Seems like they keep on coming guys. It might happen it might not. Even though it is said that she has denied to play the role of Lara.
Although she is keen to distance herself from sexy roles, it was recently revealed Megan is tipped to be the next Lara Croft in the new 'Tomb Raider' movie.

She's gorgeous, but the Lara role doesn't suit her! (And, yes she's stupid, imo!:D). I think Angelina would be the best Lara Croft. If she denies the role, then I don't want another TR movie... No one is as good as her to play Lara.

I believe that was riding her wave of Transformers fame. She's seen as a hot babe, so has to play to it for some time to stay on top - she wouldn't want to beat down the thing that took her where she is now. "Keen to distance" means she wants to do the so-called 'serious' stuff afterwards, but don't count she's would turn down any 'sexy roles' if they paid her a few millions.

She is sexy, but she can't act, so I don't blame her for riding the wave of her sexuality. However, Lara takes far more than sex appeal to successfully portray, so the farther Megan stays from the role the better. Phew!
I had honestly never heard of her before the Lara rumours.
What good films has she been in? If they are going to give someone unknown the role, why not a good British actress?
If they have to get someone super famous even Keira Knightley will be better than some LA bimbo who can't act or speak British.

Given the fact that the article does not state where they got their information or who revealed this tidbit, I chalk this up as another rumor. It sounds like with the acquisition of Eidos by Square, the movie is on hold until the purchase is completed. Keep in mind that this is just a theory of mine but it seems to fit the facts. As soon as it was announced that Square was making a push towards getting Eidos, we saw a very quick drop in gossip regarding the third movie.

This is how I think of anoyone (Except Angelina) playing Lara,
If we as fans of TR dont want Megan Fox to play Lara the we probably wont see the new movie if she is playing Lara, if no one goes to see it, who ever produces the next TR movie wont make money and it'll be a flop...
I still say CGI for the next TR film,
Megan Fox...beautiful woman, but in my eyes...just isn't Lara;)

You know Megan Fox is very like Angie look-wise IMO. If she doesn't mind fitting in with the skinny actress trend then she should get some muscle building and make a believible Lara.

But honestly I think Megan would bring the movie the publicity it needs, no matter what the fans say there will always be comparisons and at the minute she is a desired young actress. People who aren't fans won't be saying they don't want Megan because the most thing they will be interested in is the Reboot idea IMO and they will thrive to see it and make comparisons to that of Angie.

The only reason I suggested Megan Fakeface was because of the slight resemblance to Angie. That and she could grow with the role (she won't be too old by a third film).

Absolutely.I have lost ANY hope that this will be a good movie.It doesn't really matter what happens next,after I have heard about Megan,I just know it-the movie will be just another hollywood piece of crap.If its true,of course.Because if these people really cared about the movie,they would never ever even considere calling that talentless bimbo just because she is pretty.
The looks are not that important when it comes to Lara.Just give the actresses a backpack,twin pistols,a braid,and a british accent(if she is not from GB) and that about it.Her additude and personality is what matters,and only a really god actresses can portray that.Not just anyone with giant lips.

I hope we get some new information soon you know if there is anyone present on the forums who happen to be Square/Crystal employees or if you yourself Justin happens to know any information it'd be a nice Easter treat for us. It's basically been 3 months of no news surrounding the movie the forums and press would be fueling if we even had a snippet more of information. It's time to interigate Dan Lin!:ton:

And NightWish, what you've said actually makes quite a bit of sense: She-Hulk IS American and girly. However, many non-TR fans would argue that she does look like Lara Croft and might haphazardly piece together an argument that Megan Fox could pull it off and it just might sound convincing. One might have a harder time justifying Megan Fox as She-Hulk, though.

I find the TR films like most action films are just about some good action packed fun and not necessarily award winning performances... So I say as long as the actress can kick some butt and have Lara's attitude and accent down to a tee, and look like her of course, she'll do. That's just my opinion though

For once, I absolutely agree with you! I think Angelina Jolie is ridiculously over-qualified to play a videogame action heroine, though she does have Tomb Raider to thank for more or less catapulting her to sex symbol status. I think that without playing Lara, Angelina Jolie wouldn't be as much of an A-lister and consequently not so much in the public eye. I think the most important thing the first TR film did for Ange was kickstart her mission to save the world as an earth mother adopting one orphan at a time-she came across the orphanage in Cambodia while shooting Tomb Raider and thus adopted Maddox.
Your criteria for who should play Lara is pretty much spot on-in fact, that's everything a Lara actress should have- and just about everything Megan Fox doesn't. It seems as if we're a bunch of Megan Fox haters here, but personally I think she's really sexy if not a little plastic. I just find the notion that she can play Lara absurd and insulting to true TR fans.

^^ I actually prefer the 1st movie to the second, I didn't mention anything in my post about being inclined the other way around. The second movie suffered from director Jan de Bont's insatiable quest for over-the-top perfection, a pretty lame storyline (I'll admit the first movie's plot wasn't all that ingenious either, but at least it was more exciting) and looked like an excuse for Lara and a new random boyfriend to jump aimlessly across continents. Also, I didn't buy the visual effects, not for one bit. The shark that Lara punched as well as Jonathan Reiss melting were painfully unrealistic for me.
also in teh 2nd movie lara dont look much liek lara - pony tail (this damn ponytail that later on ctystal edecided it was a good idea)a nd lack the things lara ususally warc - no shorts and tops . she mainly wore clothes she randomly found

I actually really liked Angelina Jolie in the role. I won't go so far as to say she is Lara Croft, but she put a lot of effort into the role and came off sufficiently like Classic Lara to me. I don't think Megan Fox can do the same. As for an animated TR film, I'm not so sure. video-game based animated films have a history of doing poorly both critically and commercially, such as Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Resident Evil: Degeneration. I definitely wouldn't mind a Tomb Raider animated TV series though. Tomb Raider mythology is full of good stories that would last seasons!

Honestly, Lara is supposed to be classy and sophisticated, and Megan Fox couldn't possibly be any farther from that than she already is. She may have a pretty exterior, but the more she shows her personality, the more unsightly she becomes. Plain and simple, she's not classy, elegant, or lady like, she's just another hollywood skank, and surprisingly much worse than most.
I think Keira Kingtley is gorgeous, and no doubt about it, she carries herself with class and elegance, yet still can be tough. That's what we need for Lara. :)
Though, preferably, I'd prefer a completely new actress that no one knows much about. It'll provide more mystery to the role as well. :D

The only thing I think she would need to work on is getting some muscle on her and go about getting a believable British accent. She has a very *****y and fierce (not model-ish fierce but like dangerous fierce lmao) look to her which is what most Lara fans seem to want. (with all the anti-Legend Lara rants that are always posted).
I don't think people should hate on the idea until we actually have something to go off of. (Video of her dressed as Lara auditioning?) After seeing Girl Interrupted I could never see Angie playing Lara but look how nicely she filled Lara's boots in the films.

I don't get the whole aversion to Megan Fox. I don't really know that much about her, but I've seen her interviewed a few times, and she seems quite nice. Down to earth even. I think she's quite beautiful and undoubtedly sexy, but she also has a naturally sultry look about her. That doesn't attribute her to being a skank though. Nor do her tattoos. Don't forget it's the media has thrust her forward as a sex symbol ever since Transformers.

Regarding Lara, I could see her in the role. She's a pretty good fit physically. I don't think she'll be winning an Oscar any time soon, but she's decent enough to pull off the 'classy' side as well as the 'action hero' side. I'm not convinced she could do the accent well enough, but you never know. I've certainly heard far worse alternatives being suggested.
Keira Knightley mentioned earlier, is also beautiful, and indeed has more inherent class. I have a couple of problems with her in the role though. First of all she's far too fragile - she'd need to put a fair bit of muscle on, or she'd look completely out of her depth. Secondly, I've never really bought her 'tough' act. In the Pirates trilogy, her hard edge often came off as too churlish. She got closer with Domino, but I was never really convinced.. it all seemed a bit forced. Then.. not to be crass, but there's the matter of her breasts. Beautiful though she is, she's fairly modestly endowed, to say the least. Personally I couldn't care less how big or small Lara is portrayed in the chest department, but let's face it - it's important to a lot of people, and is a notorious aspect of her public image. I imagine that the filmmakers would want to pad the hell out of her if she took the role.

Not really. A lot of people here are Angelina worshippers, and so are instantly biased towards any other actress rumored to be playing Lara, particularly one who is more attractive than Angelina. They don't even realise that Fox has already turned down the role, despite it being stated many times.
Like all actresses, especially those starting out, Fox is capitalising on her looks to make her way in the film industry. When she's more established she will be able to be more choosy about how she is portrayed, but for now, 'you gotta do what you gotta do'.

I think fuzzycroft has a good point. For the record, I think it's time Angelina pass the torch, as much as I admired her performance in the past two films. I'm all for other actresses taking up the mantle of Lara and I have nothing against Megan Fox herself. However, along with many others, I just feel that she is definitely not right for the Lara Croft role. I was not convinced by any of the "acting" I've seen her put in, in any film at all. She's sexy, I'll give you that, but seems to be overmarketed as such. I'm not comfortable with actresses "selling" themselves the way Megan Fox seems to have done so. A tasteful nude scene in a film or an occassional glamour shot doesn't hurt, but it seems like not a day passes where a new, "sexy", Megan Fox shoot pops up. She's far from my favourite actress but I think she's hot. Still, all this "forced sensuality" turns me off. I understand why some might think she's a fit, in terms of physical appearance at least, for Lara Croft. However, I think it takes a lot more than looks to pull off a convincing Lara. She's as multi-layered and complex as most video game characters get and possesses many contrasting aspects of her personality. That, and the accent. I'm not convinced Megan can do it and I'm glad she's turned the role down, period.

The comparison with Angelina is superficial. Beyond similar colourings and sultry eyes (which she was born with by the way), it seems to come down to the tattoos. They both have a lot, okay. I sincerely doubt Angelina had anything to do with her decision to get them. It would be pretty messed up to go to those lengths to mimic someone's look. Your comment about the photoshoots she's done doesn't hold water. Countless other actresses and celebrities have done equally or more revealing/sexually suggestive shoots. Even Angie. Are they all trash? You might even say there's some class to be found in the self-confidence it clearly shows. Yeah, I know what you're saying, and you may well be right. Like I said though, I don't know that much about her beyond a few interviews I've seen where she seemed quite nice. I'm not going to pass judgement on a second-hand quote with absolutely no context, regardless of how some people take it. Yeah, well no arguments there. Angelina is obviously leagues above Megan in an acting sense. She's completely in touch with all of her emotions, and has proved herself in numerous and varied roles. That said, I wouldn't call Megan a bad actress. What little I've seen her in, she's done okay, even if the characters weren't particularly challenging or demanding. But she's young and inexperienced.. she may well surprise us all one day.

For the record, Angelina can't either. Her British accent was horrible in the films. She sounded great as Lara, but it was not British. I think it sounded better, maybe because it missed that last touch of a true British person.

I wouldn't mind her being Lara because who's to say she can't pull it off? We haven't really seen her acting chops in anything other than some Lohan Disney flick and Transformers, so i don't mind that. I can't help, though, if i don't like who she seems to be as a person, I'm sorry. That has nothing to do with jealousy, either.. she just doesn't seem very classy to me, is all.
I do think she goes way too far with putting herself out there and making herself out to be this larger than life walking sexual fantasy.
Recently, there was some backlash against Megan after she said in a magazine interview that she'd once fallen in love with a female stripper, and it turned out that Megan completely lied about that just to get a reaction and seemed a little weird and childish on her part. I have no issue with bisexuality, but why pretend to be someone you aren't? I don't have as much problem with her pictures as you think.. she just comes off in a way that rubs me wrong.

I think the whole misunderstanding is to do with how people have different perspectives and expectations of what Lara should look like. On the one hand you have the "teenage boy/male fantasy" type Lara where all you see are her huge boobs and her teeny tiny shorts. And on the other hand, you have a multi-layered character that is confident, sassy and has a mature ballsy kickass attitude that just so happens to be sexy. :D A person might deduce from interviews with Toby Gard, that the latter is what he actually meant for the character to be, not some pornstar who happens to know how to handle a gun and looks good saving the world in shorts. (As I'm sure all TR fans know by now) ;) I remember him being quoted as saying "I only wish that when they took her out of my hands, that they didn't make her boobs so big". My point being that she wasn't MEANT to be a sex symbol, but happened to become that because of her confidence and her athletic body. I think the reason they considered Megan (or Angelina for that matter) is to portray the "male fantasy" type Lara. Which I find kind of sad, because we TR fans all know there's so much more to this character than just good looks and double D bra size. I KNOW they can do so much more with this character than was previously portayed in the films.
Anyway, I think it would maybe be best if they did a stunning CGI movie. Maybe that would keep everyone happy, since it would be the "real" Lara, and not someone pretending to be her. It would also tie in quite nicely with the game franchise. :tmb:

Regarding your point about being a sex symbol, it's irrelevant whether or not she was originally meant to be one. She is, and always has been ever since she burst onto the scene in the nineties. It's naive to think otherwise. From the first game, her waist was skinnier than her head, her breasts took up half her torso and she wore the tiniest of shorts. Clearly her character and appeal goes far beyond that - as you say, the confident, sassy, kickass attitude is just as big a part of what makes Lara. Take those physical characteristics away though, and I guarantee her iconic status would be nowhere near what it is today. There may not even have been a Tomb Raider 2.
Now being all that as it is, coupled with the fact that Hollywood is Hollywood, of course they're going to cast someone who is attractive - even a sex symbol. Angelina and Megan both are, thanks to the media, but neither is the DD bimbo that you seem to be implying. I don't think there's anything wrong with casting a sex symbol, so long as they can bring out all the aspects of the character beyond just the physical traits. That all comes down to acting skills. I think you misunderstood: There's nothing wrong with casting a sex symbol as the leading lady, all I was trying to say is that it should not be solely based on the looks. It wouldn't be very fair to the audience if you got a gorgeous actress to play the part, but the whole movie is riding on the fact that she looks good on screen and not much else. But that's the way things are going in Hollywood these days :p
And about Lara being a sex symbol: what I was trying to explain is that it sort of just happened. She didn't pose on every boulder she found in a sexy compromising position, or pouted her lips in a provocative way when she saw a tiger and mumble something about it being "a cute fuzzy wuzzy tiger" :D She wasn't TRYING to be sexy, like you can see some models or actresses TRYING to be sexy, she is just naturally Lara... and people find that sexy.

I totally agree, especially with your point regarding the public's perception of Fox. I remember reading that a lot of fans were upset in the casting of Jolie as Lara for the first movie...and it's not hard to imagine why. She was so wild back then prior to TR. She was kinda goth, she had all those crazy tattoos, she kept vials of blood around her neck, she Frenched her brother, she went out with and married Billy Bob, and she played some weird roles. After doing TR, her career and life pretty much did a 180. She's now one of the most admired, successful, and famous celebrities ever. Who's to say playing Lara won't have the same or similar impact on Megan?
Megan is perfectly qualified to play Lara from a physical point of view. As for her acting, I didn't think there's anything wrong with her performance in Transformers. Who knows, maybe TR could be her breakthrough performance acting-wise (lol I know it's unlikely, but it's still a possibility)?

Saw Star Trek over the w/e at IMax (AWESOME LOVED IT) but it showed the new Transformers 2 trailer, and i hate to say but urgh, aside from it being transformers (grew up on) and being in egypt (gotta go back loved the place) the film looks totally meh and the `introduction` sequence for megan fox makes her look such a trollop :( talk about sexing up something that simply didnt need to be :(
