Problem With Desktop Picture

I changed my desktop picture and logged off. When I logged on again I just got a plain coloured screen. I've tried several times since to put up a picture but it just won't work: it shows me in the window that the picture has been put up on the desktop but it hasn't.:confused: I've never had this problem before. Has anyone else had this and got any idea how to sort it?

Disclosing what operating system you're using would certainly help expedite the process of helping you.

Windows XP, but it's ok it's working now.:) Well, for the time being, until it decides to throw another wobbly.:rolleyes:
