View Full Version : The idea of using Thor in TRU came from TR1?
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but inform me if it was.
In TR1 St. Francis Folly there were 4 rooms, correct? (The one where you get the keys) Poseidon, Damocles, Atlas, and Thor.
The room with the hammer and the lightning bolt thing was named THOR.
But how come in TR Anniversary the room of Thor was replaced with Hephaestus??? (It became Poseidon, Damocles, Atlas, then Hephaestus???)
Does this mean that they (Crystal Dynamics) removed the name Thor in TR Anniversary and replaced it with Hephaestus so that they would use Thor and his hammer in TR:U?
they removed it because thor wasn't a part of greek mythology, he was part of norse mythology. I think it was said somewhere that they made a mistake with that in TR1

Same here. I had no idea CD changed it. But Thor was a Norse god so I guess they had to change it :o

It was not in Anniversary.
Hephaestus was there instead. ;)

I thought it was pretty much a known fact to everybody that both Thor and Neptune were changed to correct the mistakes Core made while putting the wrong Gods instead of the Greek ones :p

When you unlock the commentary in TRA, you learn by Toby Gard himself that they chose the wrong gods when they made TR1, we had Atlas and Damoclès, who are references to greek mythology, Neptune who is the Roman god of sea, and Thor, the Norse god of thunder.
So in TRA they changed those names to have only greek references, this is why Neptune the Roman god of sea was replaced by the Greek one, Poseidon. And Thor was replaced by the blacksmith who makes Zeus' lightning bolts, Hephaestus.
And coliseums weren't only Roman constructions, there were coliseums made by the Greeks. So in TRA everything is greek, no mistake ;)
And the idea of Thor in TRU desn't come from TR1. It's juste thet when they made the hammer room in TR1, they thought about the most famous hammer in history : Thor's hammer, so they called the room "Thor", but Hephaestus also uses a hammer to make Zeus' lightning bolts (the electric thing at the entrance of the room refers to those bolts), so the room still has a name that fits :)

They replaced it because Thor dosen't really appear in Greek Myth. At Least thats what i heard.

Ok I get it now. Thanks :)
After the mess CD did relating Shiva, Kali, King Arthur, Thor, Mayan culture, Avalon and Atlantis as a monomyth, misplacing Thor and Neptune in Greece sounds like a mere detail.

There's a huge difference between connecting those myths intentionally and messing them up because of lack of basic knowledge.
