View Full Version : A game like Tomb Raider?
While waiting for the next release of Lara, is there any games out there for the PC that is anything like Tomb Raider in its game play?
If you know of any or have played any, please let me have your suggestions with a few comments on the games' merits (or not).
Thanks.
Hmm... Well it depends on what consoles you have as there are damned exclusives *cough* Uncharted... that are similar to Tomb Raider.
Sorry, I saw you said PC.
Well I pretty much only like TR and I found Mirrors Edge, Assassins Creed to be enjoyable and a little like Tomb Raider.
Then there's the obvious Prince of Persia, which is a lot like Tomb Raider (I recommend Sands of Time if you haven't played one before).
If you have an Xbox you could also give the old Galleon a try, it's by Core and is a really awesome game! It's a bit like Tomb Raider in platforming and really gave me a headache over some of the puzzles. It's definently worth a try... if you have an Xbox :pi:.

I believe Beyond Good and Evil (http://beyondgoodevil.com/uk/intro.php) is available for the PC. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I just played through this. It's a pretty lazy port (eg. the interface and controls are a bit on the shoddy side, and you can't re-map them), but the game is fantastic. I wouldn't really liken it to Tomb Raider much though, apart from the 'adventure' side.
I second the recommendation for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time trilogy. It's more action-heavy, but there's similar platforming and some environmental puzzles.

Indiana Jones any one? How can you forget the inspiration for the TR franchise :P
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
LucasArts (PC and N64)
Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
Core Design (PC, Mac, PS2 and Xbox)
Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings
A2M/Amaze (Wii, PS2, DS and PSP)
Other Action/Adventure games:
Shadow Man
Acclaim (N64, PS, DC and PC)
Shadow Man: 2econd Coming
Acclaim (PS2)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Nintendo (N64)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Nintendo (NGC and Wii)
And of course the classic and well known Pitfall games (also inspired by Indiana Jones)
Pitfall!, the 1982 original
Pitfall II: Lost Caverns, a 1984 sequel
Super Pitfall, a 1987 sequel and a quasi-remake of Pitfall II
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, a 1994 sequel
Pitfall 3D: Beyond the Jungle, a 1998 sequel
Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, a 2004 sequel
Jungle Hunt and the classic Prince of Persia and Zelda games.

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
Core Design (PC, Mac, PS2 and Xbox)
I didn't know that was made by Core:eek::p
I'm going to third Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It is probably Ubisoft Montreal's best work.
Barbie the one where she raids tombs i saw it in asda a few years back but you could get it online some where im sure :p

It was only designed by them, The Collective are the ones who developed it.:wve:

I would say Twilight Princess has a good amount of explorations and puzzles that had me stumped for a couple hours, if not days.
And Mirror's Edge is somewhat reminiscent of Tomb Raider for the interactive platforming alone but that is about it.
I would also recommend Primal(PS2) for a game that heavily focuses on exploration, puzzle solving, environmental puzzles, and combat. It doesn't necessarily cover platforming however.

I agree, only OOT have better puzzles. Heck, OOT is better:) But i love TP too of course. Most people critisize this game because of the low difficulty and the lack of innovation (TP did exactly the same as OOT did in '98). But i think that TP is the second best Zelda game. Majora and Wind Waker are masterpieces too:)

I am quite interested in Playing OOT. I've heard nothing but good things of it. Thats the reason I only mentioned TP since it was my first Zelda game and it blew me away.
Hmm.. for PC? Sorry, don't know any.
PS3, 360 or Wii might have some though. Uncharted's the best you're gonna get.:)
Project Eden (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=99594&highlight=project+eden)
Core Design title that came out for PC and PS2 back in 2001. This was done by the same team that created TR2 (and it really shows in the quality of the game). Think of a futuristic version of TR with the ability to control and switch between 4 team members at any time in the game. It has loads of exploration and puzzle solving.
IGN gave the PC version a 9 out of 10 in their review (rightfully so). Very highly recommended!

It was made by Confounding Factor actually. Toby Gard and Paul Douglas (both ex-Core Design) were involved in the project though. Awesome game. Took me forever to finish the floating islands type level.:p

Yeah, Galleon is the game Toby left Lara for. He says it's because they were sexing up Lara too much, but I just think he thinks it sounds better to say you had principles than a failed game. :ton:
Thanks all you gamers for thoses suggestions, i'll take note of them all. Have now started woth POP Sands of Time. Thanks again.
"The Fifth Element : Movie Game" is much like Tomb Raider. It's not a perfect game though - still fun of course.
