Don´t worry, it happens every once in a while :)

As the message says, just try later, it has happened to me several times. The first time I experienced this, I fell in desperation, I restarted my computer millions of times, plugged and unplugged my modem and lots of things...

The only thing I had to do was... wait :p

you could try unistalling msn completely off your comp, then going to the website and get the updated one, that could work, also, make sure you havent got any programs running such as; BitTorrent, Utorrent, or basically any downloading programme, as that interferes with msn service and slows down connection speed, hope i helped :)

1. Update MSN messenger to the latest version.
2. Go to Start > Run, type cmd and press Enter. At command window execute the following:
cd \ [Enter]
cd %appdata%\microsoft [Enter]
cd "msn messenger" [Enter]
del /s listcache.dat [Enter]

3. Delete MSN cache
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\ Your Windows logon name \Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address
C:\Documents and Settings\ Your Windows logon name \Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\ Your Messenger email address

Windows Vista:
C:\Users\ Your Windows logon name \Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address
C:\Users\ Your Windows logon name \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address

4. Ensure date/time is set correctly on your PC. Syncronize with any of the time servers on the net.

5. If you have AVG:

Open the AVG User Interface.
Double-click on the Web Shield component.
Switch on the Instant Messaging tab.
Uncheck the Instant Messaging protection option.
Confirm changes by clicking the Save Changes button.

As simple as that:

1. Quit MSN messenger.
2. Go to Start menu > Run, type "cmd" w/o quotes and press Enter. New window appeares. You mus enter the following lines there each one followed by pressing Enter:
cd \
cd %appdata%\microsoft
cd "msn messenger"
del /s listcache.dat

Try the following:

- Double click on the clock in the taskbar and make sure the system clock is set correctly.

- Register softpub.dll using the regsvr32.exe tool:

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type "regsvr32 softpub.dll" w/o quotes and then click OK.
Do the same for the following "regsvr32 wintrust.dll", "regsvr32 initpki.dll", "regsvr32 MSXML3.dll".
Restart Windows Live Messenger.

What antivirus/antispyware and firewall solutions do you have installed?

The above didn't work.

I'm using AVG 8.5 Free, I do have Ad-aware installed also, not sure about the firewall.

Add WLM to AVG Exclusions list. BTW, do you use the latest WLM version?

not sure about the firewall.
Run ARDiag.exe (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/ardiag.exe) and post the report.

How do I add it to the list, and I should think so I haven't had an update alerts.

Copy the following text and paste it to your report AS IS!!!

Right click AVG icon in system tray and choose Settings (Properties), Exclusions list.

Try shutting down AVG completely and run WLM then to check if AVG is indeed the source of the issue.

Possible reasons:

1. You haven't entered credentials correctly.

2. The account was hacked/password was changed.

I made a brand new account and I can sign in now :S

So why can't I sign in with old one? Though it doesn't really matter now, just curious.

It always seemed to me that different systems on the Windows Live networked accounted for different accounts, so in this case the server which would have your account was not reachable. Not sure if this is true though. Now that your new account works, does the old one still not work?

The reasons EscondeR just mentioned would get you a different error message, namely one saying that your account either does not exist or you entered your password wrong.
