We know it exists. Simon West said it himself on empire magazine. He mentioned that it includes alternate takes and extended scenes. I've read the novel edition of the film and I know that it had a great story but it was lost in editing. I would so love to have an extended cut of that film. So many bad films that did poorly in box office have been released as DC i can't understand paramount. I know that they were in bad terms with Simon But personally i think he did great job. Much better than the second film. I wish one day we will get to see an 120 minutes cut of the movie with most plot holes been filled. The first trailer of the film is like full of deleted scenes from the movie. half of the trailer is scenes that do not appear on the film.which is pitty since it is still the Highest Grossing movie based on a Video Game and Highest Grossing movie with a female action heroine. I want a special edition of that.

I know it is kind of a pointless topic since we can't find the extended edition unless we break in Simon's house and maybe not even then... but is smt I wanted to say for quite a long time now. I loved the films and I think that they could have done so much better on Box office were they released some other time. I mean the scrimmage on the Blockbusters in the summer of 2003 has never been before. They were so many. the studios are not doing that anymore. they give eachother one week space at least. but back then (and only in 2003-2004) it was chaotic! they shouldn't squeeze it in there.

Spy kids, Pirates of the caribbean, Hulk, bad boys 2, charlie's angels 2, Terminator 3, finding nemo, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Legally Blonde 2. all these were released along with Tomb Raider 2 within a month.

I would love to see an extended cut. :tmb: The deleted scenes found on the DVD are great, and I'm sure there are more. I love seeing that old guy get killed. So brutal and meriless. As Tomb Raider should be. :D

Do you know where I can find that first trailer? I'd love to see it. And I'd love to see a DC as well. I didn't all this, so thanks for posting!

in youtube. if you know the movie the way i do you will see more than 20 scenes that are not on the film.

the very first scene after the producer's logo at 00:11 is a scene probably from Siberia that does not appear on film.

at 00:57 scenes with a triangles on PC. those are part of a missing part of the story were all the locations were triangles on the maps. there were many like that one.

01:27 Powell looking through a telescope. this is again part of a storyline that follwed powell in his search (As the above I know from the novel edition of the book and from the magazine)

01:43 there is the scene with Powell killing the old man a.k.a. Mister Wilson

and those were only from the teaser trailer that runs about 1:50 minutes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcztTbwJkYA&feature=PlayList&p=7BA04706433720EE&index=11

from the full trailer now

00:03 these scene from Venice is not in the movie
00:11 I believe that this take is an alternate take as if I remember corectly the shot is straight to his face.

00:18 the triangle is not shown in that part of the movie in that scene.
00:25 again scenes from the alignment on PC. those did not appear on the movie.
00:31 again Powell on a telescope
00:34 Lara in her father's office. this scene is probably extended from what we already got.
00:36 again the triangle shapes on PC
00:42 that scene does not exist on the movie. It is probably alternate take on the last tomb.
00:57 scenes on the boat cars. these one does not exist on the final movie.
01:10 that scene does not appear on the final film but it was probably shot for the trailer as Lara doesn't go back in time like that in the movie or perhaps it is smt we dont know about...
01:12 Lara in her cannon This scene doesn't appear on the final movie.
01:46 this scene is part of an extended scene that took part in the Temple. Lara is walking with the monks and alone around the temple. you can see her filming that on the extras of the dvd (as many other scenes not on film)
02:00 this is from an extended battle scene from the second tomb.

there are also a bath scene in Cambodia (we can see the filming of it in the extras of the dvd) extended dialogue with Alex West here and there. and probably lots of scenes parts of which are the cuts I am talking about above.

The 1st TR movie is far from being a box office failure if that was what you meant.

SMR, where did you get this info with the times? Do you have a link?

Hmm... maybe around the time the reboot is released, they could release a Director's Cut to start some buzz. The movies aren't good, but for some reason I just can't get enough of them, and I'd gladly buy a new DVD.

Probably written by SMR - just look at the trailer to see yourself, it's on youtube.

And the extended cut is definately nowhere in Simon's house, by now it's in Paramount's archives. Pretty much every movie has a rough/primary/workprint cut, which end up in the cupboard in the end.

If you look at the trailer on youtube check the seconds I've written. these are the scenes that did not appear on film.

Also I am not so sure about it been at Paramounts archives because this is what Simon had said:

http://www.empireonline.com/News/story.asp?nid=13073

I can't find the exact link but it is somewhere on empireonline.com and he says that he edited himself (unlike the original release) and were i a director I would hold a copy of my edition of my films at home...

I dont think it will release.

I highly doubt he literally meant that - you need a powerful workstation to edit movies and they're usually at studios or movie editing companies. I know singers and performers tend to build their own recording studios in their houses, but director don't really get themselves full-fledged editing rooms at home, since it's too expensive and useless, when you only have time to do like 2 movies a year.

Everything that's filmed, all the footage is always a property of the film studio, Paramount in this case, so they usually retrieve everything and keep it to themselves. I admit there's chance he did keep something extra with him, maybe a rough cut or a workprint, but he can't legally release it to the world... so yeah, you'd either have to break in or at least ask him.

And how is the DVD version different from the theatrical version? I thought they're identical?

I think I have an extended edition... Im not completely sure because its not infront of me, but I recall it having a banner across the top saying "extended version"

I can put it in the PC and get deleted scenes and other extra's that are pretty cool actually.

Yeah, I remember I was really confused by Simon West's claim that the DVD of Tomb Raider was to feature an alternate cut yet the version I saw on DVD was identical to what I saw in theaters. Of course, later I realized that I misunderstood what he was saying.

"'I think so, I've done the DVD version already and there's extra stuff in that, but not a Director's cut."

I always took that to mean that it was an alternate cut but he refused to label it as a director's cut (some directors don't like to do that). I didn't realize he just meant that there'd be deleted scenes.

Despite great casting for the supporting roles, I found the first film to be a total bore. I had a much better time with the second film and it still holds up reasonably well today. Heck, I even liked Angelina Jolie as Lara in the second film whereas I hated her (and still do) in the first.
