I'll begin, yes?

Tomb Raider

Pro - Brilliant trap designs

Con - The puzzles are rather simplistic

Tomb Raider II

Pro - Introduces outside areas, giving the series more scope and variety

Con - Human enemies are overused

Tomb Raider III

Pro - Areas are vast, and often beautiful to look at

Con - Boss levels tend to be short

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

Pro - More challenging and varied puzzles

Con - Missing out items in previous levels become a nuisance later on

Tomb Raider: Chronicles

Pro - Each area has its own unique feel

Con - The "four chapter" storyline makes the game feel more disjointed in comparison

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness

Pro - Innovates, without losing the essence of Tomb Raider

Con - Slow and unresponsive

Tomb Raider: Legend

Pro - Controls well

Con - Ridiculously easy

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Pro - Improves on some of the simplistic puzzles from the original.

Con - The choppy animations make Lara difficult to control when lining up certain jumps or running on narrow platforms.

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Pro - Great lighting

Con - Often frustrating camera

Tomb Raider

Pro - It revolutionised 3d 3rd person games

Con - Not enough movement possibilities (even some ladders would have made it more interesting)

Tomb Raider II

Pro - Introduces outside areas, giving the series more scope and variety

Con - Released far too soon, stunted its potential to be more than great but still a great game. :p

Tomb Raider III

Pro - huge Areas, choice of where to go next, perfect difficulty and gameplay formula, gorgeous visuals.

Con - Released too soon after Tomb Raider 2, again stunted its potential to be more than great.

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

Pro - The first half

Con - The second half

Tomb Raider: Chronicles

Pro - Each story has its own distinct style, each pushes the formula in different ways.

Con - Possibly detracted from TR:AOD development which would prove fatal for Core Design and TR as we knew it.

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness

Pro - A complex, wonderful storyline, full of potential as a game

Con - The half baked gameplay, the responsiveness.

Tomb Raider: Legend

Pro - The return of Lara's mansion (albeit a different one)

Con - An insult to what TR games are all about

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Pro - St. Francis' Folly

Con - All the rest of it. TR:AE debacle leaves bad taste in the mouth

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Pro - Moments of glory in certain parts of certain levels. Mexico perhaps being the moment my faith was partially restored in TR.

Con - Still not quite as good as it used to be, too similar to the last two games making it feel stale.

Con - didn't have a 'good enough' gameplay.

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness

Pro - AMAZING GAME AND A TRUE EPIC ONE

Con - NO Croft Manor & Given to the WRONG hands (devs. n Producers)

Tomb Raider: Legend

Pro - Amazing Come-Back & Fun Gameplay with GR8 unlockables

Con - Short

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Pro - Amazing improvements of TR1 made it ROCK & gr8 memories.

Con - Adrenaline Dodge is almost impossible to happen without using the Advanced Toggle and they made it the only way to beat bosses.

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Pro - Gr8 Lara Looks, Graphics, Title, Environment & Dialogue

Con - Disappointing Storyline and SHORT LENGTH beside the horrible and disgusting consoles Discrimination for the sake of money, NO Croft Manor, and NON WORTHY UNLOCKABLES.

Fun fun. :)

Tomb Raider
+: Successfully kick-started the Action-Adventure genre of video games
-: Plot could have been more fleshed out

Tomb Raider 2
+: More innovative level design
-: Overemphasis on combat

Tomb Raider 3:
+: Excellent use of sounds and scenery to correctly capture the locale's culture
-: Very difficult, intimidating to both new and old players.

Tomb Raider 4:
+: Continued to use music and setting to create a genuine "mysterious" mood
-: Some levels were too long, some too short, some unnecessary.

Tomb Raider 5:
+: Gave birth to the TRLE, which is still popular almost a decade later.
-: Overall boring and bland atmosphere in most parts, felt like a cash-in.

Tomb Raider 6:
+: Tried to innovate Lara's character and atmosphere.
-: Lacked the polish that most other games on the market had. Glitches out to wazoo, etc.

Tomb Raider 7:
+: More or less got rid of the bad taste in the gaming market's mouth left from the previous couple of installments
-: Too commercialized to appeal to the "hardcore" Tomb Raider fans.

Tomb Raider Anniversary:
+: Further developed the plot of Tomb Raider 1, made it more interesting.
-: Many parts felt repetitive, such as the combat.

Tomb Raider 8:
+: Using characters from both TR1 and TR7, the game felt like the first true "sequel" the series has had.
-: While the plot was good, it lacked polish. Many plot-holes.

*phew* That took forever. But it's good to step back and realize that the series isn't the best thing since sliced bread, it does have flaws. :)

No, i meant that people should just give one negative thing and one positive thing for each game. I know theres not 20.

Why would you want to limit someone's thoughts on the pros and cons of a gameplay. Inevitably some pros can only be explained by using another as an example i.e. outdoor visuals made better by improvement in graphics. So you have outdoor visuals + improvement in graphics.

I just think that of all things you could have complained about when it comes to posts here at TRF and you choose criticise elaboration. I know its a thread you created but I diagree with you being so strict about 1 pro/con per game.

Tomb Raider 10/10
Pro - The most amazing storyline ever. It's what made me fall in love with Natla (who I like more than Lara, herself). :D
Con - Lara has very Limited abilities, but it was the first, so I don't think we can fault it for that. ;)

Tomb Raider II 9.5/10
Pro - Amazing variety of levels. You go from an opera house to the middle of the ocean to a freaking mystical world (with MORE between). :mis:
Con - It depends on the day, but sometimes I get annoyed by the amount of enemies (1,000,000,000).

Tomb Raider III 9/10
Pro - Incredible level design. It's impossible to find a game with designs as awesome as this. :D
Con - Graphics don't matter much to me, but the textures are terribly stretched. Eido$ clearly rushed Core (as usual).

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation 9.5/10
Pro - The puzzle designs have NEVER been better in the series. They truly can be described as epic. :mis:
Con - Not much of a variety on locations. However, for me, that's not a problem. TRL is one of my favorites. :)

Tomb Raider: Chronicles 9/10
Pro - This is more of a gem that people give it credit for. Even though it's short, it has a nice variety to it. :D
Con - As I said earlier, it's short. Too short. It's probably the second shortest title in the series (after TRL). :(

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness 8/10
Pro - The storyline in this tile just can't be beat. Plus, the cutscenes are at the best of the entrie series. It's very underrated.
Con - I'm going to be honest, the controls are abysmal. I've never played another game with such ****ty controls. :hea:

Tomb Raider: Legend 8/10
Pro - I absolutely love the Amanda storyline. She's a great character. Plus, the game has a huge variety of levels. :tmb:
Con - I absolutely hate the Mommy storyline. It's absolutely ridiculous. Also, the game is way too short. Like 2 hours. :p

Tomb Raider: Anniversary 8.5/10
Pro - Natla. Natla. Natla. I was very excited to see miss J come back into the series. Plus, she's was so sexy this time. :cln:
Con - My two favorite levels from the original (The Cistern, Natla's Mines) were absolutely butchered. They were so short! :cen:

Tomb Raider: Underworld 8.5/10
Pro - Must I say it again? I was so excited to see Natla come back. Plus, this installment in the series has an amazing storyline. :mis:
Con - No game in the history of games has as bad of a camera as TRU. It was NEVER cooperative. I want to jump. Lara looks to the sky. :cen:

Estacado
14-03-09, 22:09
Tomb Raider 01:
Pro - A strong female lead.
Con - I can't really pick one as it was the first and set a strong standard

Tomb Raider 02:
Pro(s) - Great introduction and level variety.
Con - I'm not a fan of mythical storylines so I wasn't feel the dragon stuff.

Tomb Raider 03:
Pro - Captilised on what was making Tomb Raider good at the time
Con - The design was bad, I felt the backgrounds looked awful.

Tomb Raider 04:
Pro - Back to the tombs
Con - Lara as a child. Everything done as her could've been told via a cutscene. I cared not for playing as Lara as a child and would even go as far as to say I found it creepy.

Tomb Raider 05:
Pro - Interesting perspective of game play. I liked the non-linear progression
Con - Kiddy Lara again

Tomb Raider 06:
Pro - The music. Truly awe inspiring.
Con - There are many flaws with this game but I'd say no duel pistols. In cut scenes she had them but in game she never had them. Annoyed the hell out of me.

Tomb Raider: Legend
Pro - Fresh start and a welcomed change (to me at least haha)
Con - No actual tombs to explore. I felt a rebirth would've at least had one decent tomb level.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Pro - Seeing the older levels beautifully redone.
Con - Genuinely can't fault the game

Tomb Raider: Underworld
Pro - Stunning graphics
Con - Lack of variety in enemies. Lara had all these weapons and sticky grenades but they were never really needed.

Tomb Raider 2:

:(: The treasure room in Lara's house is useless

Tomb Raider 3:

Tomb Raider 4:

:): First levels are exciting and beautiful.
:(: The rest is dull and boring.

:): Unique locations, fun to replay
:(: Short

Angel Of Darkness:

:): Nice variety of levels
:(: Controls are bad

Legend:

:): Looks nice from trailers
:(: But boring and easy ingame

:): Looks nice form trailers
:(: Boring ingame, stupid and boring story...

This got kinda tl;dr. I hope that's okay.

TR1
Good - Excellent level design, especially the, well, I'm not sure how to describe it. But like, the vertical-ness of St. Francis Folly, the nonlinearity of Palace Midas, the almost symmetry of Tomb of Qualopec, it was very creative, and the way the levels were set up were easy enough for me to wrap my head around, yet not so easy I could breeze through them.
Bad - With the exception of Obelisk of Khamoon, where those cat mummies seriously freaked me out, I didn't find this game to be particularly atmospheric. I rarely felt creeped out, and almost never felt like I was *there*, and I think this had to do with the lack of lighting effects.

TR2
Good - The traps freaking rule. I don't care for traps, (especially when they're timed,) but when traps are good, I love them. And these were great. Most traps managed to kill me once or twice before I got through them, which is perfect. Getting through them on the first time with little effort would be too easy, but traps that take like twenty tries to get through bore me because I get tired of seeing Lara die from that particular trap over and over. TR2's traps were just right.
Bad - Sounds. I cringe every time I hear them. They sound so awkward and fake to me. (When watching TR1 gameplay vids, I noticed the sounds weren't any better there, which made me glad that when I played TR1 the first time on my Windows XP, I couldn't figure out how to get sound. :b)

TR3
Good - Atmosphere. Have I mentioned enough that I like atmosphere? The colors, the lighting, the sounds (the second two of which were vastly improved from the last game) just really draw me in. I feel cold in Antarctica, hot in the desert, lonely in Aldwych, panicked in Area 51...
Bad - Traps. They're too haaaaaaard! Reread what I said traps in my TR2 praise. TR3's are the kind that take twenty tries to get through.

TR4
Good - Puzzles! I like puzzles that are logical, but not necessarily easy. TR4's were like that.
Bad - Too long. I'm not too picky about length, but for me, TR4 was too long to hold my interest, and TRL was too short to satisfy me.

TRC
Good - The bad guys! I love a wide variety of antagonists, with different roles. The comedic relief: Larson and Pierre. The enemy who turns out good: Yarofev. The creepy bad guy: The hanging dude. Awesome!
Bad - Too many non-weapon-having levels. I like a level or two in a game where Lara doesn't have weapons just to spice things up, but this was like half the game! I don't enjoy feeling so vulnerable.

AOD
Good - Music. Woooooow. Here's my opinion- in game music should be non intrusive, and fit the mood of the level. Main theme music should be memorable, elegant, epic without going overboard. TR6? Totally did this. I mean, that music Strahov Fortress is just perfect. So unfriendly.
Bad - I want to see more normal animal baddies. There were just dogs, rats, and bats. Beyond that, all the enemies were humans or humanoids. Then again, most of the levels were urban, like Parisian Ghetto, or fantastical, like Hall of Seasons, so having mostly humans and strange beings like skeletons makes more sense. So, I guess the real problem is that the game needs more levels where real animals would be.

TRL
Good - Combat. I don't care if the AI sucks, I had fun with it. But I would like to draw more attention to the bosses- I loved how there was a different method for killing each boss. Very fun! I mean, I hated going up against the Sea Serpent, but that was just because Lara was so slow. But in concept, it was a cool boss fight.
Bad - Too short. I'm not too picky about length, but for me, TR4 was too long to hold my interest, and TRL was too short to satisfy me.

TRA
Good - Best manor ever! I liked being able to go outside in the TR3 manor, but I also liked how the TRL manor felt like a level (because of all the whatchamathings to collect). So TRA was just great because I could go outside, and it felt like a level.
Bad - Wonky camera that does what it wants at random times + continuous death traps (if I may take that phrase from that other thread) + tooth-grindingly annoying wallruns. I have to include all three of these things because if the game just had one those elements, it would have been fine. If it had two, it would have been mildly irritating. But having to do those crazy wallruns to avoid fast moving traps while the camera moves without my say so is enough to make me send my mouse through my monitor.

TRU
Good - Everything but the camera.
Bad - Camera.

Tomb Raider

まる Game to kick off the series, brilliant level design and gameplay.
ばつ Lack of the braid (due to engine limitations unfortunately :( )

Tomb Raider II

まるMore variety with levels, good gameplay and fantastic ingame model
ばつ Not much, maybe lighting could have been used more

Tomb Raider III

まるVery difficult in comparison to the first two, makes me pull my hair out, also a big change in graphics too (Better obviously)
ばつStarted to become less 'Tomby'

Tomb Raider - The Last Revelation

まるSame as TR3, Difficulty and Graphics improved ALOT more in TR4
ばつThe Level jumping and the variety, Staying in egypt for like 95% of the game became a bit annoying.

Tomb Raider Chronicles

まるLovely level construction, slightly improved engine than TR4 and interesting storylines.
ばつDidnt give us enough insight on what happened after TR4.

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness

まるAMAZING Storyline, VERY Long and difficult
ばつI was left hanging at the end.

Tomb Raider: Legend

まるA positive is that it is a crap game.
ばつA Crap game.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

TR1:
:) Unparalleled atmosphere. It was revolutionary in many ways, but the perfectly done 'me vs. the environment' mood is something that still impresses me to this day.
:( The skateboard kid was - and still is - ridiculous. Totally broke the suspension of disbelief.

TR2:
:) More varied levels.
:( Too many human enemies.

TR3:
:) Very challenging - and thus very satisfying once you've completed the game.
:( The Lara vs. megalomaniac millionaire stories are getting stale.

TR4:
:) Egypt - spells adventure like no other location.
:( Too much backtracking between levels.

TR5:
:) The four chapters all have a very different feel.
:( Incredibly buggy towards the end!

AOD:
:) Great story.
:( Lara is very unresponsive - from super-agile to a tank.

TRL:
:) Very simple to control.
:( The Hollywood-ized characters and storyline are a disgrace to the source material.

TRA:
:) Beautiful level design.
:( Most things that have changed compared to the original have changed for the worse. Lara almost having a nervous breakdown after killing Larson is totally unlike the established character.

TRU:
:) Good balance between Legend's storyline and a more traditional approach to gameplay.
:( Exclusive DLC - meaning most fans don't get to experience important moments in the TRL-TRU story.

TR1

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Vast explorable levels
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Save system on PS1. I used to like it, but now I much prefer save anywhere.

TR2

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Very original final levels, from Temple of Xian onwards.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif There was barely any character interaction with the villain.

TR3

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Some of the biggest, sprawling and complicated levels!
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif The story bored me.

TR4

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif It's Massive!
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif I thought the night/city levels were dull.

TR5

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Seeing more of Lara and Von Croy's back-stories.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif It felt boring and old to me.

TR6

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif It has to be the storyline. It's influenced me a lot.

TR1:
:) - Good ‘all rounder’ with innovative game-play
:( - The blackness that acted as a smokescreen of sorts to farther areas

TR2:

:) - Variety of locations
:( - Too much human combat

TR3:

:) - Choosing location order
:( - Two jungle areas which were overly long and boring

TR4:

:) - Good story
:( - Back tracking was a necessity not always a choice

TR5:

:) - Um, nice idea, I guess
:( - Modern/city levels

TR6:

:) - From what I saw, good story
:( - I never finished, but found the city level monotonous

TR7:

:) – Excellent story development
:( - Too short and linear

TRA:

:) - New take on a classic, with further story development
:( - Tricky manoeuvres that relied on luck rather than skill

TRU:

:) - Excellent levels, a real return to the TR style
:( - Confusing and holey plot (even though I enjoyed parts of it)

TR1:

:) Great level design
:( enemies are easy

TR2:

:) Introduces lots more to the series
:( ...........

TR3:

:) Very big levels
:( First game core was forced to make, and the result made the game less fun.

TR4:

:) Great level design!
:( Set only in egypt

TR5:

:) Nice little extra game before AOD
:( Introduces nothing new to the series

AOD:

:) Brilliant story
:( Was literally about 20% of what was planned when they released it

Legend:

:) Graphics were wonderful!
:( VERY linear

Anniversary:

:) Didnt change too much or too little
:( Why oh why did they throw her parents into there?

Underworld:

:) VERY big levels
:( Short and buggy

TOMB RAIDER I
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Originality, revolutionary game.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif I've never played the whole game, because it wasn't mine.

TOMB RAIDER II
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif So many interesting and diverse areas. My favourite TR.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Too much enemies, no guns in Manor.

TOMB RAIDER III
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Again, amazing new locations. Selection of the areas on the globe.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif A bit difficult. For me at least.

TOMB RAIDER IV
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Egypt.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Loong, backtracking, maybe too much Egypt for one game.

TOMB RAIDER: CHRONICLES
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Story as memories, VCI levels.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif For some reason, I didn't enjoy this game much.

TOMB RAIDER: the ANGEL OF DARKNESS
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Story, Lara herself (I love her attitude).
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Not really good controls, unfinished.

TOMB RAIDER: LEGEND
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif New graphics.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Short, story, Lara doesn't look like a tomb raider much

TOMB RAIDER: ANNIVERSARY
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Puzzles, atmosphere, a lot harder than Legend.
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Sometimes frustrating.

TOMB RAIDER: UNDERWORLD
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif New graphics, Lara looks like a tomb raider again, better attitude (by better I mean closer to AoD :D)
