I need to think up a name for a metal band but I'm so un-creative I can't think of anything. :p Any ideas?

Apostasy. ;)

I almost started a band with that name. I do recommend looking it up first, though.

Does Apostasy have a meaning or is it just a random word? :p

"formal religious disaffiliation or abandonment or renunciation of one's religion, especially if the motive is deemed unworthy. In a technical sense, as used sometimes by sociologists without the pejorative connotations of the word, the term refers to renunciation and criticism of, or opposition to, one's former religion. One who commits apostasy is an apostate, or one who apostatizes. The word derives from Greek αποστασία (apostasia), meaning a defection or revolt, from απο, apo, "away, apart", στασις, stasis, "stand", "standing".

"A Metal Band". It's simple, to the point, and people won't mistake your for something else.

Plus it's creative because people will try to think of something creative and it'll sound odd and yours is that simple it's that creative people will kick themselves for not thinking of it :D.

Hell, just use the original Greek word: apostasia

Encore
02-06-09, 17:22
But, the question is, why would you choose apostasy as a name for a band if it isn't even something you yourself have been through or even understand? Why not choose something related to the subjects and themes of your band's lyrics?

violentblossom

^Thus my recommendation that she look it up. You and i cannot say that she has not gone through it.

This is actually a car game for my family. Going through the alphabet, you have to name a metal band. And no one but Dennis knows many, so we make them up. It's quite entertaining. :D

Actually, there is. Two different words, completely different meanings.

If I had a band I'd name it Atropos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atropos), but I bet it already exists. :vlol:

Choose your name carefully, as there are so many cliched, stupid, and completely inappropriate names for metal bands out there. I think it's idiotic, for example, to form a black metal band with a name taken from Lord of the Rings, especially if the band's reason for being is bash Christianity. You might as well name your band "Alsan", "Jadis" or "Caer Parivell" while you're at it.

And some names are just redundant. Necrodeath, anyone?

Here a few I like, for my imaginary metal band, which is power/thrash/black/death metal, and has lyrical themes revolving around dinosaurs, fantasy, science fiction, and religion:

Antedelluvian
Tatzelwurm
Moribund Earth
Anastasis Necron
Nuckelavee
Behold the Man
Rule of Three
Cordillerion
Carnosaur
Sauroposeidon
Uncouth Angel

I don't know if any of these have been used already. They could have.

I think type of metal makes a difference for the name.

It could since it often it's related to the themes in the songs.

So what type of metal? Thrash? Gothic? Black? What?

What themes do you want to approach lirically? Long lost love? (:p) Politics? The very obvious death and destruction? Victorian horror? Literature references?

There's a world of stuff but it often can come down to the image you're trying to convey. And it should be something personal I belive... not something that we could just point out to you.

With that said, Zombie Nazis R In Ur Lawnz, Eating Ur Brainz is a very nice name :D
