a tomb raider-ish feeling - a setting of an egyptian or chinese tomb. Offcourse, you'd need to keep all the other walls lightly coloured (white would be good imo) and the furniture fairly minimalistic, not to "overcrowd" the room, with only a few details keeping the style of the mural - like some of those oriental style lamps if you go for that style or some nice plants and ottomans.
If you like that idea but wouldn't go for the mural, you could also paint one or two walls in an interesting colour (keeping the other walls white or light coloured) and then put nice photos over the wall, arranged in columns or rows perhaps - photos of nice places you'd like to visit or of different types of lizards or some of your favourite fantasy characters. You could also just make a "mess" on the wall - take all of the stuff you like (pictures of yourself doing what you like, different tombs, dragon drawings, excerpts from your favourite fantasy novels, pics of Lara and TR, newspaper articles, some drawings you made perhaps etc.) and put them on the wall in no order - it would be like the collage of your personality. Pair that with a couple photos of similar style on other walls or in frames all over the room. If you find a nice exotic or medieval styled chair or sofa, you could get it as well, it would add a nice touch without being too much - like it would have been imo, if paired with the mural.

EDIT: I found some pics to show what I was on about:

Yes, that's actually painted on a wall. :cln:

This is actually a poster - a mural looks better, but a poster is way cheaper and simple to put as well.

Rather than a big mural (which can be expensive and big) or posters (which are cheaper) you could try getting some fantasy pictures printed onto canvas, there are places you can get it done cheap, even your local uni might do it for you.

I strugle with a place to put my clothes also

Ged rid of the closet - just put a long closet pole on the wall and hang your clothes there. The room will definitely look bigger. Or even better - if you have an empty wall, paint it white and put small white shelves on the entire surface of the wall (small, separated shelves, at least a dozen of them) - put clothes on some (vivid coloured shirts on top), shoes on others and be sure to save some for plants or a couple of books or a photo frame - that way it won't look like a department store. :)

If your room is very small, then perhaps you should consider mirrors. A huge mirror covering a part of the wall will make your room look bigger.

woody's idea is also great. Like tapestry. It's cheap and if you change your mind, it's easy to get rid of. Remember though, that a room full of posters or murals may look small, so don't overdo it.

About clothes, check a furniture store, like IKEA.

I don't think I can take piccys tonight but basically my room is under a high-sleeper bed (double) but u can see it all, and then i have a desk oposite with my fairies/dragons etc... on and thts where the backdrop is above, underneath the bed i have another desk with beauty products on, a table, a chest, a bookcase and countless other things

:violent blossom - yeh i like that XD really prettty

: atlantisfreak - hehe yeah, i have a few and this water feature with fairies sittin round it :) ill take pictures tomorrow for you lot

i really like all these ideas!!!

oh iv folded half my clothes up , and since my wardrobe has two rails, im leaving one with no clothes on so i can easily see all my clothes :)

i display things on my windowsill too, at the moment it's all snail/crystal/oriental themed

it's amazing coz it seems like you lot know what I like in a room XD

I like getting a good sense of the kind of spatial dynamics someone has in their room. Its good to estabilish a certain harmony but not necessarily in the Feng Shui sense, just well laid out so you can have your room functioning properly, looking tidy enough, looking great but more importantly than anything, makes you feel good about it. Its hard to do that without visual reference. Since its fantasy I'd advocate one strong shade of colour i.e. dark violet being used on one wall or on a large canvas and with your accessories - really go bold with them and then with the walls and floor and larger features go for pastel shades such as powder blue, baby pink, yellow-white, faded lime. If you're seriously looking for any pictures, many Deviantart artists do really beautiful fantasy commissions.

Good luck with the room makeover!

oh, wait till you see my room! ive turned it into a collage. my room is plain whit with brown trim and no matter how much i beg, mom wont let me paint it because its paneling. so i got thumbtacks and posters and pinned them up on one wall of my room- leaving no white space. eventually it grew, and other things started getting hung on my wall (beads, concert ticket stubs, a feather boa, a sock[inside joke], a bag from gamestop that i got TRA in, hollister tags from shirts, scarves, build-a-bear dress, sunglasses, a wonderwoman cape that i got from 6flags when i saw Metro Station in concert there, glowsticks from a Barlowgirl concert...etc.) and now its more than just posters, it covers 2 1/2 walls and is still growing! i referr to it as more of a "living scrapbook" but it is now the pride of my room that my family and friends call "the poster wall". here are some pics i took. theyre old so its bigger and has more to it and this is just a pic of 1 of the walls and the corner of the other:

ill edit in the pics later, cause my computers being slow w/ tinypic:hea:

well really, it is your room and your sanctuary - so you should make it the way YOU want it to be. What would make you feel peaceful (or whatever mood you like to be in?) I think spencer's has some good fantasy statues and such - miniature dragon fountains etc.. They have stuff like dragon cellphone trays (weird IMO, but you may like it) other stuff of that sort.

make it reflect who you are.
do you like symmetry? arrange things symmetrical
do you like disorder? throw things about haphazardly

I think that once you get your decorations and furniture all together, you will be able to eperiment with different looks until you find one that works for you.

one last thing:
WALLS - white is boring. put some color on it, use posters/wallpaper etc.
-------------------------------------
one last thing for utilizing space in a small room.
Lots of home builders are retarded IMO and make closet doors that swing open instead of slide. If you have a swinging closet door - take it off the hinges and you will have more room to place things. Actually... I used to keep my Nightstand and television in the closet after taking the doors off. My hanging clothes were kept to either side of the tv screen.

if you don't have enough drawer space in your dresser for foldable clothes (which is the bulk of what I own) get an under the bed drawer system - if you cant find a bed in a style you like, get creative and MAKE one. Living in small spaces is a test in creativity and maximizing space usage while still keeping things open and comfortable.

Spencer's Gifts (http://www.spencersonline.com/decor_fountains/)

the online store is actually very lacking - you have to visit the physical store to see the cool stuff. yes... they do have some mature themed stuff in there, but that's not what the whole store is about.

A good way of revamping a room is to change the little things, like the bedding, cushions, lighting, etc. It depends what's on your walls right now. If they're kinda blank you can go wild and have funky accessories that make your room look brand new.

Ideas are endless when you want your bedroom to turn into a whorehouse :pi:

Maybe get a good theme going and don't make it too extravagant, unless you have the magical power of crapping money. You have good taste and I think your dragons/lizards/snakes/fairies/Lara thing will work, whatever one you choose ;) I like the new-bedroom feel.

I painted the hunting scene as depicted from the Tomb of Nebamun in Egypt on one of my walls. You just copy it onto acetate and then project that onto the wall, draw the lines in and then paint it. I'm still in the process of doing it mind you...

What you have to remember when doing a wall painting/mural is that if its based on an original piece it will NEVER look the same. The wall texture is different (plaster is much smoother than a standard inner wall), without a huge cost the paints won't match, certain sections are really fiddly as the original is much bigger etc.

Basically its a stylisation of the Nebamun Tomb Hunt Scene, some sections are simplified and the colours are different in places. The bit I'm proud of so far though is the Wedjat Eye on the cat that i added (i couldn't copy the original as the picture was too small and using a real cat for reference looked odd).

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7672/dsc01490d.th.jpg (http://img26.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc01490d.jpg)

Its currently on display in the British Museum by the way, I'm off tomorrow hopefully to see it. :D
