what the title saysTo give the game a sudden blast to open it. Gotta admit, it is kinda effective, having that great explosion in your face and then going to the start of story in the calm Med Sea. I think it's far more effective than if it just opened with you on Lara's boat. The prologue just catapults you straight into the action.
ya...so you are like omg I am gunna play underworld and then POW!! right in your freaken face her house is on fire and then once you think you are getting answers BAM!! dropped in the med sea:)
awsome opening I must say:)

But the repeat of the Manor level kinda got tiring..I was like 'Huh, haven't I done this?'. :pi:
It could start with the Med. level anyway. That way it can build up the story slowly with a welcoming opening of the calm sea .. gradually building up the story to climax and conclusion.

Like most have already said to build up the story. However I would have liked them to change it a bit when we returned for the Croft Manor level. They did that twice [repeat the same level] The ship Level+Burning Manor.

It's a literary device called en media res, "in the midst of things". As many have pointed out, its purpose is to grab the reader/viewer and hurl him into action at the beginning.

What they said. :D
To make those who were not informed of the plot, a sense of
WTF????!!!!
:D
It was something different, to build up the hype, I suppose.

At the end of the Prologue, it made you want to play on and so the prologue repeats itself in one of the levels.

The shot they leave it on makes you think think Zip may betray or even have shot Lara (the closeup with him and a gun, sudden white screen). Then it cuts to a cutscene where Lara talks to Zip normally. So you are thinking 'what does go on between then that makes him shoot at her'
What is a prolouge? Is it some pro french river group?

It was a great start, I dont have a problem with that. I DO have a problem with the repeats. (boat and manor)

Or better yet, that Lara would be blowing Zip's brains out for shooting at her... <sigh> wishful thinking. :D
it's ment to train the new comers in some way.with climbing, grapple ect.thats how i see it and i think it was mentioned somewhere too :)
To grab the player and fling them straight into the action.
