View Full Version : my story
I've been writing a story for a while now and when I was ready to start working on the script the news of the new movie that might be a reboot come out and now I have a problem...
My story was written as a third piece of a trilogy. I had along the new adventure a flashback short of what happens to Alex West and some other connections with the first two films as well as the Crystal games. Now I don't really know how to write it. It is easy for me to change some of the story but my problem is should I write is as a sequel to Underworld? (It is easy for me because I have Lara in the beginning been in a dark place that could be explained because she lost her friend and short of meaning in her searches) but should I use Hilary and Bryce or Zip and Winstone? I had actually Hilary been Winstone's son (And Winstone been dead) I also included Kosa from the second movie as there is a lot of Egypt in my story!!!
I've been doing research for the past 5 years. reading about myths from around the world, differend religions, books of architecture and mysticisms, Philosophy, and Phycology. Also I travelled to some of the places I want her to go and took pictures of the museums and ancient buildings. I travelled to Egypt, Prague, London and around Greece (I am from Greece so it is easier for me) I've read Ancient myths and Legends and talked with some friends who study archeology. I even designed some of the temples and the outfits for Lara and the rest of the characters.
PLZ let me know. how should i write it?

Wow, you've sure put a lot of work into this:)
Do you want to combine elements from the films and games?
If so the connection between Winston and Hillary is good, to make it even you could use Zip. I think you should stick with your original idea of continuing the trilogy as you seem to have links from the films.
But its your story;)
Hmm, tricky. You have a lot of plot elements available to you from both the films and the games (both versions of them). There's actually a danger of including too much; of trying to tie every last idea into one chucky whole. It's fantastic that you've done your research, but then again you might actually have too much material and become spoilt for choice! (that's the beauty of being able to write trilogies and extended sagas... :D)
Perhaps if you picked out your favourite elements - plot points and characters etc from each genre of TR - and keep your work centered on them? It's great that you have ambition, but a story doesn't have to be enormously knotty to be good :)
I wrote a tutorial for TR fanfiction a while ago that you might find helpful, here (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=93506).
You will get more suggestions with this over in Fan Art :wve: Moving you there now. Good luck!
thank you both!
Actually my plan is to make it part of a trilogy but my story is a two part story it self. I was hoping for smt semilar to the matrix movies or kill bill. If it went to became one single movie it would end up to be longer than 250 minutes... And because I have planned everything as a two part movie the ups and downs woulnd't really work in one film.
So you both say I should keep characters like Alex West, Terry Sheridan etc? I can really keep them all and keep the mother element but I don't know what to do with Zip... I cant keep Hilary and take Bryce out...
It is really good I promise!
BUT I don't have any zombies or mummies or monsters whatsoever... well maybe one monster per movie but not what you think.
I actually keep reading books about Tibet at the moment as part of the second movie takes place there. Hopefully I will get the script ready before the end of the summer and I will see from then on what I will do.

In that case are you keeping Hillary and Bryce?
I do think you should keep Alex West and Terry Sheridan, are you sort of following the characters on?
because I started the story back in 2004 I thought at the time that I had to explore Alex West as a character (in the novel edition of the movie he is shown a lot more and I always liked Daniel Craig) and I've written a flash back scene (very important for the plot) that tells us where Alex is...
Since We've NO idea whatsoever about the movie planned for 1012. Whether it will eventually be a reboot or a threequel or a prequel (I believe they wait to see if Angelina wants to do it) So I am writting this script as a fan first. Hopefully I will be able to send it to the producers and they will like it and make it a movie. So I can keep the characters I want (as I am writting it for me) but I wanted to include some elements from the games because the company may not want an absolute continuition from the first films but from the game (even if Angie is on) and because Crystal tried to connect the games to the movies I thought I'd follow. I can change Alex's character into a new Lara's friend (although he only appears in the flashback scene)
Personally, I don't like TR fanfics which are continuations of the movies, and to a certain extent, continuations of the games. All the research you've done has got me very interested to see how your story comes out, though.

Please don't take this the wrong way but you should drop any hope of getting the script picked up by producers, even if they did read unsolicited scripts they wouldn't even consider a fan script for an existing franchise. Even if the miraculous did happen and they picked up your script on a slow day and loved it so much they wanted to use it for the new film it would go though so many other writers and conference meetings that chances are you wouldn't even recognise it by the end anyway.
If I were you I would write the story for yourself, not for any hope of making money and forming a career from it (the career can come from original work you produce after honing your talents in the fan fiction side of things). I recommend forming your own continuity separate from the games and movies but based upon both, this will lead to more interesting stories and give you more creative freedom.
You have obviously spent a lot of time researching and planning the script, have you put as much time into studying the art of plotting the script its self? What do you think are the themes of your story? Have you thought about what makes your characters unique yet believable? What sort of arc do your characters go though? Does you plot follow the 3 act structure common with movie scripts?
If you want to send any notes, ideas or plot overviews to me for constructive criticism then PM me and I'll send you my Email. Of course it's always a good idea to get opinions from more than one person.
I'm intrigued! I'll see what I can come up with during the day.
EDIT: *In the evening* Ok. I kinda have to agree that your chances of getting money, or recognizing the script later are slim.
But, It's a good Idea. I like it alot.
I've never tried this though, so it might not be the best advice in the world.
Remember that it needs lots of description, and it needs the actions well described.
Try not to make it rather cliche. Oh, and be the most creative you can be. I'm being repetitive, I know, but after seeing soooo many repeated storylines, I think the world needs more creativity and originality.
