I have no faith in this film whatsoever, and I'm fairly certain they're going to catastrophically alter Lara's past and saddle her with something incompatable with both biographies, which will adversely affect the next games as well. And that the movie will be both a critical failure and a box office flop.

I don't think so I feel people will be flocking to see it just to see how the new Lara actress portrays the roll.:)

"Great origin story", "more realistic", "much younger Lara"...I am having less and less faith in this film by the second. Usually, when they say "more realisitc", filmmakers and producers today actually mean "more like the Dark Knight" - and trust me, Mr Lin, I don't think that formula fits the Tomb Raider franchise. Right now, we'll just hold our breath for the casting, and I'll wait till then before I completely write off this next movie.
so how much younger are they talking?
Thanks for posting :)
Im glad that the news about the movie is getting out a bit more.
I assume when they say a younger Lara, it will probably be aged from 19 to mid 20's. I wouldn't go any younger, as It would seem stupid seeing a young-young Lara running around with guns.
so they are difinitely making the movie?
Yes, unless it gets cancelled in the future.

Well I'm looking forward to it, it may be good or it may be bad but it's Tomb Raider. Plus, it's only opinions that marr a movie these days.
Read an article on Kotaku sometime ago....meh.:p
I will lol if they ignore the Legend/movie biography and create a new one.:vlol:
Anyway,we'll see if it's good or bad,but I'm not too happy about the whole young Lara thing. xD
I. DONT. WANT. A. TEENAGE. LARA.
UGH! I want a new adventure, not looking back into her past. I want mummies and such, not how she grew up. :S

Me neither. And I hope this does not involve more family drama and ****.

I'm not too fond of the idea of going into detail on Lara's origin. She should be a mysterious character, in my opinion. Having said that, I loved Batman Begins, which is an origin story about someone who is considered by many to be a mysterious character.
this movie will be much stronger then the last ones story wise,I mean they could go for the original backstory or the CD or make a new one:)
either way, there will be lots of awsome scenes that test lara's will and strength:)

I was wondering today, which bio are they going to use?
hey,:)
so the hostess says that Angie possibly might do some "Benjamin Button-
type action", meaning making her younger. interesting. almost sounds like
making Angie look like her younger photos (of course, she kind of looks
the same albeit 20 years younger.) so, I guess we'll see what happens.
should be entertaining though.;)

I think from the about.com interview Dan didn't really want to rule out Angelina for the role unless he wanted to avoid the subject :)

I hope that this one will be much better then those crappy and cheesy movies with Angelina Jolie. But i think that it wouldn't be as good as the Indiana Jones movies. Unless Spielberg will direct Tomb Raider.

OK wait . . . they are officially making a new TR movie now?
:vlol: Where have I been?
I'm not too sure about an origins thing. The Tomb Raider movie series isn't like the X-men movies. I'm not really sure if people care enough about Lara's character (in the movies) to want to see where she came from.

Well thankyou although the chances seem slim I must say but if Angelina wants to get out of movies it'd be a hell of an end to her career because I think Lara was the "real" start of it for her also:)

Angelina Jolie had already starred in about 17 movies and won numerous awards for movies like Gia, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0123865/) and Girl, Interrupted (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0172493/) as well as other films she did before Tomb Raider. And her career is hardly going to end soon either just because she is no longer involved with Tomb Raider. Angelina has already been ruled out of contention by the producer who clearly said being an origin story a younger actress would get the part.

I really don't care who plays Lara. As long as the actress sort of looks like her. And I hope the movie will be really good.

Ah! I'm excited already :p:D
so will lara be a teenager?
When they said younger Lara, they showed the video of Lara as age 9 in Legend.
I was like "What the--She's gonna be 9?!" Then Megan Fox showed and I calmed down and said "What the--She's gonna be played by her?!"
:p
Maybe they'll go for the age of Anniversary Lara, mid to late 20's. It would be better that way.
Of course I'm excited & very curious about a new TR film.:D However, I just hope being more realistic doesn't mean hardly no action or any fantasy themes at all!:( A new film which is more character driven would be good, but Lara equals action & exploration & TR equals fantastical & action! An action film with fantasy elements can still be great if it has a strong story, script & cast etc... I just hope they don't go too realistic to the point were it is boring.

Lara is normally in her late 20's, she does not get any older than that, her TRA adventure was her early 20's the movie will be an origin story so before TRA (or it could conceivably be the search for the scion). Lara is orphaned at 15 so it could be anywhere between then and TRA, or they could just move the plane crash up to Lara's teenage years and get rid of both parents at the same time, and start with Lara's adventures in the Himalayas.
in a way,CD made anniversary into an origin story, maybe they will make something with that...
but most likely lara as a teenager:)
