DVD Videos lagging

A few nights ago I tried to play a DVD movie on my pc, but Windows Media Player said that I didn't have the right DVD decoder. I downloaded the K-Lite Media Codec standard bundle, and it works, but it's lagging and the sound is skipping.

I've got no other open programs other than Windows Media Player and my internet safety software (avast! On-Access Protection and ZoneAlarm). The disc isn't pirated. Thanks in advance. :)

Try using VLC media player, it works the best for me. :wve:

Also, try blowing the disk the rub it around on your thigh, then try watching it again. Don't expect it to 100% if the disk is scratched aswell. Try it on a DVD player also, if you have one.

1. You may have too many processes running - resources taken at that time. Run ARDiag.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/ardiag.exe) and post the report.

2. Turn off your AV protection for the time you're watching the DVD, it may start checking those large files and cause lag.

1. Wrap layers of tissue around the disk, make sure it's heavily layered (coated) so that there are no bits that are visible to the naked eye.

2. Put it into the freezer for 2 minutes (at least)

3. If the disk appears frosty, gently wipe it.

4. Let it cool down (you may want to repeat step. 3 again)

5. Blow then rub on thigh as stated before

6. Try..

Sorry, but how would freezing the disc help?

No idea, but one of my friends suggested it. Also it worked for me when one of my PlayStation games wouldn't work.

1. As you have Avast! installed, disable AV and Spyware protection in Zone Alarm. Having two AV simultaneously running won't bring anything but pain.

2. Check if you have OS Firewall turned off in your ZA settings.

Also, I've disabled ZoneAlarm and Avast, and I'm trying another DVD (Talladega Nights Unrated, 100% legal) and it still lags. I'll try another media player.

From the sounds of it, I'm pretty sure it's the media player. Just like Esconder and I suggested, use VLC. Another thing that popped in my mind is that the drive may be stuffed.

There's a firefox addon that does the same thing. No I don't need it but it's handy to have.

Not scratched or smudged at all, perfectly clean and like brand-new. They both play just fine in my DVD players and game consoles.

That's already selected. I'm trying VLC media player now.

edit: VLC isn't much better; it makes my whole system lag, rather than just the image and video.

i had this exact same problem EscondeR told me i had to many Virtual Drives i got rid of them and it worked fine :D

So if you have any virtual drives like from Daemon Tools or MagicDisk , get rid of them ;)

Well go to "My Computer" and if there are any drives apart from E:\ or
MAYBE im not sure if all computers have one but mine does an F:\ drive but if there are anymore than that , check your applications thats youse Virtual Drives and get rid of them
